That one tear falling from Dan's eye is what got me. Such a heartbreaking situation for everyone. Especially Karen and Lily. And Dan can never ever take it back or fix it. That one tear was him realizing that. He screwed up beyond words. No matter how sorry he is, it's too late for him to fix this with Karen. This show is one of the only tv dramas I liked. Mostly because they found great actors like Moira and Paul to do this.
Moira Kelly and Paul Johanson were on fire in this powerful scene. Dan being the picture of a condemned man crushed by the weight and shame of his crimes while Karen in all her poise, serene beauty, quiet dispair and barely contained rage laying out the straight facts of her situation. Having to raise her daughter without a father who was killed by his own brother. That spit in the window was not only a stark reflection of Karens contempt for a man she almost allowed herself to fall in love with all over again but of how lost to Dan she and everyone else truly was, triggering his 1st suicide attempt.
I was about to comment this very thing. Paul and Moira are both incredible actors and it's their acting that makes this scene what it is. Karen is calmly talking to Dan but you can see just in her eyes that she is screaming with hatred inside and wants to tear his face off.
@Porque Depois When Deb tried to kill Dan in the dealership fire, everyone scrambled to protect Deb from implication of the authorities and Dan's vengeance. Even Keith who ended up being the wrong target. Dan's envy of his big brother and still being in love with Karen put most of his actions in the the first 4 season into perspective. Everyone else around him was being made to pay for his poor choices and daily humiliations. Only after the truth came out, only he is paying for his daily humiliations.

Did you not see how he gaslit Karen into believing her son was delusional? If he was actually changing he would have told the truth instead of ruthlessly attempting to get with the pregnant widow (for all intents and purposes) of the brother he murdered. It was disgusting.
Thing is he should’ve known that Keith wasn’t the kind of person to try & murder his own brother but like he admitted in the end he was always jealous of how Keith was a great, decent guy loved by all so at the first sign Keith may not be a good guy he believed it because it brings Keith down to his level.
honestly idc what Deb did. I watch this show once a year and season 3 gets me so much, but watching it over again I see how much Deb and Nathan were manipulated by Dan and he emotionally abused them a lot and controlled them. Deb trying to get out, he threatened her on multiple occasions. He did despicable things and I could see why Deb think it was the only way to save her and her son! My things is tho, so much did not add up with Dan thinking it was Keith anyway. He first thought it was Lucia and tries to choke him to death without actual proof but some blurry vision in his brain which is insane, then says oh it’s Keith being of a bottle of wine. It could only hurt Deb who Keith was trying to give a second chance.
