3 blokes in their late 50's at the end of a 3 hour show absolutely shredding it better than kids a quarter of their age. How did the 3 greatest players in rock end up in the same band ? Lucky for us they did

More even than that, the complete EASE with which they do it. None of them are breaking a sweat. All three look relaxed and just having a fun time.

This is the song that put them on the map. It was mailed to a Cleveland radio station. The DJ had to go to the bathroom so she picked the longest song. When she got back, the phones were ringing off the hook. People were calling in wondering when the new Zeppelin album was coming out. She had to explain they were RUSH. Her name was Deb Halpern. Also, the original version didn't have this first part in a Reggae format.

On other tours, they started the song as a polka.

Neil did okay on this song seeing as John Rutsey did the drums on the studio version. And the story goes that Geddy wrote the lyrics for this song (and all the other lyrics on the first album) in one night.
The following is an early version of "Working Man" with RUSH (and Rutsey) playing to a crowd at a Jr. High School in 1974:

Xanadu from Exit... Stage Left is an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE. They take you on a journey, the intro is a soundscape that creates such an incredible mood and feeling of wonder.

I agree...Xanadu from Exit...Stage Left. Also, Freewill, and Red Barchetta from Exit... are so worth watching. All spectacular live performances. A MUST see would be (I know you've already listened to YYZ, but the A Show of Hands, version includes an abridged drum solo that is one the best performances ever given by Neil Peart, the drummer. Here's a link....you can thank me later... th-cam.com/video/nl8W1DddK_Q/w-d-xo.html

Cleveland put them on the map, and these guys never forget the people who have helped them throughout their career. Donna Halper (a DJ) picked this song due to how long it was for bathroom breaks. To this day they still keep in contact with her.
I've seen quite a few bands over the decades and Rush has ruined live concerts for me, because nobody has come close to their energy and playing ability.
The only song that comes to mind that hasn't had to many reactions is Red Barchetta live from Exit Stage Left.
    Take care!✌

Of course Cleveland helped. It’s less than 300 miles by car to Toronto. Just as you go to the border towns in Texas you’re going to find a lot of Mexican food and influence. Then when the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame came in 1983 well that just started radiating a general musical influence that definitely went back-and-forth over the border. There isn’t a Canadian performer that I know of (that’s the key if you don’t know of them in America they couldn’t have gotten that big.) that made it big without USA.

It never ceases to blow my mind how easy they made this look. Alex is absolutely melting that guitar and he isn't even breaking a sweat. Geddy is doing the same to that bass, and Neil back there is beating the ever loving hell out of those drums. None of them look like they're working hard or even really trying. Absolute masters each of them, deeply in love with what they do.

As a "person of faith" you may find it of interest that Geddy Lee's parents were survivors of the Holocaust. They met when they were just teenagers in a "Jewish Ghetto" in Nazi occupied Poland (Starachowice). After being held (separately) in Dachau, Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz when their liberators came his father set out to find 'Manya' (Ged's mother). Of course he found her. They married and eventually settled in Canada. "Gary" was born 29 July 1953 in Toronto.
Alex's parents also arrived in the Toronto area, albeit only from British Columbia, shortly thereafter. Geddy and Alex met in junior high school. The rest is rock and roll history.

You cannot go wrong with any Rush, seriously. ... You may prefer certain eras more than others. I love it all because it just reflects a commitment to their craft and doing what they wantwd, even when it wasn't popular with anyone (fans included) So you've started with their older stuff, so I'd recommend La Villa Strangiato, Natural Science, Red Barchetta, Freewill, Limelight, Fly by Night.. Then when you are ready for some concept pieces, By-Tor and the Snowdog, 2112, Cygnus X-1 Book1 and then the second half of the story continued on their Hemispheres Cygnus X-1 Book 2. The last album they released was Clockwork Angels and is a full concept album. There was also a book released of the story. Probably their finest overall body off work. Sadly their percussionist, Neil, aka the Professor, passed away last January. He also wrote the majority of the band's lyrics, I believe 5 books, and is arguably, the greatest drummer of all time. He's always 1, 2, or 3 depending on the list. You should probably check out one of his solos also. Neil Peart. I written too much now so good luck on your journey! Welcome to the family!

Having seen them around 15 times, my only lament is I wish I could have seen them once on their early tours but, I'd have to be a bit older than I am, and I'm 52. I absolutely love how the three of them gel, not just on stage but, as collaborators when writing Rush's music as well as friends. Over the decades, Geddy's voice smoothed out a bit and didn't push the upper registers as often as their early days. One of my absolute favorite early captures of them is from the Fifth Order of Angels soundboard bootleg of the song "In the End" from their Fly by Night album. From the chunky sound of his bass to the power and hunger you hear in his voice during the countdown at around the 1:25 mark. Gives me goosebumps most every time.

If you want quintessential Rush get the “Exit Stage Left” video and the “All The World’s A Stage” album. I saw Rush live for 30 or so years. A fan since the mid 70’s. For the punch you in the gut sonic orgasm Rush (i.e. “2112”) you have keep before the “Grace Under Pressure” album. I know I’ll get hate: “Awe dude Presto had this song and Broken Arrow had that song.” I don’t hate the rest, love it. It’s Rush! But I’ve been listening to them a long time. Albums, concerts, playing their songs on guitar. C’mon “Anthem”, “Natural Science”? You can’t compare that to “Drive” and I love that song. Well you can tell my age since I use the term album, I bought my first house the year after you were born. The few songs that I did mention here that you may not know check them out you will love it. Now time for the disclaimer. That was my humble ridiculously biased dumb opinion that means absolutely nothing in the scheme of things. Enjoy God bless.

The Reggae part was not in the original, this was added for live shows, this is three guys from Toronto in their fifties after a three hour showing

How deep into the Rush library do you want to go? Cause like every band there are period. Mid 80's was more electric sounding, Early Rush was more Led Zeppelin, with their last increment it turns out heave with also a classic rock nod to those before feel,. Don't fret Neil is with us always along with is glorious spirit.

"orgasm", unless you mean he looks like he's giving birth to an organism, i.e. an alien embryo 😁
