  • An overnight hiking adventure to Panorama Point of the Main Range, Queensland. Camp was made with the Slingfin SplitWing (a modular tarp tent) on top of the mountain peak, providing epic views and an amazing sunset. Unfortunately sunrise was clouded in.
    I left my Suzuki Jimny JB74 at the end of Old Mill Road and hiked in from the Emu Creek valley via Davies Ridge, passing through Lower Panorama Point. I was joined at Panorama Point for the night by my mate Dave, whom came from Spicers Gap over Spicers Peak, Double Top, Mount Huntley and Mount Asplenium.
    Shot entirely in S-Cinetone with the Sony ZV-E1 (16-35mm F4 PZ), DJI Mini Pro 3 and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
    Some of the gear I used (not sponsored) is as follows:
    Tent - Slingfin SplitWing Shelter Bundle + SplitWing Floor
    Backpack - Wilderness Threadworks 63L Ossa (Custom)
    Quilt - Sea To Summit Cinder CD1
    Gaiters - Tas Gear Gaiters (Large)
    Sleeping Pad - Big Agnes Rapide SL
    Gear Storage - Orange Brown Packing Cubes
    Shoes - Xero Daylight Hiker Fusion

      Hey no worries - we are truly blessed in SEQ; any adventure you could possibly want is just on our doorstep! I've had the pleasure of visiting a few of the spectacular places you've been, but got taken out by a foot injury a few years back. You inspire me to get my shiz together and back out there, so thank you!! @@AaronGrayOutdoors

    We're you able to see the fireworks from there? Amazing spot for camp!

      Thanks. Unfortunately the mountain was surrounded in cloud not long after dusk so we were unable to see the fireworks. It would have been awesome if we could.

    Another cracking video mate. Shame about that white out hey, would’ve been a rad sunrise if the cloud wasn’t there

      Cheers Cahn. Yep, it would certainly be an epic spot for sunrise. I'll have to head back again at some stage.

    Which route up Davies Ridge do you take. I tried about 3 months ago and it was just too overgrown. Had to turn back.

    • @AaronGrayOutdoors
      @AaronGrayOutdoors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There was certainly a good cow trail to follow all the way up Davies. Once I hit the farm property at the end of Old Mill Road, I always head SE around the boundary fence and then up the closest ridge until you hit the true Davies ridge top. It was really overgrown after the floods last year but it appeared to have died off a bit since then and was easily followed. I hope that helps.

      @@AaronGrayOutdoors ahhhh mate that was my mistake, I went right at the property and then the long way up the ridge.

    thanks for sharing your hiking adventures aaron, especially in SEQ. ever thought about doing a run down on the gear you take on an overnighter, inc weight and also meals etc? i’d be interested to see this.

    Great video, nice drone shots, thanks for sharing! Greetings from the Netherlands!
    PS What is it like to have a drone to film your adventures? Is it fun? Not to much of a distraction?

    • @AaronGrayOutdoors
      @AaronGrayOutdoors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Greetings! Thanks, appreciate it. Yep, it’s great to have a drone. It’s enjoyable to fly and provides great footage. I generally only pull it out at camp so don’t really find it a distraction and I don’t fly it near others.

      @@AaronGrayOutdoors I haven't been since the new(ish?) ownership, and even before then it wasn't great haha. I'll remember to keep steering clear haha.

    Epic campsite! Thought you might have come across a bit more rainforest given the elevation, but nice walking anyway by the looks of it.
    Is that the first outing for the new tent?

    • @AaronGrayOutdoors
      @AaronGrayOutdoors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Lucas. Only two pockets of rainforest on the way up there. One that is gympied infested in the saddle before the climb to Lower Panorama, and the other that is covered in moss just below Panorama Point. I've had the tent for a while now, but that was my second time using it. It's great for weight savings but I do prefer the room that my freestanding Portal 2 offers.

    How awesome is this?! I was looking for a video of someone using the Splitwing. Imagine how stoked I am to find an Aussie video. And even from my adopted home of SEQ. Liked, subscribed and following to learn about more great hiking spots. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Splitwing, too. Cheers mate!

    • @AaronGrayOutdoors
      @AaronGrayOutdoors  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much. I really appreciate that. The Splitwing takes a bit of practice when it comes to pitching, but its a great minimalist tent. I love how light it is and the modularity of it, but I will generally only bring it when I know there's a suitable space to set it up. Otherwise, I will bring my freestanding Portal 2 which is more like a "palace" (lots of space and headroom) compared to the Splitwing. The Splitwing has lots of room (width), but it certainly lacks in height which can make getting changed inside, for example a challenge. Cheers!

    • @alwaysmushroom
      @alwaysmushroom 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's super helpful, thank you! I don't mind a finicky pitch but wasn't expecting the height to be that restrictive. Good to know. The sacrifices we'll make for weight 😂

    hey first comment! what's the price of the tent you're using?

    • @AaronGrayOutdoors
      @AaronGrayOutdoors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers mate. Fairly expensive atm with the exchange rate but it's $345 USD + shipping for the bundle (tarp, mesh body and vestibule). It's a great little tent for its weight, but I do prefer the extra headroom that my freestanding tent provides.
