Glad this is the version without the laugh track. I watched it when it first aired. Few years later, started to watch it on a rerun, but they had added a laugh track, and it just killed it for me.
I'll check this out later... but I'm glad to find out that this is the non-laugh track version. When I first saw it, I missed the very beginning and one episode, but the show was so cute! When it came on again, I tried to watch it again to catch the parts that I missed, but I was so disgusted by the laugh track that I gave up on it. Part of the fun of the original airing was discovering the humor for myself, as much of it was derived from stuff going on in the background. I don't need a fake "studio audience" (ESPECIALLY one that wasn't there the first time it was shown) to tell me what's funny.
This is such a brilliant send-up of the 1980s night time soaps - such cutting satire of the memes and tropes with clever dialogue - it probably went right over the head of most of the audience, but that doesn’t detract from the wonderful work here. 👍👏❤️
This mini series was on in Melbourne Australia during the late 80s and everyone I hung out with was hooked on it. Hilarious and such a great cast. So many twists and turns it was amazing how it all came together at the end. Thank you so much for posting this.
My family came to Fresno in '89 and I am just now hearing about this show in '22. I've come to love the rich history of this town. That you for posting this little gem. Happy Raisin Day.
Came looking for this just now as saw Valerie Mahaffey in something else & reminded me of this - saw as a kid in the 80s in England & remember I loved it, but never saw again! Thanks for uploading
Fabulous! I remember this miniseries and it's great to see it again! The cast was great and it's so funny! I think it's great that they had Carol Burnette as Scarlett O'Hara for the masquerade ball as one of the funniest sketches she did on her show was the Gone With the Wind episode-"Went with the Wind" where she played the same character and I think Bob Mackie designed that gown as well! If you haven't seen that skit, you really should- hilarious! Thank you for posting this movie!
I can't believe someone posted this either this either!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! As a huge Carol Burnett fan I loved this!! You would not believe how many, "so called Carol Burnett fans" don't know what Fresno is. Thank you again!!!
You will never know how much I appreciate you posting this classic mini-series in it's full glory. I have a VERY difficult time explaining Fresno to people from other parts of the world and this epic cinematic classic has been VERY helpful!!!
When I watched this miniseries at the time it came out, I thought it was the funniest thing shown on network TV. It is brilliant and we are so grateful that you have made it available to view. Thank you.
What a cast. It's not as broad or cartoonish as its contemporaries like Sledge Hammer or Police Squad, but in some ways it's much funnier. Some of the scenes are absolute gems - and a particular standout is the use of music.
From my brother: You got up at 4:00 am to watch FRESNO?!!! How did you find it? Life is complete!! My response: Yes! I watched the first half, went back to sleep and just finished the second half. It was great. No laugh track and it was edited perfectly so you could watch the whole thing straight through without interruption. If you scroll to the bottom of the guy's messages there are many interesting comments there. He did a great job. It's all there and good quality. Yes, life is complete! Well said.
Thanks so much for posting this. I was just thinking of “Fresno” and did a TH-cam search out of curiosity... Wow, the whole thing! It holds up surprisingly well as a parody of 80’s soaps and TV miniseries!
I can't believe someone posted Fresno! I recorded this off the tv when it first aired in the 80s and it has always been one of my favorite shows. Hilarious. I lost the video tape years ago but here it is again. Thx so much for posting!!
I recorded it too, and eventually wore out my VHS tape of it from watching it so many times. :) I can't believe how many people don't remember it! Best thing that ever happened to the 80s!
I have to disagree with the beginning…I thought it was hilarious NOT a failure!! Literally just brought this up when I seen something with Charles Grodin(I loved him!!!)…I googled it & here I am!!! 😂🤣😂 can’t wait to watch it again!!!!
Thank you so much for posting this,I really enjoyed it : ) Such a great cast.Even though it's thirty years old it needs to be given another chance digitally remastered and put out into the world again. So much fun. Thank you again.
OMG I remember this so fondly! Favorite line: "My God you'd think this was ROOTS!" LMAO! It helped that I was into "Dallas" and "Falcon Crest" back then (shows you hated yourself for being so addicted to). I'm going to introduce hubby to this, who never saw it. Thank you for uploading it!
Thanks so much for putting this on here. Can't believe this series is now all but forgotten. Hilarious, and the cast is a comedic dream team. I've been wanting to revisit this one for decades. Much appreciated!
I've been watching TV since the 50's (born 1952) and Fresno is, bar none, the funniest film of any kind I have ever seen! If you lived through the era of night-time soaps, this parody is spot-on! Thanks glenh75 for uploading!
I'm glad I did Carol Burnett's search when it came to movies. I've never seen/watched this, before, and I almost choked on my dinner. The throwing of drinks in each other's faces also had me cracking up!!!! I'm still laughing and I finished watching the movie a few minutes ago. Thanks for posting/sharing.
While portions of the miniseries were filmed entirely in Fresno, California (just the exteriors), the remainder was shot at MTM's regular soundstage, CBS Studio Center.
If this were made into a BluRay transfer without the laugh track, I would buy it. But we do have Glen to thank for uploading this hilarious comedy mini-series to TH-cam. Greetings from Ireland. : )
I watched this when it debuted. I was a teenager, but thought it was hilarious! Carol Burnett and Terri Garr.....are you kidding me? Who couldn't laugh at this send up? I guess 'middle-America' didn't get it. Shocking!
truly a sad state of affairs when an obvious comedy is taken that seriously. This is hilarity and parody at its best. Thanks for having this! I had friends living in Fresno and they couldn't stop talking about it. laughing all the way!
Thanks for posting Fresno the Miniseries! I lived in Fresno when it was filmed and I was telling a friend about it. She is a big Carol Bernette fan and now I can show it to her! "Ewww - tastes like Fresno!!" (then, in my opinion, it must taste damn good!!!)
I can't thank you enough for posting this video!! I LOVED this miniseries the first showing! I rolled on the floor with laughter and still chuckle from time to time and. to this day, even use some of the lines as cliches! What a hoot! I even lived in Fresno at the time.
My mom and I would quote this to each other constantly; I still always follow up "Oh what a tangled web we weave" with "eh, Juan?" and frequently get "Number 1 With a Bullet" stuck in my head randomly. The decision to add a laugh track was so, so dumb; I cringed my way through that whole version when it was on. I mean, I watched it because it was Fresno, but still!
Glen H, you have done a masterful job of editing out the intros to Fresno and I'm thrilled that you have brought back this classic so all can enjoy it. Fresno has become a family icon and a must watch at least once a year. Thank you! And my family thanks you! el.
A lot from the 80s is back! "Wiseguy" (holds up well), "Stingray" (less so - wanted to be Miami Vice but didn't have the music or the great cast), etc. We've been watching a lot of old shows since virtually nothing new seems any good. We'll watch anything decent that isn't destroyed by PC crap.
I remember when this aired! My dad and I stumbled on it...LOVED IT!! and our family quoted it for years. We're from San Francisco. Why oh why didn't it succeed!??!! " tastes like Fresno!"
Thanks for Posting this!! I remember this fondly it's Hilarious now as it was then. It spoofed the night soaps of the 80's perfectly. I think the real soap dramas were upset and couldn't appreciate the fact the actors played it straight and not for outright laughs. It was like watching an extended Carol Burnett Show takeoff. Thanks again.❤
Just finished watching the whole miniseries with a friend who hadn't seen it. Man that was funny. Here it is, what, thirty years later and "I see it" with new understanding. The character of Juan ends up being the central person. If anybody has read the english translation of Antonio Maria Osio's "The History of Alta California", Rose Marie Beebe and Robert M. Senkewicz "Testimonios", or any of the works of historian David J. Weber: the deeper story of history, the people and the land will come to a natural balance. The conversation at 24:20 to 25:57 is actually the premise of the story. All that other craziness - just the unfolding of manifest destiny. It's funny as heck to see everybody with a drink in their hand in just about every scene. Carole Burnett, Dabney Coleman, and Charles Grodin: top notch performance - really hysterical at moments. Good writers and collaboration for this production.
I have looked everywhere for this and found nothing, I heard that all the tapes were erased or destroyed. I loved this when it came out and rewatched it today for the first time since it came out 35 years ago. Fantastic cast and funny as hell.
Ermagersh! I'm so happy you posted this!! I watched it when it was first broadcast and was not disappointed. I remember the commercials that aired for it, with Carol Burnett in the back of the station wagon instead of the limo...that made me want to watch it more than anything. Comic genius.
God bless you for posting this! I have wanted to see this for decades. I'm commenting before I watch, and I can't wait to do so! I have always loved the Central Valley and am currently preparing to retire there.
+Paul Wilkins Fresno the city is STILL one of the funniest things I've ever seen! What a slimy dump! Fucking police helicopters with searchlights circling here and there almost every night (except on Cinco De Yiyo) Last time I checked, it had the largest population of southeast Asians per capita of any city outside Ho Chi Mihn City (formerly Saigon)
+Paul Wilkins Carol Burnett has never gotten the credit she deserves for her body of work, nor for the unknown actors she gave a big break to. As Mel Brooks would say,"What a sweetie".
Actually, Fresno has the second largest Hmong population in the country and CA is the state with the largest overall population. Minnesota has the second overall population but I do recall that one particular city had a population of them that was larger than Fresno. Fresno has its crime issues (e.g. gang violence and auto theft), to be sure. However, lot's of "pluses" there including the ability to toss a rock and hit a great restaurant.
Fresno is Skanksville. I worked over on Railroad Avenue just a minute or so from Jensen Avenue. I called to have a pizza delivered to work during the day and the place refused telling me the area is too dangerous for their drivers! I worked at Reed Equipment, a John Deere Industrial tractor dealership (the yellow john deeres) I see normal-looking people on game shows and think: "They're from Fresno?! What the fuck are normal-looking people doing living in Fresno?!" Glad I'm the fuck out of there! Two biker bars closed after I left. That's how much I drank just to handle working there. I lived out on the Kings River at a trailer park across from Pierces Park. I see it burnt down. Fresno basically sucks the wad.
Thank you so very much. This show aired on Danish state TV (DR) in 1987 or 1988. They may have showed it twice, but I'm not sure. For the last ten to fifteen years, I have been on the lookout for it, but in vain. I found a VCR tape, but it only contained half, so that has really not been satisfying.
Ok, sooooooo now that we gone on and on about how grateful we are for glenh75 posting this movie, can we get down to something important? LIKE SAVING THIS RANCH!
I remember this from the 1980s, I thought it was brilliant then. It stands up just as good today as it did back then. Great cast too, oh and did I mention it was funny? Yeah, a real gem, extremely funny I loved it!
Teri Garr just passed away and nowhere does it get mentioned that she starred in Fresno. This is where I fell in love with her before she was in many of her other shows and movies.
Thank you. Love this! My family taped it the first time it aired, VHS. We transferred it to DVD, but hte tape was so old, it was really geainy and the sound was messed up. Thank you again!
I live in Fresno CA and I thought this was just so weird when they showed this on TV. I can still remember them filming part of this here in my home town.
I remember watching part of this when I was in elementary school. I remember me and my mama laughing when the box came through in the conveyor belt with the hat on top.
I’m from Fresno and remember the popularity or, unpopularity? that this spoof created...I thought it was funny, but it sure made waves in the community’s Good Ol Boys Club! They were actually afraid it would affect the tourism industry that is generated by the use of Yosemite, the Mountain Lakes, and their precious Spring Bloom Trail as well as the Grape and Raisin industry as well...even the Wine Growers were concerned! Lol how funny the city and county governments began to cooperate with each other instead of the sibling-like rivalry of the decades past! Unfortunately, what they should have been focused on was the growing problem of Gangs ...but the money’s and their focus was on a tourism industry that would have thrived had they only broadened their visionary scopes. Now, like many other places in the country, it’s not wise to cross certain intersections in both the city and the county due to Territorial Aggression by all of the Gangs...the most popular being the Bulldogs and their many affiliates throughout the county. Of course this is written with my own RETROSPECTIVE vision, which is pretty damned close to 20/20....The positive energy that was provided due to the filming of local sites and local residents was an uplifting and showing of Fresno’s proud heritage and the pride of being the melting pot of the entire State, The People Native to Fresno have long been the most diversely blended society with no animosity shown to our unique racial diversities! RACIAL DIVERSITY AND PREJUDICES Reares an ugly front during the 1980’s with a small Hispanic group called the F 14ers. The F stood for Fresno, and the 14 Stood for the last two digits of the postal zip code. They were young rebellious teens and 20 somethings,, and often joined to have a sense of belonging to something...many were from single parented homes, and mothers who were quite young and usually had themselves been kicked out of school due to pregnancy. For the lack of an educational focus, and lack of a moral or church background, many of the youth began to get into “mischief” ...then it evolved into delinquent behaviors with smaller criminal activities...then we began to see competitive practices and initiations...and true Gang-like behaviors were daunting the southeast and soon the Southwest portions of the city. An influx of Asian refugees were now beginning to show a strength of associating only amongst their own home country folk, and this began to divide the Laotians from the Cambodians etc....Racial wars began between Gangs and Territorial behaviors turned deadly. The North side of the city remained relatively safe and free of the gangland crimes being committed ...and then the forge of housing developments moving to the SanJoaquin River on the north and others to the West Of Hwy 99 Continue the spread of affordability that Fresno County has always provided. Yet, larger gangs began infiltrating themselves as the Southern California region became too expensive to stay in. in the 90s, a tone of Racially motivated killings from one gang upon another was becoming the lead regularly on the Local News....DRIVE BY SHOOTINGS ... HOME INVASIONS ...INNOCENT VICTIMS .....and the trends grew and grew! It was literally impossible to keep up with the stolen vehicles, the drugs, and the sudden threats upon Police themselves ...even the Chief Of Police began receiving regular death threats! But it was Chief Jerry Dyer who actually showed Fresnans the way to stop the Crimes was to stop the Gangs! He recently retired from the Police Department, which actually sent an insecurity through many many people living in and around Fresno. He was the one we counted on for news that was truthful...not hidden by politics! I have since moved to far Northern California, and the last I heard was that Chief Dyer was running for Mayor, yet I have not seen or heard any news in that regard. Part of me misses Fresno, and part of me longs to return...however, I’m in a community that’s quite small, but has very little gang associated people in the county ...we have one community that I am worried about as I’ve personally seen bulldog gang members moving into that town. Drugs are increasing like the ominous wildfires that have overtaken our county multiple times in the past decade, killing wildlife and residents alike. No one sleeps well on hot windy summer nights, and now even into winter, the smell of smoke is a trigger for PTSD!
Glad this is the version without the laugh track. I watched it when it first aired. Few years later, started to watch it on a rerun, but they had added a laugh track, and it just killed it for me.

Didn't know about the laugh track. I agree, so happy it's laugh track free.

It's even better when you have been through the neighborhood and know the area.

Thank you for uploading this. I remember watching this as a kid, and I have lyrics from the Number One with a Bullet song in my head ever since.
My family came to Fresno in '89 and I am just now hearing about this show in '22. I've come to love the rich history of this town.
That you for posting this little gem. Happy Raisin Day.
I love Fresno and the entire valley.
Came looking for this just now as saw Valerie Mahaffey in something else & reminded me of this - saw as a kid in the 80s in England & remember I loved it, but never saw again! Thanks for uploading
I don't why this show didn't become more popular , it was so funny. The cast was great especially Carol Burnett , Charles Gordin and Dabney Coleman.
Well, it was only a 4 episode miniseries.
3:10:02 when she tries to sit is totally something that would have been in one of her GWTW sketches from the show.
I was so glad, as a teen, to have seen GWTW before seeing the skit. That dress was probably the greatest sight-gag of all time.
I can't believe someone posted this either this either!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! As a huge Carol Burnett fan I loved this!! You would not believe how many, "so called Carol Burnett fans" don't know what Fresno is. Thank you again!!!

From my brother: You got up at 4:00 am to watch FRESNO?!!!
How did you find it?
Life is complete!!
My response: Yes! I watched the first half, went back to sleep and just finished the second half. It was great. No laugh track and it was edited
perfectly so you could watch the whole thing straight through without interruption. If you scroll to the bottom of the guy's
messages there are many interesting comments there.
Omg I haven’t seen this in over 30 yrs. very underrated and so worth the view!! 😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

...ok
@@brigala I remember it!

I've been quoting lines from this miniseries for YEARS since it first came out. The absolute BEST EVER!! Thanks so much for posting this!! (y)

Totally agree and have no idea why it wasn't considered the "home run" of miniseries. It still cracks me up to this day! Eh, Juan?
This is still such a great parody of Dallas, Falcon Crest and Dynasty.
I'm glad I did Carol Burnett's search when it came to movies. I've never seen/watched this, before, and I almost choked on my dinner. Pfooo! These grapes taste like fresno!

We watched this and LOVED it when it was broadcast originally but haven't heard of it since. This is going to be a huge treat to watch!

Um Fresno wasn't a failure. It was HUGE.
It was a minimseries.
It was always meant to be 5 episodes.
I truly enjoyed this presentation. Carol Burnett and friends were hilarious. My kind of humor.
Just finished watching the whole miniseries with a friend who hadn't seen it.
Man that was funny.

One of those projects Carol Burnett did for her friend Mary Tyler Moore (they were Saturday night neighbors in the 70s)
“The Raisin Queen” of Fresno. A brilliant parody of prime time soaps, particularly Falcon Crest.
🤣lol the guy walking around with no shirt hilarious
Thank you for posting! I loved this series. It's too bad they never built on it, but then again they only planned a miniseries. Great memories!
This is great. You won't truly appreciate Fresno unless you're familiar with the Dallas and Dynasty series of the '80s. It''s brilliant satire.
Thanks for posting this! I missed the conclusion when it aired! Wow, what a great cast!
Always loved this show , had it recorded for years. Later on in life, I learned that Rolls Royce had a lifetime warranty. Poor Charles lol
THANK YOU!! I remember watching it live and LOL until tears rolled down my face. Just drop-dead hilarious!
You're welcome! :)
I know! I rolled on the floor!! Still use their lines in conversation!
What a surprise! Thank you so much.As far as I'm concerned, this was no failure. You really are Superman. M
I remember the 80's tv shows like Dallas Dynasty, etc. But I never saw this one. I love Carol Burnett. This is absolutely comedy gold.
This is AWESOME!!!!!! A true underground classic!
I remember this from the 1980s, I thought it was brilliant then. It stands up just as good today as it did back then. Great cast too, oh and did I mention it was funny?
Yeah, a real gem, extremely funny I loved it!
Thanks for the uploading/sharing. Really enjoyed re-watching this.
Your welcome! Thanks for watch! 8)
Thanks sooo much!!!! I have been looking for this for so long!!!
I'm from Fresno and I laughed so hard looking at this but it's awesome!!!!
Teri Garr just passed away and nowhere does it get mentioned that she starred in Fresno. This is where I fell in love with her before she was in many of her other shows and movies.
"You should try this bareback."
"You mean the horse right?"
I've never stopped thinking about Fresno. I still hum the theme in the shower.
Love this , I remember watching this years ago, a great spoof of the prime time American soaps for the eighties .
One of Charles Grodin's best performances, classic stuff. It's a shame a better print isn't available.
Finally, something I can watch❤.
..and many thanks for the upload, a real treat.
Thank you. Love this! My family taped it the first time it aired, VHS. We transferred it to DVD, but hte tape was so old, it was really geainy and the sound was messed up. Thank you again!
You're welcome! :D
I live in Fresno CA and I thought this was just so weird when they showed this on TV. I can still remember them filming part of this here in my home town.
Thanks for posting! Not a failure, though. It is a mini-series; a few episodes and it's done.
Thanks very much for this. I had forgotten about it for years, until Bill Paxton died. I laughed out loud often today. and What a cast!
I’m glad this was posted. Not sure why “mini” is spelled “mine”.....but this show was awesome!
RIP Bill Paxton that was so funny when he was bragging about turning on Terri Garr
I completely forgot about this. I'll watch it again primarily for Gregory Harrison at his peak lusciousness.😍
Thank you so much. This is great.
Thanks for posting this:).
Being from fresno and never seen this but heard alot about it, im looking forward to watching it ASAP.
You know, watching this movie makes me tempted for raisins.
Fantastic. Thankyou.
Wonderful video. :D
came looking for this because watched Teri Garr talking about it in one of her memorable appearances with David Letterman, she may RIP
I remember watching part of this when I was in elementary school. I remember me and my mama laughing when the box came through in the conveyor belt with the hat on top.
Torch put you T- shirt on you're in a hospital. Bill Paxton LOOKING Good 😍.
Fun memories from when I was a kid. This was showed on TV here in Sweden. Nice intro. Still remember the theme music.
One the Acme hitmen is Michael Richards, aka Kramer!
That was so funny,I LOVED IT...THANK YOU
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
Welcome! Thanks for watching!
I remember watching this when I was about 8 or 9. The thing I remember the most is when the man got boxed up and his hat was on top of the box!
I remember watching this on TV the first time it aired. The opening scene with conquistadors has been in my head ever since.
Billy and Bobby Jo tripped me out. Every visit caused confusion
Born and raised in Fresno. The people involved in this show clearly had never been to Fresno. Fresno sucks pretty hard…way more now than ever
Thank you
Forgot how funny it was. Thank you.
