      IF...IF... they do this right and it gets the level of content and playerbase the Dune universe deserves, then its gonna absolutely smash it!

    I'm very keen on this. On recent re-reads I'm less a fan of the books. Their plots are stupid and rushed. But the world building is great, which has always been the best part of Dune. And I love the twist that Lady Jessica produced a female heir, which is the most consequential event of the saga, so it makes sense to change things there.
    I'm more concerned that this is by Funcom, which imo squandered the Conan survival game.

    • @KenetorTV
      @KenetorTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ive heard both haters and praisers of funcom with the conan game, so its hard to tell without playing it myself, but if it were really so bad it should have worse reviews on steam and it doesnt.
      Add to that any dev can make both good and bad games, we will have to judge it based on itself

      @@KenetorTV it's not bad as such. I'd say it's undercooked. Not rising to its full potential.

    The alternative timeline idea is interesting. It seems like a good place to make the fork, too. The Bene Gesserit will only consider it a minor setback though!
    Weekly map resets by sandstorm? That's not a bad in-universe premise.
    My remaining concern is this will be another "every in-universe person is a player" game. Which makes a good pitch, but in every game I've tried it in, it limits the scope you can get to. But maybe that's just because Dune 2 defined RTS for me, so I can't imagine gameplay on Arrakis any other way.

    • @KenetorTV
      @KenetorTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      for a group that works over the timeframes the Bene Gesserit do, certainly they can wait.
      The resets will certainly work, keeps things fresh like games such as Rust (which has had a LONG lifespan) and crucially it can keep the server infrastructure more simple, and provide an eas way to add new content, as any storm can add brand new content into the standard rotation of POI's, the fact Unreal Engine has specialised in mixing generated content with set pieces in recent years really makes this work and the sheer size of the zone will also contribute.
      Dune has a long history of RTS as i mentioned in the video, but this limits in the things you can do and can see, Dune is so very lore heavy, and seeing even a slice of it in person, to walk among it will be a really great way to explore it.
      Im not a hardcore fan by a long mile, but i do appreciate what has been crafted in Dune and it can deliver so much content for players, but will it be enough in combination with the gameplay, we will see, i know many a player that couldnt care less and will just see it as another competitive game. so fingers crossed!

      yeah the record for good and bad Dunes games is a little shoddy, but they are doing everything by the book and true to the established lore (outside of the alternate timeline part of course) and i think that sets them up really well. they just need to nail the gameplay which as always is the hard part, it certainly has good bones though which is more than you can say about some upcoming or older MMO's!

    Look's great.
    But so did Pax Dei.

    • @KenetorTV
      @KenetorTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      i mean i would disagree on pax dei, it looked mostly ok, but buggy lighting and animation and thats before we get to gameplay, didnt pull me in at all, overall looked very bland despite the good artwork.
      But I do indeed agree, a good looking game does make a good game, each game must stand on its own merits and not looks alone.
      I just wish I had some sort of beta knowledge, even second hand on how well things are going just to have a basis of confidence, without it all we have is hope.

    Hate to say it but if the world is full pvp it won't last long as zerg clans will rise and wipe everyone out it has happened to many games that use the same kinda setup with pvp

    • @KenetorTV
      @KenetorTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      alas i am well aware but it works for Rust, I dont see why it wont work here too, we will have to wait and see, there will also be NPC and environmental challenges too, im interested to see how they will balance it out, but also dont under estimate the size of the deep desert zone, we 100% still need more info to properly judge, but im still excited for it!

    • @flamingmojo9575
      @flamingmojo9575 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You'd be glad to hear the world isn't full PvP - it's entirely optional :) There's multiple maps, the "Survival" map, Hagga Basin, is mostly PvE (some small pvp areas) and the Deep Desert (for more late game content/ high-risk-high-reward) is open pvp. Still, not full loot PvP like Rust as base raiding isn't a focus of the gameplay loop and impossible in the pve areas

    I played one of the old Dune RTS games years ago, I like the world and units. Could never make it through the movie, way to much boring staring into the distance and whispered talking between anything interesting happening. I'm going to be waiting a few months after release to even consider this one, looks like another game with a lot of "potential" promising everything and showing very little, and delivering even less.

    • @KenetorTV
