In discussions with a former Pats receiver, he confirmed Brady's commitment to avoiding certain throws. In addition, my friend was trained by the Pats to stay low and go to the ground on crossing routes. Brady's job was to throw it low on those routes. I remember when Wes Welker left the Pats to play for the Broncos. Wes had 3 concussions that year!! Up to that point, Wes had only 3 concussions in his previous 9 years in the NFL. This is not meant to say anything bad about the Broncos or Manning. But simply to say that protecting your receivers by avoiding certain throws and/or throwing low balls, rather than high ones across the middle was a conscious decision of Brady's and the Pat's organization.

Yes brady and belichick, to create consistency, decided to prioritize safety over everything else. Winning is probably second. I am glad other people finally are seeing why brady throws certain throws, takes the sack or throwing it away instead of trying to force a play, etc. Having a 165 lbs person block multiple linemen (tank dell) isn't probably a smart thing to do to avoid injuries. Having throws that put a player in any vulnerable type of hit, isn't smart either.
Throwing them low allowed them to never get hit with a full on tackle otherwise that would be a penalty. Throwing them at man to man coverage where they are both going at the ball (that's why gronk was so important) means that the other player will not go to them full speed run lest they hit their teammate. It's pretty much grab the ball and then let the person wrap their arms around you. Avoiding an idiot coming in full speed from a blind spot. Then we have the lovely throws near the sidelines which force them not to go in at full speeds because if you go out of bounds and are hit, that's a penalty.

What Tom Brady said has been happening in the NFL for as long as I can remember. QBs did not throw it in certain areas to protect their players and it said QB did throw in a certain area and the receiver catches it and gets hit sticked, the wide receiver usually goes off on the QB asking him why he threw the ball in that area because nine times out of 10 the receiver doesn't see the defender he's taking the quarterbacks word for it that it's a safe pass to catch. And this is another reason why when you watch a game and you see a receiver open and you're screaming for the QB to throw the ball throw the ball but the QB hesitates and scrambles out the pocket and throws a ball away and you keep screaming at the TV wondering why the QB didn't throw it to the wide open receiver, but what you didn't pay attention to was the safety right on top of the receiver closing in and the QB saw that and probably didn't want to throw the ball and get his receiver hurt. So covering the receiver isn't necessarily being on his hip, sometimes, it's the DBS job just to be in a certain area coming at the player at a certain angle is enough to get the QB to not throw the ball because the QB knows what the consequences are going to be

What's been weird to me is since they started playing "safety" football and bend over backwards to protect offensive players, they NEVER call a ball carrier for lowering their head and hitting someone while they run. If the defense can be called for lowering their head and leading with the crown, a ball carrier should also be called for that. The defense is tackling with possibly getting a penalty in mind, so they do tend to let up and not deliver the hit they want (should be) only to have the running lower their head and try to run over the defender.
What's good for one needs to be good for the other.

don't forget to mention those quarterbacks who run to the sideline and then try to turn up field for an extra couple of yards. This matter was brought up to the NFL, years ago because QB's like Aaron Rodgers were notorious for doing it and then getting upset if a defender hit them. When called out about the way he played, he said "I'm playing the way I was told". This put the onus directly on Mike Tomlin, and he was not the only one, remember the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal? On the other hand some of the hits that get flags are cases of asking a defense player to violate the laws of physics and momentum. I do not know the answer, but potentially the issue of CTE could bring the league down if they just pretend that it is not happening.

QBs did not throw it in certain areas to protect their players and it said QB did throw in a certain area and the receiver catches it and gets hit stuck, the wide receiver usually goes off on the QB asking him why he threw the ball in that area because nine times out of 10 the receiver doesn't see the defender he's taking the quarterbacks word for it that it's a safe pass to catch. And this is another reason why when you watch a game and you see a receiver open and you're screaming for the QB to throw the ball but the QB hesitates and scrambles out the pocket and throws a ball away and you keep screaming at the TV wondering why the QB didn't throw it to the wide open receiver, but what you didn't pay attention to was the safety right on top of the receiver closing in and the QB saw that and probably didn't want to throw the ball and get his receiver hurt. So covering the receiver isn't necessarily being on his hip, sometimes, it's the DBS job just to be in a certain area coming at the player at a certain angle is enough to get the QB to not throw the ball because the QB knows what the consequences are going to be I think it is also important to mention that he was attacking the ball with his shoulder! That is EXACTLY what you are taught. Lead with your shoulder and attack the ball. It was routine. If anything Garnder threw a hospital ball that compromised his WR's safety. I think a flag is understandable. Throwing him out of the game is BIG questionable. Suspending him for the rest of the season is INSANE I agree with you on holding QBs accountable. I also feel the get-out-of-jail cards might make a higher score but a much less exciting and boring game. I feel the refs get a bad image because they're constantly forced to make calls that are not clearly defined and change the definition from week to week sometimes. It's a mess and I find myself watching fewer games on TV and just listening to a broadcast or highlights instead because of it. I like how people are now realizing the highly paid, highly protected, most important player on the team has a responsibility to his teammates and not throw the ball in problematic situations like this QBs sliding late is also a big issue that I don't hear people talking about; why do we blame defenders for these hits when QBs are sliding last sec Everything you said and the comment section has got me thinking a lot about this. These guys are men who care more about pride than their bodies. I’m for a QB taking responsibility and not putting a wr in a bad position to be killed but at the same time, the league is full of Diva receivers who want the ball thrown to them no matter what even if they know damn well the qb won’t place the ball perfectly to their hands or chest. I can already create a conversation in my head if Josh Allen told Diggs nah man if I threw that safety was going to take your head off and then Diggs just starts yelling and spitting IT doesn’t MATTER IM OPEN! 100% agree. Minshew did his receiver dirty. Some times its drawn up and the WR or TE knows he's gonna get hit sticked as soon as he catches. But other times it shouldn't be up to the WR to make a "good business decision" about passes from the QB. If you can read a defense you can make a better throw than that or use your eyes to pull the safety elsewhere so that catch can be a safer for your receiver. That is QB play at its finest and only guys like Dak, Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Rodgers, Purdy are really capable of doing that

I agree with Tom 100%. Growing up playing quarterback, I was taught to stay away from throws that would’ve gotten my receivers crushed. Defenders have to worry about protecting their own bodies as it is, and now they have to worry about protecting the offensive players, too? Na, it shouldn’t be that way. Agreed, every player should be responsible for their own actions and hits, so should there be some sort of a middle ground here? Absolutely. We shouldn’t have major helmet to helmet collisions all the time. Maybe they look at a hit afterwards and determine whether the defensive player had time to make a different kind of hit, or hit a player in a different area of the body. Like a third option hit. So like you said, Mike, if the defensive player is left with only two options, he should be allowed to make the hit. However, if they determine that the defender had a third option hit, then penalize him. Idk, just a thought. It’s hard because plays and players are so fast at that level, but there has to be something better than this.

That spear on Dobbs was definitely brutal, but I can see Brady's argument. The reason that even happened was because Kevin O'Connel was getting too cutesy on his playcalling. It's his responsibility to not allow that kind of thing to happen in his plays. I would even contribute Dobbs' fall from grace partly to that exact hit. It's like it shook him up and he stayed leashed inside the pocket, but missed tons of reads all game vs the Raiders.
Another thing is that KOC was a QB, and supposedly a guru who understands that position and could communicate that to him. Well, he did an awful job. Dobbs threw hospital passes to both receivers weeks apart (KJ Osborne and Justin Jefferson).
Point is, KOC is in a lukewarm seat off scholarship from last season. Those 11-0 one-score games were a razor thin margin and his playcalling as well as decision making skills are blatantly costing us games. If the rest of the season persists like this, next year is all hot seat.

Dobbs fall from grace is that he has a panic attack every time a team forces him to stay in the pocket and face a rush. His hospital balls are ones where he threw late and off-target. KOC's main issue is his loyalty to underwhelming and underperforming high-culture players like Mattison, Dobbs, and KJ Osborn. Chandler/Akers, Mullens, and Powell have been outperforming them when given the chance, and offer more upside than their known commodity counterparts.

    • @LDPofclan935
      @LDPofclan935 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@baddadjoke2197 I said his was fall was "partly" to blame for that. Getting rocked is bad. Doesn't help when film on you shows that anytime you plugged the specific gap he had a tendency to run backwards. Getting sacked that far back made your star O Line look way worse than they are. Also seemed like he was leashed inside the pocket by KOC more than anything trying to force a dual threat QB to be a Pocket Passer in the Kirk style offense. It just didn't work.
And I only pointed out one thing of issue with KOC man. I can go on with this dude. You'll see me preaching it on channels like Mikerophone, that one Benchwarmer shorts dude, the Vikings Raider post-game speech video on their channel. Been saying that too. He admits Chandler is more explosive but starts Mattison because he's keen on keeping his word on him being their "guy". Yeah? Well, things change, and KOCs insistence is losing us games. Vs. Broncos, one of the worst run defenses in the league, Mattison finally has a decent game. The few times we saw Chandler, he diced them up. Then KOC runs Mattison into a brick wall 3 times in the classic Vikings "play-not-to-lose" loser instinct way and we lose the game. For any real contending team that would've been a cinch of a drive, but is apparently too high an ask for the supposed offensive guru KOC.
Dude, I know. Been seeing it, been saying it. His playcalling in the least is in question here. The telegraphing of plays (even the triple sneak and lose vs Cincinnati was telegraphed with Powel standing there with his hands up) is just God awful.
As for that Bengals game? Watch Browning score an undeserved payout like that Giants QB who knocked them out of the playoffs because the Vikings insist on making mediocre talent look like superstars. It was like KOC forced B Flo to switch to wide open gap Umbrella coverage with what, 1 Linebacker? Of course they got picked apart. God, he is the same shit different flavor. If he don't clean it up and grow into a more hard ass role and stop kissing the boo-boos on the hands of his receivers after they drop balls then he's hot seat ass out - but if he does, maybe this amazing team can go somewhere. Here's to losing a 7th NFC title boys.
Vikings legit could've been undefeated all season. Oh well, undefeated don't make a difference when you're one and done anyways. Curse of Ed Thorp baby.

The NFL has basically said that hard hits are no longer acceptable defensive technique. The refs could be more consistent, sure. There could be penalties on the offense too. Hey Mike, huge fan of your content. Truthfully I hope this gets a shout out at some point. But on to business. I can't say I agree with the NFL's decision as of late. Few reasons.
    1. Tom Brady is in my opinion correct. The NFL relies on the opposing team to protect the other while on defense. Which if you watch football as much as I do has resulted in so many big plays or extra yardage, first down situations. Scrambling QBs can tiptoe a sideline and you see defenses hesitate to hit them because they don't want the flag. Receivers go up for the ball and come down with it now because safeties had to stop their momentum (which I my thoughts would be considered timing and position to make a play while giving wiggle room to make an error but not give up a td)
    2. The caliber of defensive play has been awful due to the rules and anyone could see that with some simple research. If you look up average points scored in the nfl in 2010 you're going to find that between both teams the average combined points was 45.5 and yet in 2023 its currently at 43.4. Which will show it wasn't the hard hit or lack of protection that creates exciting games but the caliber of players. Watching players like Lewis, Lott, Reed, Lynch, alstott were the reason games were exciting and those are just few names.
    3. I also think the NFL and society puts too high a value on players and keeps them too long. No one should be playing after 12 years. That's so much wear and tear and dangerous. Look at boxing for instance. Studies show late term brain damage is due to getting knocked about for many years instead of something more simple like the ufc (short or nate diaz) where you take the hit and you're done. Idk if this will even reach you Mike. But I hope this does and maybe we can talk more. I'm open to your thoughts on this.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Happy New Year, and any other holiday I missed on here.

Funny, he brings this up now that he is retired. However, most of these offensive rules changed in the early 2000 while he winning superbowls. We seen players lose their careers just because they couldn't tackle without using their head or even because they couldn't horse collar. Ronnie lott retired almost a decade before he even played. Just because one of the best organizations in 2000s did things the right way other organizations didn't know what the hell they were doing and they still don't today. This isn't black and blue football anymore this is the passing league that's put Tom Brady in the hall of fame so he's a hypocrite. Steven A has been running with a narrative that players are soft since Draymond Green got suspensed because he does see fights in the NBA anymore. It's sad he wants a game that it obsolete.

He was saying all of this _while_ he was playing. Knock it off.

He had multiple of these penalties... one in every month. These come with fines AND A CONFERENCE CALL. The league literally explains why and holds essentially a Q&A session to try to help the player eliminate these issues. So at the 5th time in a single season this is what happens.

Football isn't "more exciting" because of scoring. It's because of the hits and difficulty to score. If you want scoring you can watch basketball.

The big hit also makes players drop future balls when they hear foot steps or when they anticipate the contact.

no good answer to the problem. either play to just down the WR or play to seperate the ball from the player.

Michael Pittman Jr dove for the ball which makes him the exact definition of a "defenseless receiver". Kazee has been flagged for penalties like this multiple times this season and although he didn't lead with his head.. He still put his shoulder into Pittman's head/neck area and honestly I don't see the difference between the head and shoulder on a play like this. I miss seeing the big hits we all were accustom to growing up and watching the NFL but players that repeatedly hit other players in awkward/unsafe positions need to be penalized because at the end of the day the goal is to go home to your family at the end of the day.

To piggyback off what Tom Brady said, I never played past high school. However, we also practiced protecting yourself. Good coaches talk to those things. They still need to be taught. I do think you can play within the current rules and still be a more intense player and have less mediocre players. I do miss a big hit NFL though. Players are much better protected now though.

Let me be blunt: the product provided this season by the National Football League is, by far, *the worst I have seen in all of the years I've watched this game.* It's not even close, and I KNOW I'm not the only one who feel this way.
There's a whole lot of factors behind it (man, are coaches TRASH nowadays...), but, hands down, the main reason for it is the referring. It has to be the worst in all the North American professional sport leagues out there, and, IMO, it shouldn't even be a close contest.
Something has to change: either make umpires respect the rulebook at all time, update said rulebook to help them out or built an AI program to ref the games (yeah, it will piss the old refs off, but 'don't care, it would save football as we know it!)
But I guarantee you that nothing will happen for the simple reason that there's absolutely no incentive for the Shield to do anything about it - American football is still the most popular sport in NA, and the owners are literally printing money none-stop. Why would they want to do something about making sure the product doesn't turn into *complete garbage* in the foreseeable future? Based on their earnings, people are eating it up!
Only way meaningful changes would happen is if fans actually start boycotting those miserable games, but that ain't happening any time soon, so... 'better learn to live with it, 'cause it's going to get worst - _way worst_ - before it gets better...

Tom Brady talking about the rules and the nfl and how one sided it is to offense of players is like Donald trump coming out and talking about the tax codes and exposing Hilary like yea Ik this rules are dumb cuz i abuse them for years 😂
