@Russell E Simonetta, I get what you're saying. Since this is an experiment, the level of feedback will be an interesting result. At the moment, there is still a lot of material in the areas where the pickups and bridge will reside. The body is 1/2" thinner as well. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this extreme mass removal will impact things. I have a 335 clone and honestly, it isn't acoustic, it's just weight relieved. So, I'm looking for something a step further down the line.... of course this is not a 335, not the same body shape, not the same overall mass to start with.... Just havin fun. Hope you are enjoying the series so far.
Not to be rude, but you understand that hallow bodies are extremely prone to feedback right? Do you also understand why a solid center block is left in semihallow’s? I’m also puzzled as to why you even use a kit if your making all those mods.
@Michael Justice, Good points and yep I'm aware of all those things. A center block is part of the recipe to control feedback, and there are many ways to control or use feedback, but that's not really what I'm concerned with on this project. Why not use a kit for some experiments like this? I find myself testing ideas on kits or pawnshop guitars, rather than building from scratch only to find an issue. This way, I can decide if ideas are realistic and worth replicating, or improving on. Everything I do seems to either be a repair or a prototype, I find the process fun and challenging. Later in this series, I'm trying new ways to apply veneer, different ways to reshape a headstock... a lot of "what if" and "oh crap" kinda processes. Hope you are enjoying the series, even if you don't understand why this is all happening.
Thanks for watching! I think leaving the spine was my original plan. Then I forgot what the plan was, and the train ran off the rails. Fun project, hope you are enjoying the project series. Take care!
Use of ABM wrap around these are German made machine from a solid brass Billet. Tonepros is junk it's made from cast zinc which is the absolute worst metal for tone. Use tailpiece locking studs from Philadelphia luthier tools these are dirt cheap and they are American made from American Steel best design rocking studs I have seen on the market. The absolute best guitar bridges on Earth Bar None hands down are those made by Halon guitar parts from Greece there's nothing else even close to these. These are made from Superior tone metals nobody else is making parts from these metals because they're much more expensive and the wax tools faster so nobody wants to fool with it. Harris the owner of Halon guitar parts is only concerned with the tone and not the cost of a metal. Halon parts are superior. Check out the video on the Halon vintage Strat trem from Tony McKenzie I contacted him and told me about these and he said the same thing I'm telling you now there's nothing else like him on the market. Highest quality metals giving you the best possible tone 1060 cold rolled annealed steel 7075 aircraft aluminum or Ms 58 brass. Halon also has Saddles made from the same three Metals as well as stainless steel and beryllium copper and the Holy Grail phosphor bronze you cannot and will not find these type of metals anywhere else made by any other manufacturer. Halon is the only one using these costly metals and all of their parts are machined from solid metal billets of these metals as well as their saddles. Absolutely no cast Parts whatsoever. Halon is working on making a wraparound Bridge and may have one by the time you finished this guitar but I don't think they have one as of now. You would not believe what a difference the type of metal makes concerning your Bridge night and day and the Saddles are total game-changer you would not believe what a difference the Saddles themselves make. If I were going through all the trouble that you're going through to remake this kit into something nice the last thing I would do is junking up with cast zinc to me that's defeating the purpose. God Bless You and Your Family!Jimmy in NC....
@James Reaves - WOW! Now that's a comment! I'll have to read through it a couple more times. I really don't know how the TP compares to the ABM, will have to look into that. I may have some Phili locking studs in my "bin of stuff", I get a lot of bits and pieces from PLS. While what you are suggesting may be spot on... I'll likely use the TP wrap around on this project, as it needs a home, and this $90 kit needs a bridge. Perhaps it will be a sacrifice of tone, but time and money are running out on this project. I'll start some research on Halon and your other offerings, perhaps for one of the Next Project(s) !!! Hope you are enjoying the series. Thanks for all the content, take care!
@@theNextProject I'm sorry for such a long-winded comment but I really didn't know how to explain it in a way that would make sense without going into detail someone what I'm saying is that zinc especially cast metal of any kind but zinc is a really lousy metal producing a good tone the metals that Halon uses are specifically selected for their tone and if you go to the website Halon guitar parts.com they have sound samples and everything if you contact Harris tell him that Jimmy in NC sent you. I installed the Halon to numatic on my brother-in-law's guitar he has a Les Paul studio now he has been playing for more than 50 years because he's 70 years old and he owned a bunch of vintage Gibson and still own some vintage guitars back when they were just the guitar of that day they weren't worth anything other than they were just what was currently out now they're worth a fortune and he said he had no never going to be worth this much one day he would have probably kept them but he traded up for something else you know how musicians do and never really thought about it. he tells me that since I've installed the two nematic from hail on his Les Paul studio is the best sounding Liz ball he's ever heard and he's wore the Frets out in about a year and a half or two years since I installed it because he's played it every single day for hours on end he said it made that much of a difference. the guitar came from the factory with lousy fretwork so I did a level crown and polish on it for them and while I was doing it I installed the Halon Bridge and a set of locking tuners. I used the kluson revolution locking tuners because they look exactly like the Vintage 2 hole square box type tuners they have the exact same foot as the original Factory tuners so there's zero modifications with these but they're actually a sealed die castast tuner a modern-style tuner. These are really nice tuners and they fit exactly where the vintage style tuners fit. The guitar is bone stock except for the kluson Revolution locking tuners and the Halon Bridge. I used the 1060 cold rolled annealed steel with 1060 steel saddles. my brother-in-law Craig says this Les Paul is the best sounding he's ever played and has sustain for days. there's no other changes on the guitar besides the A-line bridge and the tuners in addition to the sustain the overall tone has improved 100%. you would have to hear what a night and day difference this bridge has made on this guitar to believe it it sounds too good to be true but it's not. I get nothing from telling you this it's just that when you find something this good you want to share it with as many people as you can and there is nobody else making Bridges from the type of metals that Halon uses. I spoke with Harris about a month ago and they are working on wraparound Bridge has that's the next Bridge they're going to make but they don't have them or they didn't then they may now. T is like 99% of the stuff on the market they're made from cheap cast zinc. Everybody is so concerned with tonewood I do not understand why nobody even considers the type of metal and electric guitars bridge is made out of because the bridge and the pickups influence the tone more than anything else on the guitar far more than the type of wood that's made from. All Halon Guitar Parts are machined from Solid Metal Billets of "Superior Tone Metals" Nobody is using the Superior High Quality Tone Metals Halon is using. Currently ABM is the only company Machining Wraparounds from Solid Brass Billets. Halon will have Wraparounds Machined from 7075 Aircraft Aluminium, MS58 Brass & 1060 Cold Rolled Steel before too much longer if they don't have them already. If You order a Halon Jaguar or Telecaster Bridge, Stratocaster Tremolo Unit or TuneOmatic tell Harris Jimmy in NC sent You. God Bless Jimmy in NC....
@James Reaves No worries about long comments. The info you are sharing is constructive and even if I can't apply it to this project, perhaps i can on the next one. I was so impressed with the tools and the parts that I have become friends with Harris as pen pals over the internet and we talk back and forth fairly often he has even invited me to come and stay at his home in Greece he is a very good guy straight up and honest and as I said I get nothing from mentioning any of these things it's just that when you find something that's this good you want to share it with others. I mentioned before that I recommended these parts to Tony McKenzie when he was doing a really high end Strat build using a solid Walnut body which is really nice. Tony posted a video about this and mentioned that I had told him about these in the video he also contacted me and said they were the finest Parts he never seen that they were Head and Shoulders above everything else on the market which is what I told him when I mentioned it. Tony said he couldn't believe what a difference the Saddles made Harris sent him three or four different sets of saddles maybe 5 I'm not sure and he said when you change out the Saddles you get a different sound altogether in a good way each one has its own tone that's why Harris makes different metals because he says there is no best tone there is your tone so he searches around until he finds the best of each type of metal the best brass the best aluminum the best steel. I forgot to mention that he also makes titanium parts in addition to the metals I previously mentioned. his titanium is grade 5 titanium most others use grade 2 which is a lower grade. I'm telling you the same thing they are Head and Shoulders above anything else you'll find anywhere there's just nobody else out there making Parts out of these Superior tone metals. originally I was looking for a notched straight edge and I saw that GMI luthier makes the only one that's 5 millimeters thick which is thick enough to stand up on its own allowing you two free hands to adjust your truss rod while you're straight edge is standing up between the strings that's what drew me to them in the first place. It really amazes me that everybody is so concerned with tonewood when an electric guitars tone is primarily from the bridge and the pickups and of course the strings as well. Unplugged you can hear the type of wood maybe but once you have it plugged in and cranked up you're not even hearing that or very little of that. Nobody is concerned with the Tone of the Bridge which comes from the type of Metal the Bridge is made of. Halon is the only company Machining parts from "Superior Tone Metals" I am really surprised that in all years of them making solid body electric guitars nobody has caught on or even considered the tone of the metal they're using to make their Bridge from, especially since this has the single most influence on the overall Tone of an Electric Guitar.
