I've been doing this for decades. I do it from the bottom. Don't use a drill bit, it puts metal shavings into the can. Just use a tapered punch to make the hole as big as you need. I use a can of freeze spray, which is typically freon 134 to repressurize the can. The spray tube will usually fit the spray nozzle on the can, or you can swap nozzles, and allow easy repressurizing. Works like a charm.
When you figure out a hack that wasted 10x more money than not doing the hack. You can still spend less than this on an airbrush kit. Those are already refillable and spray much better than a can. Plus using plain air as a propellant is a good way to introduce moisture to your paint.
I bought similar thing already made by company with larger top cap for easy refill years ago. It was made of stronger and slightly larger metal can. It even came with 3 different nuzzel. Never worked for several reasons. Air you pumped in must be free of water and no moisture. Sprayer nuzzel must be washed off with thinner every time you use (this means waste some money. You need to be professional to know how much and what kind of thinner to use with each type of paint. You have to filter the paint before usage. So, it's easier to use disposable spray can. Anyone has good luck with this refillable solution?

there's 2 thing you should consider for that. 1. Your paint mixture. Paint + thinner so the density should be anough to go through the hose. 2. Air pressure, It must be around 45-80 PSI.
You can buy a refillable can designed for this exact purpose fot $15-20. Some even have a pump built in. Some countries do not have hardware stores, but somehow have spray paint, so whatever you need to do.
This is better because u can refill the paint....after all cane of paint is expensive than normal paint. I don't know in your country,,,,l love this idea and l have made a lot of this and it saves money
Ummm tools and materials should already be present and available for use in one’s household, yes?! The amount of spray paint to do jobs is what would run around $100.

But I still agree this serves almost no purpose other than custom color. 20 dollar amazon ½ anvil impact with a drill chuck on it 15 dollar amazon 4 inch grinder 2 dollar scissors 5 dollar pliers And that's our prices, imagine what those cost when there isn't shipping, seller markup and taxes added on.
Some spraypaint prices have reached upto $28.00 for one spraycan, but this DIY project is extremely dangerous considering the valve was secured with epoxy only, and most importantly, there is no mention of the max safety air pressure !
