  • TTWT used a chain saw to remove 30 year old Arborvitae and other overgrown shrubs, now it's time to rip out the stumps with our John Deere 1025R (turbo charged) and loader with the Heavy Hitch toothbar. Tractor Time with Tim uses Bolt On Hooks grab hooks to haul off the stumps. This is a cheap and easy way to remove landscaping without the need for a backhoe.

    Tim we're all grateful for the time you spend on your videos and understand when you just want to relax and do them off camera. Personally myself I enjoy your simple home projects the most, I find those videos very relaxing. I'm sure there's many of your subscribers who would enjoy more raw video, no voice overs or live commentary and just one camera set up for your projects you don't feel like putting on a whole production for.

    Just a tip for anyone trying to do stump removal in this fashion: Work with mother nature. Wait until about 24 hours or so after a heavy rain depending on your soil. If you do the soil will be much softer and save a LOT of time. But test the ground before going head first because you don't want mud getting you stuck or making you unstable.
    This is how I have been doing my stumps. Using an lx2610, a set of kens hooks, some chain and a piranha tooth bar. They are considerably larger than the ones Tim is digging, infact they nearly max out my loader just moving some around.
    Great video as always Tim! Just as you said not all of us can afford the extra cash for a backhoe, especially starting out when you can buy 3 or 4 attachments for that money.

    Just entered into the world of tractor ownership with a 1025R. I have operated many tractors and pieces of equipment but I was smart enough to know that on my size of property this would be the best bang for the buck. I have the bucket backhoe combination from the dealer and added the 3049 tiller and ran across your channel while looking for ideas on how to cut the pto shaft the dealer forgot to cut. I will be looking at all your content over time and thanks for being a part of the information dissemination system as we appreciate it. I also have been bookmarking your channel sponsors since I will be adding many things to the stock rig over time.

Great advice at the end about not needing to do everything at once also.

    Tim, I am surprised that the loader frame has not bent from lifting on the corners, especially with the increased hydraulic pressure. Makes me feel better about stressing mine with standard pressure. I have the tooth bar based on your recommendation and will be using it soon to break up an old dirt pile. Also, I have to mention this after listening to so many episodes, I recommend being more consistent with engine RPM when working. I normally don't do work below ~2000RPM. I will however leave it at idle when moving in and out of the garage or when turning the PTO on or off. Thanks for this video.

      They put the throttle on there for a reason. I'm gonna use it. :-)
      There are times one needs full throttle. don't be scared of it. There are also times that lower throttle provides more control. Remember, I have the HydrosPlus pump on this tractor. I won't need as much throttle to generate quick responsive movements.

    I think I am going to have to get one of those tooth bars. Looks like a game changer. My wife and I take on one or more projects around the house/property each week. We call them "our stupid projects". Family and friends even ask what "stupid project" we did last! Recently it has been putting topsoil along our new sidewalk. The tractor has been very helpful. Next we have to pour a concrete step to replace the concrete blocks that are our temporary front porch step. We just bite off manageable chunks of work and feel a sense of accomplishment as each is completed. We will NEVER run out of things to do. BTW, I just installed the Amp Research Bedstep 2 on my 2011 F250. It is a great step. Installation was a little tricky but it was worth it.

    I took out about 2 dozen arborvitaes with my 2025. I cut them about 5 or 6 feet up so that I could wrap a chain around the top of the stump and use leverage to pull them out. About 10 of them were 25-30ft tall.

    we bought a HH toothbar based on your review with Katriel. It didn't fit and I had to grind down the non-standard welding on the Kubota bucket. Fits now and works as well as you said.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. This would probably be good feedback for HeavyHitch to hear. Perhaps your Kubota bucket is shaped a bit different than most. Kubota has MANY different bucket sizes and shapes...unlike Deere which has a single shape across all compact tractors.

That will be the second job for it. The first was as a poor-man's-pallet-fork, along with a length of logging chain, to move the empty pallet that my new box blade and SpeeCo. Quick Hitch arrived on (where has this been all my tractor life?!?) using much the same technique as you are for transporting the stumps. Lots of new goodies!

    I have a backhoe but it would he a waste to get for 3 stumps. I don’t have a grapple because I don’t have a lot of large brush. I want a grapple! But the method shown here has worked for me using chain hooks and chains to move large oak rounds, stumps dug up with my backhoe, and small machinery. It is also nice to know the other methods regardless. Sometimes the time it would take to go get a dedicated implement would be worse than just using what you have on the tractor at the moment.

    I thought for sure that you would have bent your loader arms and or twisted your frame by trying to lift the stumps from one corner of the loader, especially that you have all that extra hydraulic power.
    It would have been easier if you had soaked the area with water first. Also try using a 12" Milwaukee pruning blade on a sawzall to cut some of the bigger roots first is very helpful. The dirt doesn't seem to bother the blade too much, if you want to later dig out the rest of the bigger roots it's a piece of cake.

    Seeing ya move those rocks reminded me of something that happened in 1981. I had graduated and started learning the plumbers trade. I was put behind a backhoe cleaning out ditches. (they wanted to start me in upper management but I insisted on the bottom) What I wouldn't kid ya, back to the story Every time this operator hit a large rock he would call it a sex stone. The first days I didn't want to seem extremely stupid so I didn't ask. Finally my 18 year old brain had to know what a sex stone was? He said "son it's a big friggin rock". I have both on my 2025R, not really a comparison, but if you don’t have the backhoe or want to spend the extra $$$$. I mainly use the tooth bar on the bucket for moving around gravel, topsoil and stuff. But it makes your bucket much more versatile. And with that said our 17g is a killer compared to the 2025 backhoe so each has its place. Cheers

    question from a newbie to the tractor community< does it take much effort to bend or tweak your boom arms? I see the twist while digging out the stumps, is that significant enough to damage your arms?

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are pretty tough. The easiest way to bend them is to drive into something immovable at a fast speed. “RAM IT”.
      Trying to lift heavy load will not likely bend them.

    I think the Bxpanded tooth bar would be better than the heavy hitch bar. The teeth on the heavy hitch bar seem to be too long and look like they sit to far below the edge of the bucket to be super effective. Good video. I enjoy the good practical uses of the subcompact tractors.
    I'm deciding between the "piranha" and the "heavy hitch"
    They are designed very differently.
    Why do you prefer the heavy hitch bar?
    Thanks for the "most effective and least expensive" episode.

      Easy to attach/remove.
      More aggressive.
      “Bites” vines, brush etc sorta like a grapple. Helps to pick them up.
      No holes to drill in the bucket.
      Don’t forget code TTWT.

      Thanks.
      I trust your opinions. I installed Ken's bolt on hooks a few weeks ago and am very happy with them.
      I will use the code again.

    Hi Tim. Can you recommend a viable cylinder alternative to a 2020 JD 120 r loader. I've got one that blew a seal

  • @RCPSU4
    @RCPSU4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know the not so fun way of removing stumps by hand. Even this makes me want to save up for a 1025R. Nothing wrong with showing a cost effective solution with a subcompact tractor.

  • @HomesteadEngineering

    Personally, I would never use my loader in this way. The twisting, jerking and high torques are going to take years off the life of that loader. For about $400 a day, you can rent a mini backhoe and take out every stump in the neighborhood. Probably even make a few bucks in the process. Just my two cents...

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very high in the front (35), very low in rear. Just enough to keep rim from spinning in tire.

    • @TractorTimewithTim

      Yes, several. Watch and listen to the point of the video. Seems like I can’t win.
      If we show the advanced stuff folks complain. If we keep it simple and cost effective, folks complain. Oh well.
