Man that’s unfortunate this roster had Rip Hamilton as a UFA. They traded Stackhouse for him, he was 24yo and put up like 20 a game. He was RFA, signed him for 7yrs/64.x million dollars. He was obv a monster part of the team, especially on the championship run. Put up 21.5/4.6/4.2/1.2 in 04 playoffs. 40+ MPG, 45% FG, 85% FT on 6att, and actually shot 38.5% 3P on like 1.7att. I wonder how good he would’ve been in the modern era. They had him running off screens to take mad 16-20 footers lol. I mean he shot 39% from the corner in DET. He also got to the line a ton for someone who wasn’t going to the rim much at ALL. .303 FTr in DET in reg season & .335 FTr in DET in playoffs. For a high mark as a non big, Trae Young’s FTr is .412. For a cpl guys that are close to what Rip was, Ant 9th in FTA this season, w/ career high .325 FTr. Brunson was 9th this yr in FTA. .302 FTr this yr, he was at .328 last yr. DAL he was obv way lower. Over 56, almost 60% of Rip’s FGA in his career were long 2s or at least 10+ feet out, but a lot of years were legit 60%+ just like 12+ foot 2s. You have to wonder if it was like 65% 3s and layups with maybe 25% middies and 10% floaters how it would’ve looked. Obviously he would’ve been practicing 3s, not having coaches run floppy for a 19 footer but an actual 3, more C&S 3PA especially from the corner, attacking closeouts, etc. with his midrange game being just part of his bag instead of the vast majority of his shots. Went on a tangent here lol but man if Rip was drafted in even 2012 instead of retiring in 2012, as good as he was, he could’ve been insane. I have no doubt he could’ve been a 38%+ 3P shooter on like 6att, got to the line even more, and just would’ve been insanely efficient. Anyway again sorry for the tangent, I paused the video so maybe you’ll get Rip back 😂. Looking forward to hopefully more content clique!
