Georgia on my Mind -- jazz piano solo (Zoom H4n recorder)

  • This is a great standard tune by Hoagy Carmichael. The challenging part is keeping the rhythm steady and the swing going at such a slow tempo. I wanted to set the beat without a metronome, so there are some tempo variations in it. This is more just plain vanilla playing instead of performing, so it's pretty laid back and informal. I enjoyed doing it. I hope you enjoy listening to it.
    I used a variation on the chord progressions for the A section: F -Em7b5-A7-Dm-Dm7/C-Bm7b5-Bbm7-Eb7-Am7-D7-Gm7-Db7-C7-F
    My other recorder broke, so I'm trying out the new Zoom H4n recorder, just using the built in microphones. I have the unit 18" over the dampers, inside the case, pointing toward the back of the piano. I tweaked the sound in Logic with phase inversion, reduced stereo width, EQ, compression, reverb and an AdLim.

    This is not 'Georgia on my mind', this is philosophy, entertainment, transcendent and virtuosity packed into one fundamental song ever made. Thank you.

      Lewis Paulo Which genre has the potential to be most technically challenging? Most of the serious pianists I know are classical players. Although I've always knows jazz in general houses some of the best musicians ever.

    • @FlaThunderstorm
      @FlaThunderstorm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The two most important facets of classical that can be directly applied to jazz are the ability to read staff sheet music and the exercises that strengthen the hands and wrists such as scales, triads, etc., You can play standards and jazz without reading staff sheet music. However, good jazz musicians all read staff sheet music which many times has arrangements built into it.

      I don't know how it happened.. but I looked up Hugh Lauries version of Georgia on my mind on chordify. I found out somebody
      had done it..it was me..I think
      I'm playing it on guitar. My site is
      primarily piano. Just a funny thing
      That happened.

    I have been listening to your videos for at least 12 years, most of them multiple times, and I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to be able to play piano...I played guitar and bass in dance bands for many years...well, sir, about 3 months ago I decided it was time to start learning piano. I can see this is going to take a while, but since I'm a few weeks short of 80, I feel like I can accomplish a lot on the new journey. Thank you for inspiring me and hundreds of others with your playing and sharing. God Bless....

    Hi 7 note man . It's been a while since I've listened to you. I've been working on this tune for about, oh, 40 years. Nicely balanced performance. The down and dirty and the clean pristine voicings and technique. .p.s. At age 15 I got to meet Hoagy at a Republican fundraiser my parents put on in country club land, in the 60's for some actor politician, running for Senate in California. "this is Hoagy Carmichael. He wrote "Georgia". "okay, nice to meet you.". I was more enthralled by the presence of the big dorky muscle guy actor from the Mission Impossible original series.
