Can you tell me how to grease the lower unit?

By the way, when you put the drive shaft back in the lower unit, use a screw driver to center the locking ring in the opening to the lower unit. Then when you place the drive shaft in it, keep downward pressure while lightly tapping the lower unit with a hammer. This will help the drive shaft to seat properly. :-)

I have the 58 Evinrude 3hp. It looks just like the Johnson here. I tried to inspect the impeller but the lower didn't separate like your video. I was concerned about prying it apart. What should I try next?

Did you ever figure it out?, I have the same problem now. My lower unit won't separate.

Mark Silva , I made sure there wasn’t a paint seal around the bolts then went through all my wrenches to find the tightest fit. I was lucky the bolts came loose.

What does the "straw" do exactly? Where does it lead to?

It sends water from the water pump impeller up to the power head and exhaust port to cool them.

I have a 67 Evinrude 3hp FOLDER motor. I am replacing the impeller too? My problem is getting the splined drive shaft to engage into the lower unit. This motor is in excellent condition so the shaft and lower unit are not damaged. Any suggestions on how to get the shaft in place?
PS : I copied the plywood lower unit holder on your video, works great. Thanks Ken

Have you tried spinning the prop while wiggling the shaft into place?
