- I began making this quilt for Christmas 2023 for my Brother while he was away on a cruise holiday and to celebrate his love of Hawaiian shirts. 7 months I managed to finish it in time for his July birthday.
I shared the making of it in 3 previous videos. This final video is part 4, please go back to view fabric selection, how to sew the flying geese, the backing and my pattern.
All blue fabric is 100% cotton recycled from garments purchased in charity shops.

What a beautiful use of shirt fabrics! The way you secured the rolled sides of the quilt while quilting on your machine is much easier than how I was advised before, so that’s a great tip from your video, thanks!
@kateh4030 Thanks, some of those Hawaiian shirts can be so ugly. I managed to find the story in the ones I chose.
I join my wadding pieces by butting them up together and using a zig zag stitch.
A-dorable!!!
Thanks!
Great job on the quilt Maggie!
Best use of Hawaiian shirts! I've never been a fan of them so seeing them used towards something that looks that good is a definite improvement from them exisitng as shirts.
Keep up the good work!
Franky (Yes, THAT Franky) 👋
@@FlowState.Racing Thanks. Which Franky?
Hi,just found your wonderful video .Thank you so much for giving so much detail I currently follow a lady in the USA called the catbird who also makes quilts from Men’s shirt ,so glad to find someone in the UK . You have a new subscriber.
@@regina-mae1901 Thanks and welcome. I hope you enjoy my back catalogue and lots more in the future.
Yes I follow and subscribe to Cathy of Catbird Quilts too. Love her.
The quilt looks beautiful and you have done very well given the difficulties that you have. I came across a fantastic tip on how to join batting on TH-cam. The channel is called Conquering Mount Scrapmore with Brenda. It comes in very useful if you don't have a machine with a zigzag stitch option. I now use this option for joining my batting.
Thanks, I'll take a look. What an interesting name for a TH-cam channel.
