    I have been beyond upset since I saw this trailer for the first time... and the trailer only scratches the surface of what goes on in these "conversion camps". I think it is about time that Hollywood shines a light on what parents and some churches do to these kids. This is going to be a tough film to watch, but oh so important. They have some big names for this film so I'm sure it will get a wide release. It should be noted that our Vice President, Mike Pence advocates "conversion therapy". This is what we are up against here in the USA. Thanks for making this reaction video ! EDITED: I noticed you said something about "what the LGBTQ Community has been put through in the past".... This is still going on TODAY in the USA and other parts of the world, so it is very current.

    I'm a Background Artist and I am in the trailer at the beginning during the Church scene. I was like 10 feet from Russell Crowe. I am sitting on the left side in a Purple shirt

    I know people who have been through conversion camps and been scarred. Especially the part where they tell him to hate his dad and hitting the boy (I flinch everytime by that!) - just ... *shiver of horror*. Although I'd love to see your trailer reaction for 'Disobedience' with Rachel McAdams.

    It'll be good to see a not so great feeling movie because we all have to remember that some of our lgbt kin go through these types of situations where horrible things go down.

    I saw the movie at TIFF and the man who’s story it is and his mother were there. It’s was very interesting to hear that even though it’s been years the family is in exactly the same situation they end the film in.

    Loved the caffine-inspired start to this video (as I sit here drinking my own coffee :) Great reaction video to what should be a great film and story worth telling. Whilst will be sad in parts no doubt, I think the film will be full of hope as snippets of the trailer showed i.e. from the mother and the main characters friend played by Troye Sivan. I loved how when the trailer started the music used was from one of my favourite Troye Sivan songs - 'The Good Side'. A beautiful song! In regards to this film, loving the strong Australian input i.e. Joel Edgerton, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and of course, Troye :) Jackie - you've now given me another book to purchase! I'm still waiting for my online purchases of Aristolte & Dante, Openly Straight and Will Grayson to arrive. Thanks again for uploading another clip as I always learn something new. Peace out from Australia 👍😊

      Hey thanks dude! Coffee is a huge part of my life I can't help but get cinematic while I make it. Omg I didn't even make the connection about them all being Aussies! Holy Jesus I just finished reading Honestly Ben (The sequel to Openly Straight) a few nights ago and it made me WEEP. Those two books I think may have stolen my top spot for LGBT book!

    Great reaction video, but don't hate Crowe. 23 years ago he plays a gay son looking for "Mr Right" in the movie 'Sum of Us' while his father is looking for "Ms Right"!
    Also heaps of praise to Troye Sivan and others for such an emotional song!!

    There was another movie called "Prayers for Bobby" (2009) which was based on a book and also a true story. They are both similar in that they dealt with their son's coming out and how their religious parents/families handled the situation. Sometimes it takes movies like this to show the rest of society the difficulties of growing up gay and why we need to come out. Looking forward to your review of the book and movie. Cheers!

      I've watch so many times prayers for Bobby and always make me cry, the part at the parade and when the mom hold a child, the coming out of Bobby and so many things about this film moves me so much... another one that actually is on the same mood, is call me by your name or those people, also later days... shelter is a great film, there was another one, very old one but I couldn't find it and as a teenager never put much attention so to remember the name, only keep in mind that is about a group of friend from different countries, one of them has aids

    I have literally put off watching this trailer for months. It was a little easier going through it with you, so to speak. I only had the idea suggested to me, one time, way back when, but thankfully, nothing ever came of it. I don't want to see this movie, but I know I ultimately will. I hate the subject matter for a multitude of reasons (at least the fact that it [still] happens in real life if that makes sense). As for the religious aspect, although I am now happily an atheist, there are things that are drilled into us as children that never really leave us, at least in my case. I don't think I'll ever be truly free, there's still a lot of anger (mostly at the church). Anyway, please forgive me for getting off topic. I appreciate the honesty in your reaction and very much look forward to hearing what you have to say after the film comes out. Wishing you all the best. Cheers.

    There was no need for you to even say a word. When the trailor was over and you turned and looked into the camera... that expression on your face and in your eyes said EVERYTHING you were thinking and feeling. Not a word came out of you for a bit, and that was aa good thing. So painfully heartbreaking.

    Little known interview with Garrard Conley (who wrote the book Boy Erased about his own life) posted on my blog post. He's said he followed the production of the movie every step of the way to ensure it's authenticy, in reply to some controversy about using a straight actor (Lucas Hedges) for the main character. A predominantly Australian caste (actually Russell Crowe is from New Zealand like me) this is the first acting role Troye Sivan has been in. lifewithhiv-peter.blogspot.com/2018/07/boy-erased-movie-true-story-garrard.html

    • @JackieRossLavender
      @JackieRossLavender  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peter hiv I cannot abide this “straight actors can’t play gay roles” thing. That’s like saying gay actors can’t play straight roles.
      That’s good to hear he made sure to ensure the production is authentic. I’m quite looking forward to watching this movie. It’s going to be a rollercoaster of emotion.

    • @gumbopie
      @gumbopie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to be so late getting to this, but "Boy Erased" is NOT Troye's first acting role. That was in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" when he was about 13. He played the young Wolverine, and he got to sprout bone claws from his knuckles. (This is on TH-cam. Search "Wolverine Troye Sivan Scene.") He played a small part as a bully in an Australian film. And he played the title role in the "Spud" series, three South African movies about a boys' school in South Africa. Then Troye went into music full time, until he read the script for "Boy Erased," auditioned, and got the part. So this IS his first role as an adult actor. But not his first role.

    WOW.....You hear about Conversion Therapy, but the idea of actually watching what someone went through. Christians would actually want their son/daughter to go thru this, then possibly consider suicide, that to live a more honest life as LGBTQI. It's sad what parents believe is important. Maybe they should be sent to Humanity Conversion Therapy.
