    You know, I've been making this style of skirt for years, and I STILL learned something. (It was the zipper technique, AND THE WAISTBAND underlap.)

    Great video. I'm a sewing specialist for WDWCC and have built some well-known characters. I find sewing in the zipper on a project like this is easier to sew in when the side seams haven't been sewn first. The additional weight makes the application awkward, but not impossible as you can see.

    For a more finished look, you could under stitch the pockets before sewing front/back together.

      I like to do that. But lately I've been loving french seamed pockets. I found a good tutorial for it and it's tricky to understand but worth it

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can totally do that! If you're going to understitch, then you'll probably want to take an additional step of pressing the pockets back in toward the skirt to create a sharp crease before sewing the side seams. The way I do it creates more of a soft fold at the pocket, which I personally like.

    I am curious about what the differences are between this and the Stanwyck when it comes to the fit and style. I know the Stanwyck was totally different pockets and is gored whereas this looks like its a half and two quarters of a circle stirched together.

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They’re both a full circle with 1 inch of ease in the waist but they have different style lines and design options. Stanwyck has gores, two styles of oversized patch pockets, three waistband styles, a bib option, strap option, and the ruffle option. This one is a very simple full circle skirt with side seam pockets and a 1” tall waistband.

    If I don't have a dress form is it OK to just hang the skirt on a hanger to let it drop? Also I find that the metal hooks and bars tend to cut through the thread and they fall off. Suggestions please?

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can hang it on a hanger! Then it's best to try it on and mark the hem (great if you can have someone help you with this!). As for the hooks and bars, what kind of thread are you using? I definitely recommend poly all-purpose and if you're still having the issue, maybe choose a heavier weight thread?

    Hi Getie, I have a question If your fabric has characters or designs when making a circle skirt the back will be upside down. How can you fix this.?

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The work around would be to separate the skirt pattern into panels (with seam allowance added) so that each panel can be cut with the design facing up. If you don't feel like doing that yourself, our stanwyck skirt pattern is drafted this way. charmpatterns.com/shop/stanwyck-skirt/

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We have two print formats. If you're printing on letter sized paper you'll want to use the "Tiled format." This will print the pattern out in chunks that will need to be assembled to get the correct sized piece.

    • @GertiesWorld
      @GertiesWorld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This denim is around 12 ounces which is on the heavy side, so you could definitely go lighter. Circle skirts can be made in many different fabrics and weights, it all depends on the outcome you're going for!
