This very meticulous gunsmith is an example to the Trade and performed this mod beautifully. Mind you, I am not entirely clear why Ceasar Guerinni allowed a gun to leave the factory with this deficiency!!!
As malleable as lead is you can expect the lead to compact into the front of the drill hole a little bit on every shot. This is an experience I had using this same technique. After a little over a 1000 shots the lead would not fall out of the drill hole. I was concerned a split stock was going to happen. To remove the lead plug I drilled into the lead, screwed in a lag bolt and used a gear puller to extract the lead. I have since cased the lead in a 3/4 inch OD copper tube to mitigate the lead compaction problem. But that’s a lot of work. I recommend buying a set of balance weights. They are not as malleable as lead and will work better in the long run.
I did basically the same thing on my B-525 with 32" barrels. But, I used a spent 3 1/2" 12 gauge shell. I cut a dowel about 1" long, in front of the shell where it rests on the bolt that attaches the stock to the receiver, this protects the bolt and stock from repeated recoil. I then would put #9 shot into the shell until it balanced. I have used it for at least 5 years, running it 12, and 20, 28, 410 with tubes. Never had an issue. Just used the existing hole and did not have to drill anything.
I’ve got a 12g CG and it too was v nose heavy - the barrels were so slow😢. I used kiln dried sand and filled the void up in the stock which balanced it just right. No drilling etc and easy as. Also the extra mass in the stock really soaks up recoil. I can shoot big pheasant loads or equivalent steel loads comfortably no problem and the barrels are so much faster and easier to swing
Can I ask what barrel length the gun is & how much lead did you have to add? I tried this (lead strips in bolt hole) with my 30" barrel sporter & had to add 11oz! The gun swung much better just too heavy for a day on the clays. TIA
Go to the hardware store by some bolts wrap cloth around them when you have the right size bolts then cut with a hacksaw cram down in whatever hole is already in the stock back it with Styrofoam so it doesn't slam and move around your good to go for under a dollar
How can adding that amount of weight above the centre line not cause canting issue. Whats wrong with a simple fix of putting lead shot inside a thin sock and using the stock bolt hole instead. This keeping mass low. Oh that’s right you’re a gunsmith and you wouldn’t be able to charge for shedding work like that. No way would I agree to you boring an additional hole above centre to add weight. Fool the sheep tho great job ol chap

No mention of the Kinetic Balancer system, provided by CG, that just slides into the same hole? They are weight-adjustable also reduce recoil.

A lot of fapping around for something than can be fixed with a bolt and some nuts placed in existing stock hole.
Hope you wore a serious mask (HEPA & or N99) & had lots of ventilation as fumes (lead oxide and from treated timber) are rather dangerous?
