Don’t take a shot every time I say Bitossi in this episode or you’ll be hungover for a week 🤣🤣🤣 But I’ll give a virtual high five to anyone who can guess correctly how many times I say BITOSSI! 😂🥳
The brass lamp is an exciting find. It is not actually an incense holder. It is a diya or ghee lamp and is used in worship of God. A wick made of cotton and soaked in ghee (clarified butter) is placed in each of the receptacles, lit and offered to God as part of worship or puja. There is a handle at the back of the lamp so it can be held and moved around gently in a clockwise direction. Ghee lamps radiate the most beautiful pure golden light. They beautifully illuminate the form of God that is being worshipped. The golden color is similar to the sun at sunrise. Some Ayurvedic practitioners recommend gently gazing at the light to bring the color gold into the body via the eyes. It’s a beautiful lamp and looks nicely made. Best wishes 😊🙏
thanks for the explanation - I knew that it was for something like that, but I didn't know the details. I had seen these lamps at Hindu ceremonies and Diwali but didn't know exactly how they're used.
@@leftcoastrevivals It’s my pleasure ☺️ It’s nice to know what things are used for. I saw you pick a simpler one up but not purchase it in one of your videos a few months ago. This one is a beauty..
We think your Bitossi display looks excellent! Varied in color, texture and size - a beautiful display and a great wrap-up of where and how you thrifted them.
I am so happy for you, Laura! You look beyond radiantly happy to have found that lovely Bitosi vase. You are my thrifting heroine, Laura, and I live through you vicariously!
I watched your channel at work ( on break😉) got done with work walked into my local thrift store and found a bitossi $5.00 must have been a sign. I couldn't believe, 😂
Love your coatrack idea for purses and tote bags. I can't imagine an image in the clocks with all of that intricate artwork. I guess some black and whites photos could work nicely and you can even cut them to fit on top of the glass without disturbing the clock. But I think the clock itself is so charming and sweet to admire even if it doesn't work. It brings the attention to the framework and artistry. Laura, you find the most beautiful and interesting treasure. It's always a pleasure watching your videos.
I was literally heart pounding with you when you said Bitossi because we all know your affection for it. The thrift Gods definitely sent you the bat signal on this trip.
Such an amazing haul! I think that dog statue was from the 1980s during the Miami Vice Art Deco revival. (I refer to it as Miami Vice because it was popular when the show was a hit and featured some of Miami's great Art Deco styling in pastel colors.) The greyhound statues were a big deal during that era. You might remember the massive one from the Friends TV show.
My favorite gentle rust remover is Never Dull Wadding Polish. It is oily saturated batting packed in a can, rub rub rub to lift oxidation and rust. Keep turning to fresh side and Using fresh pieces as needed. I have also had success putting rusted item in ziploc bag, spraying it down with WD-40, and leaving that sit for days. Then working on it a while, scrubbing with balls of foil and fresh super fine steel wool. then putting fresh WD 40 on it and giving it more bag time, days more. Repeat as needed...to be gentle, it takes patience and re-visiting. Like you are the Dr and the item is the patient, best results are from being careful and going in stages. If you want to really poke and scrape at a rust spot, use a wooden tool like a toothpick ( be prepared to go through lots of them) or a bamboo skewer, or a plastic or nylon clay sculpting tool. Do not poke or scrape with a metal tool, that will lead to nasty scratches on the metal item. You may want to put an old towel or tshirt rag in the sink when washing metal to keep from scratching or marking the sink ❤
This summer I went to a favorite church thrift. Between 2 trips I bought 7 TINY Victorian gold rings for $7.50. Volunteers over looked them, I think, because they looked like oxidized copper, though I knew better. Toothpaste and elbow grease revealed the gold. At same shop I bought a pin for $2.00. It looked like pewter but on the back was 925, Danmark and the artist's signature. Plan to consign the pin next year. Had two of the gold rings made into pierced earrings, at a jewelery shop down the street from the church thrift.
Vase is by Fratelli Fanciullacci …They are MY favorite ❣️. I have 3 of the Sgrafitto vases and som other things. I do find Bitossi fairly often thrifting her in Denmark

Please leave the clocks as they are - they are so beautiful and unique! I love some many of the things you found today. I can't make up my mind which I like the best. The Hollywood Glam lamps are FAB-u-lous. The greyhound or whippet is breathtaking! I think it's original to the thirties. I don't believe a reproduction could be so perfectly formed. The clocks are amazing! The style and color are superb. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Congratulations.
My husband and rescue mostly Pitbul mixes but we have been discussing adopting a greyhound as well. Are they as chill and easy as most people say? Are they mostly dog friendly?
Clocks are parquetry. Marquetry is organic design inlay while parquetry is geometric, like parquet floors being geometric designs. What wonderful Bitossi collection. I have a nice Italian pottery collection as well. On that candelabra where you left some rust, I'd spray it with a clear lacquer to darken the rust and seal it. I do that and it works wonderfully because it preserves the patina and adds character.
So the best cleaner you can get especially for metals is 30% white vinegar. You dilute it a little bit in the water and then you let it soak the item and you will get all of the tarnish and rust off in about 24 hours! Don't ever forget about baking soda and white vinegar which is what you can do all of your cleaning, laundry, everything with those completely safe items that don't damage any of your washing machines or the environment or you.
