You know what's sad? If you ask a modern AFI fan what the first AFI album was, they'll say "Uhh... Sing the Sorrow, right?" They have NO clue about the old stff. I mean, the new stuff is great, but the old AFI was just as ood, if not better, and people should know that stuff before they call themselves "fans"
GAHHHHH MCR ARE AWESOME, INCREDIBLE, FUCKING GREAT....AND GUESS WHAT SO IS AFI...get over it if they all wanna do a cover of one of their fav artists.....and hell yeah Moz's own is gunna be the best....but these ones live up to it xxx
Yeah, I was talking to this one girl about Blaqk Audio (which I loved) and she was like "I didn't like that. I was more into the older stuff. Like decemberunderground" and I was like "Umm... that came out last year (at the time that time was accurate).
Lmao honestly having grown up listening to AFI i used to hate on people who started listening to AFI during the sing the sorrow era but now that im older sing the sorrow is my absolute favorite afi album. kinda dont care as much for the early stuff now
this version is more true to the original, but the mcr version was a good hardcore punk arangement perhaps if they rerecoded it properly it would sound sharper all three versions are good
actually, they used Anthems for Insubordinates as some sort of production thing on the first 2 or 3 albums. The name was almost always A Fire Inside. I saw an old interview with Davey and he was talking about it.
@bjjplyr1 no? they had a song called jack the ripper but its different. Morrisy has a completly different song that also happens to be called jack the ripper...im pretty sure of it...
hey guys a lot of you are hating afis new stuff. i mean, sure its not pure punk anymore but a band isnt meant to stay the same.. what fun would it be if all the albums sounded the same? part of a bands job is to evolve. they like their music and so their fans should too right? i mean, we are their fans..well i am =] lets be fan friends mann.
no probs and yeah i understand what you mean....like up untill 2 months ago i only had 3 songs on my iPod and thats all i knew from them....no big deal if i dont know any others....
I'll do my best to find it for ya bro. It's kind of hard to find though. I think it's "Davey Havok on old punk show" or something like that. It's one of the oldies though.
If I could find the pro-recorded - not just recorded crappy so it sounds like it's live - version, then it would probably sound better. Does anyone know where I can listen to it?
MORRISSEY!!! This is better than the Killers cover of "why don't you find out for yourself." i don't like the killers, but i like morrissey and that cover is really good. i listen to more stuff like AFI, old and new
Ive heard this, Morrissey, and MCR's versions of the song, and I prefer MCR over the three. Their cover has one of the coolest bass lines Ive heard in any song, and I like the way they sped it up, yet still managed to make the song longer. If anyone on this site wants to go at something and say that a band "sucks" then they might want to go back and check on themselves, the sound like they know an awful lot about sucking on something. Theres nothing wrong with any version, so keep it to yourself
nicely put dude look i cant stand AFIs new stuff they cahnged WAY too much but i not sayin u guys should hate them too just tink out if ur fav band changed to sometin u hate :(
i get your point imagine if metallica released kill em all every year, we'd never have master of puppets! but they did release st anger (if you get my confusing metaphor :P)
they were only trying to create a version of the song due to the fact they have the ability to sing and are in a band, they have the recording equipment and Moz is evidently one of their heros so back off, they can cover the song if they want...
@Necromancerfreak666 This is so far from the truth... Morrissey wrote the song and that is a well known fact. If by some odd chance mcr wrote it then why wouldn't they have a studio version?
I'm not saying ALL of them, but for alot of them it's true. The first one I got was sing the sorrow. I just find the one's that don't even know abbout the old stuff but still consider themselves diehard AFI fans annoying.
While not spectacular (the song itself is not so good), the idea of the choir in the background was great. I would like the concept being applied by AFI in a song of their own to a greater extent. Not to spam the idea, but experiment with it.
If I could find the pro-recorded version of the My Chemical Romance cover of this song, it would probably sound better. Does anyone know whwre I can find it?
man i miss the old days. when afi was a badass punk band. heavily influenced by the misfits, but still pretty original...now it just sounds like he's crying in every song. oh well
afi version of this song sound similar to morrissey. mcr version give this song a different approach which not many people like. i like the mcr version more in my opinion xP
No offense and it's honestly an honest question but is AFI emo? Im sorry i listen to punk and they covered an Misfit song so i checked them out they sounds okay but was just wondering
why the hell are you getting thumbs down when you are merely stating you own opinion on the matter ppl cant give you thumbs down for only liking 2 of afi's songs GAH LOL XX
i love this song
and I love how affectionately AFI sang it. it's pretty ironic considering what this song is about.
Still love this.
good song, afi is such a great band. all their albums are great, easily one of the best rock bands of the 90s and 2000s!
This cover is love
I remember listening to this in 2007, middle school 🥹🖤
Great song, very well performed as well.
Always interesting

I'm addicted to this song right now.
It's just...wow.
This is a cover of Morrissey's Jack the Ripper.
A.F.I did a good job :D
Anyone who covers Morrissey is alright in my book
YES ITS THAT PIC! :)
i love the pic at the end :}
I think Davey Havok is the only person in the world who should even attempt to cover a morrissey or cure song because both are awesome (:
ooh, this is a great cover :)
i think it's awesome how davey sings with an english accent
it makes up for all the english folk who sing with an american accent
Nailed it. Perfect.

i like this cover. it's very nice. i would admit that mcr really did a bad job covering it but i like mcr's too.
AFI forever!!!!!!!
:]]
no probs and yeah i understand what you mean....like up untill 2 months ago i only had 3 songs on my iPod and thats all i knew from them....no big deal if i dont know any others....

@coldwinter08
Some untruly, it's from Love Like Winter single :D
It's a really good cover, and it puts an interesting new spin on the song, but in my opinion, nothing beats the original.
yeah man :D
Agreed
@bjjplyr1 wrong. Moz wrote it. The Horrors happen to have a song with the same name.
Hahaha, I like you, someone finally decides to show some manners on a youtube video, yes, good job on this coldwinter08
Yeah, because evolving over time is certainly what prefabs do...
BTW, Robert Smith rules.
If I could find the pro-recorded - not just recorded crappy so it sounds like it's live - version, then it would probably sound better. Does anyone know where I can listen to it?
not from New York, he's from Berkely California. The song is also a cover by Morrissey
DecemberUnderGOD.
MORRISSEY!!! This is better than the Killers cover of "why don't you find out for yourself." i don't like the killers, but i like morrissey and that cover is really good. i listen to more stuff like AFI, old and new

um ppl jack the ripper was also written by MCR afi covered it i kinda like MCRs version this one is a bit slow for me but still i love AFI
I agree on that subject.
This is a horror punk song
hmmm same here there just so amazing and tallented despite what everyone says about them =] xxx
nicely put dude look i cant stand AFIs new stuff they cahnged WAY too much but i not sayin u guys should hate them too just tink out if ur fav band changed to sometin u hate :(
thought so, morrissey is amazing
i get your point
imagine if metallica released kill em all every year, we'd never have master of puppets!
but they did release st anger
(if you get my confusing metaphor :P)
cool
they were only trying to create a version of the song due to the fact they have the ability to sing and are in a band, they have the recording equipment and Moz is evidently one of their heros so back off, they can cover the song if they want...
Hmmm same here lol i was like "even if i click this link and its shit i will still love it!" bahaa
This is a good cover actually, but no one... and I mean NO ONE can express so much feelings in his voice as Moz does...
@Necromancerfreak666 This is so far from the truth... Morrissey wrote the song and that is a well known fact. If by some odd chance mcr wrote it then why wouldn't they have a studio version?
I love morrissey and AFI's versions, but I must say that the orginal is better. I think AFI cover is awesome too.
its the way its gotta be ^_^
I'm not a big fan of Morrisey, but I msut igve ti to him for composing such a great song.
2022
I'm not saying ALL of them, but for alot of them it's true. The first one I got was sing the sorrow. I just find the one's that don't even know abbout the old stuff but still consider themselves diehard AFI fans annoying.

0:35....godly
If I could find the pro-recorded version of the My Chemical Romance cover of this song, it would probably sound better. Does anyone know whwre I can find it?
so who's supposed to be "satiring" or "parodying" in your opinion? Obey or Afi's singer?
AFI are a better band than MCR in every way, no matter what any of you say
MORRISSEY. the AFI and My Chemical Romance versions are both covers. go look up the original, it's the best.
what is the name of the song composed by Morrisey that was made again by AFI?
Hahahaha! that was funny
man i miss the old days. when afi was a badass punk band. heavily influenced by the misfits, but still pretty original...now it just sounds like he's crying in every song. oh well
afi version of this song sound similar to morrissey. mcr version give this song a different approach which not many people like. i like the mcr version more in my opinion xP
@TastiusBurger Jimmy Eat World is emo? Uh...okay...
I'm not even gonna bother arguing.
That's what I always wondered. A big hmmm.....
where did you get the pic at 1:05? i NEED it and i can't find it anywhere.
@Pakojerte323 Nah AFI isnt emo. Like their early stuff was punk now their like alternative rock well thats what i think they are its confusing.
well good for you some people like it and some dont
Yellow eyeshadow ftw
No offense and it's honestly an honest question but is AFI emo?
Im sorry i listen to punk and they covered an Misfit song so i checked them out
they sounds okay but was just wondering
bad ass cool fuck yey cool i loved it
ok i think this song. im not a fan of morrissey but i like this cover
MCR's version was shit.
This is almost as good as the orginal.
AFI rules.
MORRISSEY
i love Morrissey, but I like AFI's version more.
Dave's manner
why the hell are you getting thumbs down when you are merely stating you own opinion on the matter ppl cant give you thumbs down for only liking 2 of afi's songs GAH LOL XX
the misfits covered astro zombies dude
@Pakojerte323 i was thinking the same thing for the same reason LOL
yo, im here, how about you, u got a bowl to smoke while im listening to you type?
We can't just hate them because they've changed. How fun would it be for any group to stay the exact same for 17 years? Terrible.
i agree with misspromchicks
This cover isn't as bad as I thought it would be, It's not completely offensive. 3/5
It's alright but it will never compare to the great Morrissey's OG version.
isn't this a morrissey cover?
The "Shit version" would be that of My Chemical Romance.
@Necromancerfreak666 yeahhhhh, morrissey wrote it. sorry kiddo.
i olny like MCR'S old stuff
@TheAmericanFrenchman If I cared whether he was gay or not, I wouldn't have supported them for this long.
Ever heard of satire/parody? It was the whole point of the T-shirt.
Fuck this! I'm gonna write a "Jack the Ripper" that's not copywritten AND will sound like old AFI!
Wuuw... awesome... but I p´refer MCR´s cover, because I like their punk style XD...
Byezzzzz
20. How old are you??
'gerad' indeed.
He didn't write it, doll.
It's a Morrissey cover.
this sounds like a different song than the one that My Chemical Romance covered
