The problem with the hp reading is that there is tire spin... you can. Calculate hp with a few two inputs. Delta velocity and time of that change. With the weight being known by the ecu. Break traction and wheel speed will skyrocket in a short time. The car will think it went from 30 to 80 in 1.5 seconds when in reality it may only be going 60.
Although I could be wrong if its using an accelerometer and weight

Have an 87 buick grand national, getting on a freeway on ramp, I got into the throttle a little to much and got into boost, the rear tires lit up. This onramp was 1 lane with concrete walls on each side of the lane. I was affraid to let off and wind up hitting the wall, I basically feathered the throttle and drifted my way around until the lane straightened out. I'm sure the people driving behind me were both amazed and confused by the scene.
