  • This time we explore the options of the lego boost color & distance sensor 88007 a bit further. We use it to program our project (let it be a train or an animal) to react to plates with different colors. At the end, there are a few tips on how to program a line follower. I will give a solution for that in the next part.

I have been searching for some tutorials to use 88007 for quite some time now. I am glad i landed on your channel. I am really bad with programming or codes but i'm really fond of trains and models. I am building my own Lego city and would appreciate if you could put a simple video of sensor slowing down and accelerating and stopping at different colors. I would really appreciate if you could help me wit this.

Thanks for the question. I will add "video on acceleration and deacceleration" to the list :)

Thanks for tutorials. I am trying to create more advanced Technic models with Powered Up elements and App, but this is not so easy as I was expecting. Currently I am struggling with distance sensor. I want to mechanism and program which react closing to distance sensor and other side. Let's assume that when I am decreasing distanse from 10 to 5 then I want to turn motor for 1 second or defined distance like steering motor. I want to make same reversed, so back to previous position for motor when distance sensor detects getting far (value grows from 5 to 10). Would be possible to create something like that with Lego Powered Up and Distance sensor?

I assume that you'll use the color and distance sensor and not the distance sensor from mindstorms spike?
If yes: you can simply wait until distance is below 6 and then wait until distance is above 9

Thanks for your tutorial. It was helpful for my train automation projects. Do you know of any option where we can play custom sounds upon detecting a colour?
Like announcing the station name for example.

I don't think that it's possible with the powered up app :/

@@technicmaster0tutorials hmm.. I was wondering if that was possible.. If I remember it correctly, I think the lego boost app allow adding custom sound..

Yep the boost app has a block to do so.

Hey thanks man, not too sure why these have such few views as it's a great resource. Have you found that the sensor won't detect cyan, magenta or orange? Cyan just detects as blue and magenta and orange just detect as red, have you found this. And thanks again, there is such a lack of information about powered up, seems very strange that Lego don't publish anything. I am waiting to see if anyone make a balancing bot with powered up.

Well this channel is pretty young, so that's probably a big part of the reason.
I had issues with several colors. Some work better, some are worse so it doesn't surprise me.
Sadly the wireless connection between the hub and the smart device is a bit too slow. But that doesn't stop the community ;)

One question: are you running the Powered Up App on PC? Ho do you do that?

    • @technicmaster0tutorials

      It's running on android

@@technicmaster0tutorials is it on a tablet with a mouse connected?

Something like that. It's a moddedm docked nintendo switch that is running android with a USB mouse. The screen gets captured with an Elgato HD capture card.

I'm trying to get my Main Street Trolley to go back and forth automatically, not in a circle. But even doing this exact tutorial it will not stop on red.

You can see if the sensor detects the color correctly.

@@shannonstarich1889 Use the "read color" block whithout any connection to another block while the hub is connected. You'll see the value it detects.
