When I studied at an art school in France, I kept asking about academic training in painting because our focus was so much on conceptual, my only teacher trained traditionally told me that I would need to go the “east” to learn them. I thought it was a shame, because we couldn’t produce works we could see at the Louvre that was so close by. Kudos to your school for keeping tradition alive. I wish I knew about your school earlier.
Exactly. The same hapenned in Brazil some decades ago. There is no place to learn to draw over here. But I think in Firenze Fine Arts School is still possible. Unfortunately, at my age, the only possibility is a free studio _ in France , Italy...
@@antoniocarlosrodriguescamp1497 actually there is currently a revival of traditional training in painting (and drawing). I am in the US now and see it happening here too. It ssems to be the same in all of western and central europe. A couple of years ago, there were still some art schools which stood out among this homogenous mass, but even those seem to have vanished - your art teacher surely knew what he was talking about! I think that it is fairly understandable, though, of course, lamentable. Here, to me, politics seem to matter a lot, because in some sense they decide about the nature of education for the next generations of artists. If the people in charge are unable to see the value of tradition and are unwilling to *conserve* its values (and this is in my eyes often a political problem more than an aesthetic one), then individual artists and individual ongoing artists can value tradition and reality all the like, they won't be able to find proper education which values what their leaders do not value. "Multiculturalism" is always one sided. Let's face it: conceptual art is the art form of the ruling class, it is the art form of leftists and liberals. The forced popularization of conceptual art is just another political programm, which is just as utopian as many others, and just as much in conflict with basic facts about human nature as other such programs.
Hi, I'm French and since I was a child I wanted to learn traditional fine arts but the only thing teachers were teaching at school in France was modern art. Since the advent of impressionism and modern art, traditional fine arts have been stopped from being taught in France. It's such a shame. I was feeling so frustrated and, later on, so sad about this because it was everything I loved, and in despair to learn. Not so long ago, I learned that we had the Bargue-Gérôme Drawing Course, which is a method created by two French artists. Fortunately, you can find a complete reprint of this famous, late nineteenth-century drawing course. The Drawing Course consists of three sections. The first consists of plates drawn after casts, usually of antique examples. Different parts of the body are studied in order of difficulty until full figures are presented. The second section pays homage to the Western school of painting with lithographs after exemplary drawings by Renaissance and modern masters. The third part contains almost sixty académies or drawings after nude male models, all original inventions by Bargue, the lithographer. With great care, the student is introduced to continually more difficult problems in the close observing and recording of nature.
