Despite everything I really love this scene. Dan was never good, except for his grandkids. He truly loved Jamie, Lydia and Sawyer.

He truly loved Nathan as well. As Deb later said, everything good he ever did in his life was because of him.
@@__Queen_of_Hearts__ Yeah, I think so too - he just didn't know how to be a good parent which was a shame. I think it was easier for him to be a good grandparent cos he had that distance when it came to guiding them - he wasn't the one having to push them in sports and make major life decisions.

@@adamjohanssonn He loved both of his sons. Remember how he drove Lucas to the hospital after the accident and gave the doctors permission for surgery. He loved Lucas he never knew how to show it because Karen kept Luke from him.
Dan really did redeem himself with Nathan at the end before he died but I never can get past him killing Keith.
Yeah!, that was big 1, I never forgave him for that aspect, but I mean he REALLY! tried in the end
Patrick Gaddis it's like you hate him but love him. he only killed keith because he truly believed keith was trying to kill him at the dealership. dan felt so bad after that when he realized it wasn't him
I know that I'm probably the only OTH fan who hated Keith and wasn't sad when Dan killed him.
Everyone acts like Dan was such a monster but it's not true.
Let's look at what Keith's done: Stole his brothers son, Ignored his nephew for years, drove drunk with Lucas in the car, sleep with his Brother's Wife, try to steal his other son, attack him at work, brought a gun to kill him with (even if he didn't do it), let Dan think that he tried to kill him, even though he knew the identity of the real attempted murder, start building a life with the woman his brothers in love with, and then flaunt said relationship in his face.
Let's review Dan's misdeeds: Dan was just a kid himself when Karen got pregnant and he regretted what he did.
He loved Karen and freely admits that she was the love of his life.
Deb got pregnant and Dan finally did the right thing.
When Karen went into labor, Dan was there but Keith was holding Lucas so he left. He kept a box full of pictures of Lucas growing up.
He was tough on Nathan, but Deb ran off and left them for another man. I'm sure Dan had some mixed emotions about that that he couldn't express.
He didn't cheat on Deb.
He told that woman that he loved his wife and was going home to make up with her when he caught her having sex with Keith.
Dan had a heart attack and pretended to be sicker than he was to win his wife back...though it didn't work out.
He hired Jules but Karen was the one who chased her away. Not Dan!
Deb tried to kill him and he was suffering PTSD. You can't tell me he wasn't.
He thought Keith did it and Keith was marrying the love of his life. I'm not surprised that he shot him.
Then he spent the rest of the show trying to be a better person.
He took the blame when he thought Nathan killed Dante.
He was helping Karen though her pregnancy.
He brought Abby a doll.
He rescued Jamie.
He did right by his grandson.
He killed Carrie.
He set the record straight when that girl lied about being pregnant.
He gave Mouth money.
He helped Hayley.
He rescued Nathan.
I honestly feel like Keith's death was the best thing that happened.
I only wish Dan had been forgiven a few episodes before he died.

No matter what he has done and how much we hate the charachter Dan is at his best with his grandkids... Shame the good behavior came to late
most def, he LOVED HIS GRANDS MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF/ THE UNIVERSE
At least he had people with him when he did finally die, people who were then actually sad.

It was really kind of Peyton to let Dan hold Sawyer. She probably knew it was the only time that Dan would ever see her. I don't blame Lucas for never wanting Dan in their lives. Keith was the only father he ever knew and Dan stole that from him. I only wish that Lucas could have come to some sort of forgiveness at the end of Dan's life. He had truly changed and redeemed himself in saving Nathan's life and Nathan and Haley both saw and recognized that. One of my favorite scenes is when Haley tells Dan that she will tell Lydia how much Dan loved his grandchildren. It was a beautiful moment of forgiveness and kindness. I just wish that Lucas had been able to do that.
If Dan's character could teach us anything it's the difference between redemption and forgiveness.
I'm glad Peyton let Dan hold Sawyer.

She’s the reason chad left the show because she got mad at the creator for making sexual advances toward her and refused to return and they didn’t wanna kill or off so they just wrote out their characters

The tragic thing about Dan is that he waited too late to fix his mistakes and only kept piling them on and ended up wearing this mask of darkness which began the crack after killing his brother and then we began to see how great of a guy he really was.
Dan was always a tragedy unto himself. From the moment he sat out the state championship game and when he chose the wrong woman when he got 2 of them pregnant at the same time.
That baby actually looks like Lucas ahaha. It's the face!
Dan was always a bad guy but somehow in the end, the writers made it so we hated him less when he died. Just wish Lucas was there.
Not hated himself but redeemed himself. He took a life, but saved a life. His son. Even his grandson at one point. Dan Scott may be the best character in television history

dan's storyline is the one of the saddest on the whole show.
having him kill keith was just so far. I still wish they had never done that. Maybe instead of him killing keith he just didnt save him and/or watched as he was shot or something to that effect. It would have been easier to forgive Dan .
Elia Simon I hear you but don’t think something like that would have been that effective because him shooting dan and killing him was what set him apart from everybody. like everybody loved keith, but I don’t think that they would’ve all been mad at him. 1. Because People hating that some one watched someone get shot is actually kinda hurtful like what is one supposed to do, and not everyone will be mad or hurt enough that he did that. 2. Because a big part of Dans guilt was that he killed his brother.
his redemption arc would’ve made him one of the best written characters ever if he didn’t kill keith

Am I the only one who is sad that Peyton and Lucas left...? I would have thought that they would want to bring sawyer up in tree hill surrounded by friends and family... Especially Brooke, who Payton said at the beginning of her pregnancy, would be a big part of Sawyers life

Alyssa Reagan I don't know where people keep getting the whole Chad wanting to leave thing because Hilarie said it herself that she wanted to leave because she and the producers didn't agree on Peyton's story line from that last season she was on and therefore they weren't bringing Chad back either.

The look Karen gave Dan when she briefly met his eyes. I have the same when I see my grandpa who murdered my grand mother. Great memories with that person you haven't seen in so long come flooding in your mind, but they always get overpowered by that ONE mistake the other person did. There is no hate without love.
despite everything he did the writers always managed to make me feel bad for him in some way. he loved his grand children more then anything and it broke my heart how they didn’t want him near them
I feel so bad for Dan he genuinely feels bad and to see him so excited and happy just to hold his granddaughter and to have that happy few seconds taken away and his face fall makes me feel compassion for the character. I just wanna jump through the screen hug him and say someone has forgiven you and tell him that despite the things he had done that I know he is truly sorry and that he deserves to smile again...

That little face paul makes when peyton says no genuinely makes you feel bad for dan, but peyton did the right thing by letting him hold her - because that way he knows what hes missing out on, and the life that he mightve had had he not taken someone else's, and that pain will follow him
As Lucas and Karen bumped into Dan, I was expecting Lucas to ask him something sarcastic like "How's Hell?". But nothing. Just indifference. And Dan brought it all on himself.

This whole episode, the last 2 episodes of season 6 were and are the best !!!!
I love Dan, he did kill Keith but that was at a time when he thought that Keith tried to kill him(Keith would've if Deb wouldn't have stopped him). That's why I just can't really blame Dan for what he did because he had a very good motive and he tried very hard to become a better person after he found out that Keith wasn't the one who lit the dealership on fire!

Keith bought a gun for the sole purpose of killing Dan simply because his feelings were hurt and he would have gone through with it if Deb didn't stop him to try to do it herself... so if you look at the big picture Dan might be a major ASS-hole, but Deb and Keith are the murderers(well, attempted murder...same shit).

I still can’t believe they didn’t bring at least chad back for 3 episodes in season 9. The one he was in, the episode where Dan dies, and the finale. After season 6 the show didn’t work for me anymore. Felt like a spin-off.

I was never taught how to love. He was the golden child. His parents shield him from everything and was pushed because of his talent. His parents let getaway with anything.

only because this is a show, but I ended up liking Dan in the end, like he really did redeem himself. he also protected Jamie and he even did whatever necessary to save Nathan. Say all you want about him but he did love his Grandchildren.

I know this might sound crazy, but despite that he killed his brother I really liked Dan and for me I think the reason why he killed keith was nobody cared about him he didn't feel loved from his family members and he thought keith was standing in the way of that, but still hate him for killing keith but the rest of it I really liked him this scene nearly made me cry and when he died I was really sad I started crying the end was beautiful I am happy he got to see his grand kids before he died. When dan got out of jail I felt so bad for him he just wanted his family back together

I love Dan. Show me a character with better a redemption arch/character development? And like it or not, he's where Nathan gets his quality to learn from his mistakes and to focus on what's important: family. Both by learning what NOT to do and by just having that innate quality within them.

Keith also tried to kill Dan, if deb did not stop him. We understand that Keith only wanted to be a father. But what kind of brother have eyes for his brothers ex wife? It’s painful watching your entire past now being ruled by your own brother. Keith could have gotten a life for himself far from Dan and his past! But yea. Only good thing he did was taking care of Lucas when Dan abandoned him! Other than that Keith want such a great guy as well. He was a brother who has eyes on his brothers affairs. Slept with Karen, slept with deb, yet putting up a perfect image that makes Dan looks like the demon and bad guy. But back stage Keith was never a good person.
