This really hit home with me, while my neighborhood isn't the greatest we own our home. It's not the best one on the block, it's old and needs updating. However, when I step outside there all these better looking houses that are empty, they are for renters. No one can afford the rent here anymore, families are stacked on top of each other. The houses that are occupied have nice cars, beautiful lawns, people get out of their fancy cars all dressed nice. We are struggling with money at the moment, when I ask my husband what are we doing wrong. His answer is always "they are pretending to have money, they are in debt, we aren't" . We both grew up really poor, I forget to be grateful for what we do have.

This is probably the best video I've seen on TH-cam in a long time. Incredibly thought provoking. The reason people feel so far behind is largely down to the idea or lack of idea of what happiness looks like. Everyone wants more. More money, more free time, more gratification, more security. Even millionaires drive to get more out of their lives. Without really knowing what they're looking to get. Money is a tangible item to measure success. But the reality is there's never enough of it for most people. Even if they do have enough, people are engrained to need/want more.
Thank you for this video.. as first gen immigrants in their late 30s, who are yet to buy their house without any help from parents, it's often intimidating/embarrassing seeing other parents so well settled in their own homes and jobs. However, I tell myself our achievement is knowing we're giving our kids opportunities we never had as kids and that's good enough for us 🙂
It wasn't until I retired and looked back on my career and life that I realised I was satisfied with my life (although financially I would still love a big lottery win)

Damien, I have to express my gratitude for the incredible shift your TH-cam channel has taken. What started as a source of financial advice for me has evolved into a journey of thought-provoking videos with profound storytelling. Your ability to delve into philosophy and create an emotional impact by the end of each video is truly impressive. It's not just about money anymore; your content has become a profound exploration of life and perspectives that resonates with me on a deeper level. Keep up the fantastic work!
I love all your videos Damo. But this... this format is what sets you apart from the rest the research the placement the wording fun and facts. Absolute recipe of knowledge love it. ❤
I just feel compelled, like so many others, to say Damien, keep this going, keep sharing, keep supporting, keep dreaming, keep educating, keep laughing, keep entertaining and keep caring. This country, this planet, needs people like you. Just wish you were on the ballot paper...
You are still so young and I hope this video made you realise you are not behind. But if you still feel that way, between the ages of 27 and 35 I basically turned my whole life around and went from behind everyone to well out in front. Just make a plan and execute on it in only takes a couple years to completely change your position
@@DamienTalksMoney Cheers mate. Yes, been so up and down after finishing uni and wanting to change careers slightly. Having a plan and working towards it is being a success. It’s about the journey and not always the goal. All the best with the future and thanks for taking the time to reach out 👊
Damien I appreciate you. I must confess I recently achieved something I did ever imagine and life is something else, happiness is the goal with what you got and what you own without being like some societies always chasing. From my humble roots in Venezuela, I got to a point when I truly don't need anything else so no need to chase or look up anyone. Respect.
Never really comment on videos. But this one has made me realise I don’t need to compare myself to people. And you don’t become rich/financially free over night.
Just the video i needed to watched. I'm my late 20s and have been feeling so behind my peers recently. This video helped me realised I'm actually doing fine. Some people do get more help than others, which is okay but what isn't okay is for me to compared myself to them. i have learnt to find gratitude in what i already have. Keep up the good content.
This was a fantastic video. Thank you for sharing. A powerful reminder. I have been discussing this topic with my wife recently and realizing i am too hard on myself because we don’t own a house yet. It’s been hard to accept that we will be ok.
My late dad coined a saying, which I often repeated to my students: "There's no point gazing into the reverse crystal-ball and predicting what might have turned out better given different circumstances." I had a tendency to do this until I realised it was utterly, utterly futile - all you do is upset yourself and achieve absolutely nothing. Oscar Wilde famously said: "To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance." It is, of course, a humorous witticism, but it contains a profound realisation: the sooner we learn to appreciate ourselves on our own terms and for the person we are, the sooner we will blossom into the very best version of ourselves - and that might well only happen later in life.
A-MA-ZING video to watch and then re-watch every now and then. Encouraging but not in a „you’re perfect already and don’t have to improve” kind of way.
An exceptional video, thank you for this, genuinely. Your video on happiness changed the way I see the world and this is another perspective shift that I needed
I really really needed this video today. I've been watching personal finance yt channels and the emphasis on starting in your late teens/early twenties while you're in your mid 40's is like being under the weight of a huge boulder. I got sober, got clean, got off the streets/hotels, got married, treated my ptsd, therapied for my FOO trauma. I was homeless for almost ten years. I *couldn't* have done anything but bare survival in my early adulthood. I scrounged dumpsters for leftover french fries. There was zero way I was investing in a 40-flipping-1k. I constantly feel like I'm playing catch-up and coming up short. Thank you so much for giving me some perspective on this. Helping me see the entire journey as still ongoing, not finished. If anyone who grew up like I did is reading this, I hope you're doing ok. Take care of yourself, avoid exciting people and stick with boring people, give yourself a hug for making it this far.
Look at how much you have achieved! How many others could do that? Take that energy and strength you clearly have and use it to propel you forwards you will run laps around everyone
Phenomenal video. Love this Oscar speech and Dallas Buyers Club is a devastating watch. Very important to look far we have come. I’m sat here, 35, 2 kids, 3 bed-semi. Would it be nice to have a bigger house some day? Sure. But am I happy right now? Absolutely! Also like to add my financials are in a much healthier state since I started watching this channel 😉
Thanks @Damien! This has got to be my favourite video on all of TH-cam till now and will definitely make an impact on my life! Thanks again for this content! Keep it up mate! Looking forward to more!
That’s the great lesson of The Gap and the Gain - that feeling of being behind never ever stops. So sooner or later we have to find new ways to measure our contentment in life.
Watched this yesterday and thought it was a new video with a new shiny face 😀. I sometimes feel I'm chasing my own age. Not anyone else. But this video is a stark reminder to us all, we're all on our own journeys. Your videos get more and more valuable each day.
Here is another one for you Damien, on TH-cam for over 10 years, this is my first ever comment - Amazing job, well done. 2nd time in my life subscribed for someone.
Another great video Damien. I learned some time ago that people will make themselves broke trying to look like they're doing well. And it's really quite pointless trying to compare oneself to another person in a different position. It's often lopsided in that you notice people doing better than you, but not so much those not doing as well as you, unless it's acutely obvious.
Quality work Damien, I'm your lad from the North East! Doing well, always pushing on and never appreciate the journey. Thanks for making me take a second to think!
Top video Damien, I really needed this today. Was feeling down and unmotivated for several reasons. The McConaughey speeches plus your research and content gave me a lift that was needed to push on with things that seemed useless or pointless. Will be saving this video for future motivation 👍
I feel more behind in time to get things done right now than financial, in my 30s things are starting to go really well but the amount of time is the challenge at the moment
That was an incredibly well put together and thought provoking video. I’ve been a silent watcher for a long time. I earn a respectable wage, yet always feeling that I’m not doing enough or where I want to be. That is regardless of how much I put into pension and invest. This video has helped me. Thank you.
Damien talks more than money, he talks so much sense……alright, alright, alright - love it Damien and looking forward to more during 2024 🎉from a Brummie living in Shanghai 😊
Amazing video, we spend so much time looking at visible or measurable factors such as salary, cars, watches and houses we forget to look at hidden factors such as debt levels, happiness, stress levels etc.
This is an amazing video Damien with such a powerful message. I feel like all young people need to watch this. But it's also such a motivating message for me aged 49. Thank you so much
It’s so amazing to see such varied and wisdom rich content from a creator that sounds like me. People don’t quite understand the barriers of the mind that West Midlanders face when we want to put our thoughts out there. Logic being due to the negative stereotypes that a few vowel sounds can somehow determine intelligence. You got me going on investing for my future, and you’re helping me to feel confident when I speak to a client from somewhere else in the UK. Keep smashing it mate.s
The barrier of the mind is such a good way of putting it. Thank you for this comment it is validating in a way to hear someone else vocalise how i feel when I listen to myself talk and think I just sound stupid.. Next time i feel like this i will remember this comment.
You don't sound stupid Damien. You are a very good speaker weaving humour and wisdom into your financial expertise. A really good teacher to my daughter who I thought was brilliant and didn't expect her to ever doubt herself, told me that my letter of thanks to her was treasured and she said that she kept such kindnesses in a special box, and when she felt down or inadequate, she got them all out of the box and read them. This suprised me at the time because I had thought she was really confident. It' taught me that it's s important to nurture yourself no matter how successful we are. Thank you, I will watch this video again. Louise
What a fantastic idea, always chasing your future self. I like that. I'm in a much better place than 10 years ago, I'm sure I'll be in a better one in 10 years time. I'll certainly strive to be!
Hi Damien. I watched your video the other day about taking a new direction and expanding. Your previous videos have always been superb and this one is even better. You’re doing some amazing work.
Interesting chat Damien, I recently retired from financial services having worked as an IFA for 30 years. There was a period when I gave mortgage advice and when my heart would sink if I arrived at a prospective clients home and saw two new cars on the drive. Quite often the overtly wealthy aren’t that wealthy at all; often their apparent wealth is largely built on debt. I really enjoyed your previous video which discussed the lack of financial education in the U.K. I have spent a lot of time thinking about this same thing and I’m eager to share as much knowledge with my daughters (as they’re willing to take 😂). I think your aspirations for this channel are spot on and I hope some of your viewers are young enough to pick up the right knowledge and habits that will serve them well through their future careers. Keep up the good fight my friend ❤
Needed this!.. I've been in a long term relationship and my girlfriend is ready to settle down whereas I don't even have savings. We grew up in completely different environments and circumstances. I grew up in a broken home so had extra responsibilities and lately I've just been feeling like a failure mainly because of my girlfriend and I'm not where she is financially lol. But I am trying to just become a better me
Thanks Damian. I only discovered your channel recently and I can’t stop watching. Honestly your videos are so well put together they bring a tear to my eye!!! So please keep doing what you are doing! 😍
I will keep this sweet and short. Absolutely tremendous video. Start to finish. Great work Damien. Keep it up. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Greetings from sunny South Africa🇿🇦
Thanks so much for this mate. A lot of grifters out there have tricked me before by telling me 'this is where you should be financially in your 30s', you have given me a lot of hope.
Incredible video Damien! Might be this time of the year but I've been reflecting on this lately and looking at friends and what they have accomplished and certainly feel left behind. This vid did a great job putting some perspective on things. Thanks!
Being ‘proud to give your kids a leg up’ perpetuates unfairness and disparity. We need to create a world where you are rewarded purely on merit. Not who you’re born to. I know exactly who I’m chasing, and if I’m unlucky, I’ll die never accomplishing the same or more. But i have to try. I have to prove despite their unfair advantage, I can and will access the same life experience as them. Or die trying.
That was such a great video, and it would deserve much more than a single thumb up. i am in my fourties and often felt behind compared to some of my peers, thinking of all the time I wasted doing stupid stuff. In less than 20 min, this video can help putting things in perspective. I am big fan of SLJ movies and the MCU, but never looked at the perspective of his age. In this age of over competition on who can show off more, this video is a breath of fresh air.
Thanks for all your hard work. If is appreciated mate. My 20s I felt like you. Like it was too late for success. Since 30, I've built a career, become a part time fire fighter and changed my life. 20s are for lessons learned. 30s we are just beginning.
Damien I always enjoy your content but this was really executed so well! The point was made! One thing I’ve been reflecting on recently is your conversation with Gary Stevenson, I’d love to hear you talk more about what you took away from that conversation, the preservation of a middle class, especially with the consideration of being a parent, the economy we’re building for our children
Damien, I had to take a minute to say a big T H A N K Y O U ! You don't only provide information that helps our pockets but in this vid here, it is evident that you also produce videos that can positively impact our lives in general. Awesome ending. Feeling positive about the day ahead, thank you, thank you.
Ive just discovered this channel and I absolutely love it, how on earth do you know so much at such a young age. I wish I knew what you know at your age but still, its never too late.
I may be in front of many as I earn that magic number 50k but my wife is far from a big earner because she was a stay at home mum and a part time worker so I’m a long way behind today’s middle earners (joint incomes). When it comes to most I’m behind, or so I believe because I don’t have a personal pension. I’m in my late 50s and have just started a work pension, yea maybe too late, but at least I’ve started. I’ve had an awesome life so far but I’m now worried about old age and funding my retirement. We have both paid in all our life’s and never needed help so rightly or wrongly, we will do what we can because we’re grafters but at some stage we most probably will be dependent on the state. The state pension should not = survival, and stay at home mums if they choose should be encouraged, I could go on. Bottom line people are tax cows that are expected by the government who care very little for anyone but themselves.
Totally agree woth you. I can't afford to have a baby because stay at home mums not encouraged. I hope you start to put away from your pension now . Damien gives brilliant advise. It's never too late.

I just feel compelled, like so many others, to say Damien, keep this going, keep sharing, keep supporting, keep dreaming, keep educating, keep laughing, keep entertaining and keep caring. This country, this planet, needs people like you. Just wish you were on the ballot paper...
Fuck me Damien ! This gave me goosebumps. You keep getting better and better. Never stop….and Thankyou !
Thank you so much
Great video. Was literally having this crisis as I was walking home thinking I’m 27 next month and feel so behind.
I would argue that this is one of if not the best video you made so far.
Well done!
Damo, you've smashed it with this video! It has really made me stop and think about how far I've come.
I really enjoyed this video, really, really hit home.
I am doing alright!
Thank you.
You really are doing alright mate!
One of your best videos yet man! Raw and touching.
This is one of the most encouraging videos I've seen in a long time... Thank you for that perspective.
Thanks dude, I needed this.
You are so welcome mate!
You're very wise, it's a pleasure to listen to you! I did very well with my career, now I hope to improve my finances by learning from you!
Bloody Brilliant video - Becoming my new favourite channel. Thanks Damien.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. I wont rest until i claim the title of your fave channel.
Love this!@@DamienTalksMoney
Phenomenal video. Love this Oscar speech and Dallas Buyers Club is a devastating watch.
Very important to look far we have come. I’m sat here, 35, 2 kids, 3 bed-semi. Would it be nice to have a bigger house some day? Sure. But am I happy right now? Absolutely!
Also like to add my financials are in a much healthier state since I started watching this channel 😉
Love this mate! We have been together a long while now, so good to hear you are doing well
The timing of this video couldn't be better. Exactly what I need to watch today! Thank you!
Thanks @Damien! This has got to be my favourite video on all of TH-cam till now and will definitely make an impact on my life! Thanks again for this content! Keep it up mate! Looking forward to more!
Damien you just took your level of filmmaking to another level. This is an amazing video and I hope it gets the numbers it deserves.
My favourite video you’ve made. Explains the battle I have with myself. This has given me some great perspective. Thank you
Another great video Damien.
The 'Psychology of Money' was an eye opener for me. Thanks for talking about this, giving us thr healthy perspective.
Top video Damien, I really needed this today. Was feeling down and unmotivated for several reasons. The McConaughey speeches plus your research and content gave me a lift that was needed to push on with things that seemed useless or pointless. Will be saving this video for future motivation 👍
Honestly Damian you’re doing so much more than you thinking… I was in this mindset, but you put everything in such a fucking amazing perspective
I feel more behind in time to get things done right now than financial, in my 30s things are starting to go really well but the amount of time is the challenge at the moment
Classic, when you have time you have no money, when you have money you have no time
my aim is to have time and money ultimately haha @@QuotidianStupidity
That was an incredibly well put together and thought provoking video. I’ve been a silent watcher for a long time. I earn a respectable wage, yet always feeling that I’m not doing enough or where I want to be. That is regardless of how much I put into pension and invest. This video has helped me. Thank you.
I’ve loved your content to date. But I think this jumps above, outstanding video. Thanks for sharing!
Damien talks more than money, he talks so much sense……alright, alright, alright - love it Damien and looking forward to more during 2024 🎉from a Brummie living in Shanghai 😊
This is top notch content. It makes me realised of something that I have not felt before. Thanks Damien ❤
Brilliant videos- very humbling. Gratitude of who we are as we are is powerful
Amazing video, we spend so much time looking at visible or measurable factors such as salary, cars, watches and houses we forget to look at hidden factors such as debt levels, happiness, stress levels etc.
Thank you very much, I really needed that
I had to rewatch this video, Damien. Protect this man at all cost. He is a gem.
This is an amazing video Damien with such a powerful message. I feel like all young people need to watch this. But it's also such a motivating message for me aged 49. Thank you so much
Fantastic video, thank you - going to be sharing this with my kids 🔥 such a positive message 🙏🏼
Louise
@@louisemartin7728 Great story Louise!
A lot of people will benefit from this. Excellent video.
The list, the stream of piss, the climbers on the cliff. It's amazing the creative use of things to keep us engaged on this channel!
But I am trying to just become a better me
That was a very emotional and uplifting finance video. Can’t agree more about Matthew Mcconaughey and his point, top bloke
You're such a gift Damien!
What a deeply honest, vulnerable and inspiring video! Food for thought in this image/status obsessed world! Good on you Damien for making this video!
This is very heartwarming and real great perspective for everyone to look at Damo 👏
Thanks Damian. I only discovered your channel recently and I can’t stop watching. Honestly your videos are so well put together they bring a tear to my eye!!! So please keep doing what you are doing! 😍
The level of story telling from you is brilliant! 👏🏼 Great video mate!
Thank you!
Keep doing what your doing mate! You’re a relatable, down to earth content creator!
Great video, your authenticity is your superpower Damo
Thank you!
Profound...Love this. I predict yourself in 10 years time...Or 10 years time will be on that list Damien.
I will keep this sweet and short.
Absolutely tremendous video. Start to finish.
Great work Damien. Keep it up.
5 stars

Greetings from sunny South Africa🇿🇦
100% agree beautifly put Johnny!
What a wonderful, and genuinely heart warming video. Has made my evening. Well done buddy, great content!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it
Damien, Damien, Damien. 👊🏻 Looking at the progress that I’ve made has really helped keep things in perspective for me, so thank you.
Everyone has an opinion but mine is that this kinda of content is the finest that you do, researched, relatable and relevant. Keep them coming
superb, thought provoking video Damien, thanks for posting it.
Thanks so much for this mate. A lot of grifters out there have tricked me before by telling me 'this is where you should be financially in your 30s', you have given me a lot of hope.
Came for the financial education, stayed for the inspiration!
Another cracking, beautifully crafted, and inspiring one!
Thank you so much! Lovely to hear you found it inspiring
Damo has started 2024 with banger after banger 🙌🏻
That was such a great video, and it would deserve much more than a single thumb up. i am in my fourties and often felt behind compared to some of my peers, thinking of all the time I wasted doing stupid stuff. In less than 20 min, this video can help putting things in perspective. I am big fan of SLJ movies and the MCU, but never looked at the perspective of his age. In this age of over competition on who can show off more, this video is a breath of fresh air.
This is sublime mate. 👏👏Saw you prepping this one on Instagram and was looking forward to it. Excellent message and storytelling. Loving your work.
Just what I needed. Amazing video, Damien. Have enjoyed seeing you evolve over the years. 🎉
I rarely comment on videos, but this is an amazing video. Well done, your videos are what I look forward to when I open youtube.
Great video :) it’s important for finance to be relative and not a mindless target - keep sharing this message
Absolutely love your content. Thanks for this!! You've made finances interesting and accessible. I've begun investing after watching your vids 👍👍
Love this! Thank you so much for watching
Thank you… I needed that
So glad youre not just another financial TH-camr who makes the same 5 points we all already know.
Love this feedback! My biggest fear is being stale and repetitive
