I would also love to hear more about how much some of these cost! Not wanting to divulge anything private, just curious about prices in different areas!
This is sooo true!! I've found with most things, life finds its own way. Takes a bit of patients and can be scary, but usually, it will be fine in the end.
I’m in the OC and girl... I feel you so hard on this one. We also have two kids and want to stay in their school district no matter what so we’re even more limited. But dang the rent is getting scary. We got lucky with where we rent now but if they asked us to leave for some reason we’d be toast. And there’s nothing to buy in our neighborhood for less than $1.2M. Umm what? I’m sorry? Is this a whole city of divorce lawyers and plastic surgeons? Like what do these people actually do for a living, I don’t understand 😂
'what do these people do for a living' has been my question for the last few years lololol. The average house price in my home city is over a million too and I'm just like wtf do these 1.5 million people do... I had a good job but could never have saved the necessary 20% deposit - that's $200,000!!!! Insane.
I 1000% can relate to this! I was born and raised in OC and the cost of living in Cali is absolutely unhinged on every level. Idk how people are surviving there. I moved to the Midwest in 2021 and haven't looked back. Honestly the best decision I ever made and I don't miss it all. SoCal just isn't worth it to me but that's just my 2 cents lol
The markets are crazy. I’ve been a realtor outside NYC for 25 years. When we get multiple offers on properties trust me it’s a process for the seller/ landlord to decide. Keep at it and don’t make allowances for things that are deal breakers. You should try and make a connection with the rental agents that work predominantly in the area you want. They can let you know before things hit the market so you can be first in.
The dark academia decor of your current place is something that I'm obsessed with! You should do a decor tour bc I'm having such a hard time finding vintage pieces in socal
The issue I noticed with my partner when we were renting is the leasing agent would casually mention kids even though we are happily child free by choice. They would go with other renters who had roommates instead of long term partners because they were worried we’d have kids. Our best luck was when we said we were roommates.
This just happened to my sis and I. Perfect rent history, great credit scores, and steady jobs. It was SO hard to finally find a place. Godspeed out there, lol.
When we were looking for a house we got outbid a couple times and I cried to my realtor about it 😅😅 but she told me “Girl, those houses weren’t your house. When you find the right one, you’ll get it, and you’ll actually be glad you didn’t end up in the other ones.” Wouldn’t ya know it, that’s exactly what happened. When it’s meant to be, it will be 🫶 Wishing you peace in the meantime! I know it’s really rough in the moment.
Here in Utah that's exactly how EVERY SINGLE RENTAL IS. You go look and see if you like the house, then apply. Pay all the fees including pet fees etc. In the mean time they show it too a hundred other people and they all apply too. They let it sit for a while and rack up app fees etc. then they finally choose someone to rent it too. I'm not sure how that is legal but they all do it. Sad I know. We've spent Sai much in fees we could have in had a nice down payment on buying a house.
Purchasing too! We own our home but when one goes for sale in our neighborhood, there is a line around the block on open house day and they always sell within a few days, usually well over asking. And add that it's 600K with 7.5% interest... I literally can't even.
Hi!! I found your channel in the past month and just had to drop this note that I am so thankful I did!! You are incredibly authentic and you have inspired me to find more of what works best for me as I have moved into my 30s -- from movement, to clothing, to friends and beyond!
Hi! As a 36 year old woman who has moved constantly their adult life, it’s never been more difficult to rent than recently (at least my experience here in Texas). We have had ups and downs with credit and income, and an apartment complex has tried to screw us (still battling that 😩) but are very thankful to have found our current condo amidst our struggles last year. I think that since you guys have some leniency with time, have stable income and credit, the right place will happen for you ❤ I have heard from all over that the rental market right now is nuts due to a shortage of rental units. I hope all the best for you and Drew! ✌🏼 and ❤️ from Texas.
Was thinking the same thing! That's an illegal rental for sure Making tenants bring their own fridge should also be illegal lol but apparently it's not?? Wild
The cost of housing makes me wanna cry 😭. We currently own a townhouse in AZ and were looking into relocating to CO and buying there would be ATROCIOUS because of interest rates so we thought okay maybe rent so we can see what we actually like (neighborhood wise) and the rent is like more than double our current mortgage and not much cheaper then just buying. We applied to two places and was ghosted 🫠. Which we're choosing to take as a blessing now cause we think we're gonna now stay in AZ. Trying to move is so humbling lol.
We went through all of this trying to buy our home in 2019. People were outbidding us going well over the asking price, or there were multiple bids, cash only bids or it needed a lot of work that would put us well over our budget. After 3 months, we changed up our search parameters and ended up finding something 3 miles from the beach and near major freeways. It was within our budget and allowed us to make some upgrades before moving in. Because of the area that we are in, our equity has really grown over the last 4 years. Moral of the story, try changing your search parameters.
I feeeeel ya. My partner and I just finished our housing search last week near Seattle (similarly bad to LA). We finally found and were approved for a place that checked most of our boxes…but the journey along the way was not for the weak 😆. Saw one place we liked at an open showing and they like sprinted out to go apply like this was some sort of game show. I just can’t with all that competition. Sign of the times I guess. But yeah, hang in there and pre-apply for all the ones that seem like they can be the one. But my god I hated having to upload the same documents over and over. It’s so demoralizing.
I'm soooo crushed for you over your dream home. 😭 The photo looked beautiful!! I hope you find the perfect home when the time is right! I really enjoyed watching this video and seeing the different kinds of homes you viewed!
Omg when I moved to WeHo, I viewed this studio that could only fit my bed and was denied because someone had put down SIX MONTHS of rent upfront. Like… if you can afford that, maybe don’t rent out the only affordable apartment in the area?!
Here in the Netherlands you almost always have to have your own washer, dryer, fridge and even dishwasher. I was kind of shocked when you said that 40 applications was a lot, I applied for a small townhouse and I got to #30 of the 730!
Trying to get a house in the Netherlands as well and my god... My boyfriend and I both have a fulltime job, no kids, no loans and we still can't afford anything :')
I find it funny that everyone is outraged that some apartments don't come with a washer/dryer when in Germany many apartments don't come with a KITCHEN! The whole kitchen is gone and you have to buy one, cupboards, sink, countertop, everything!!!
I was so surprised that she kept going on about having to buy a washer or fridge 😂😂 In the Netherlands we do get a kitchen but a lot of time without oven and no fridge. Who are these people expecting a washing machine, and, do you even want a used one? Washers can get nastyyyyyyyy
@@Heleen452 they're so heavy and big to move! In Canada (or at least Western Canada I dont know about Quebec/Ontario) it would be super strange to not have all appliances included in a rental unit. It's also largely the norm that all appliances are included when you sell a home. Ain't nobody wanna be moving a heavy fridge and washing machine they're sort of considered fixtures of the home
I think the difference is that many Americans living in rentals move every year or two and in Germany people tend stay in their rentals much longer. So having to buy/move all of that when you move every year would be crazy
You are correct when you mention “the perfect one” will come along even though it’s hard to always believe that! Don’t get discouraged! Keep looking! & you’re so lucky to be month to month 🎉
Carrie, thank you for sharing the realities of the bonkers renting/housing market in coastal cities. Crossing my fingers you and Drew find your perfect spot!
House hunting is such an emotionally taxing thing 😢 I move to Tn 2 yrs ago and saw 10 places before settling for what I’ve got now. I 💯 % feel you on the heart wrenching rejections
I would apply when sitting right outside the house. Also, working with a realtor even if renting. They often have access to homes before they’re going onto the market and let you know what’s coming up. Sellers/renters often are just going to look at the first few bids unless they’re all busts then move on to the following.
It’s great you’re staying positive. I’d struggle with the emotional roller coaster of applying and getting rejected. How much are the application fees? Is it refundable if your application is declined?
The audacity of these places to charge as much as they do and ask you to spend even more on appliances?! But I get it, having looked for apartments in nyc I experienced it too. Big city landlords have a lot of power and it’s so icky. Hoping you guys find your next home soon! 💚
Rosemead is pretty affordable and lotssss of Asian food you guys will love! Also helps that we're like 15/20 mins from downtown LA. Goodluck girlie pop 😊
Your story is definitely making me feel blessed that I haven't experienced this kind of competition when I was house shopping. Hope you are able to find the perfect place for you guys soon
I learned just recently with certain property management companies. They'll charge an application fee but for 30-90 days will let you apply without a fee due to you already paying the fee but not accepted for a place to rent.
I feel your pain...I've been sitting on a home purchase approval ( not pre approval)for 8 months,we have a sizable down payment ,30 day close easy peasey ,right? nope ... my realtor sends me the listings of the homes that meet our wants & needs ..i do a drive by ... then text him the homes we want to walk through...in 8 months theres only been 8 walk throughs....2 of those 8 were perfection....we put our offers in ( which is the asking price) and still did'nt get the houses....i'm getting freaking burn out already ...the high high from walking through our last home we're ever going to buy to the low low low of not getting it messes with your mental health...we need to stay in the area we are in for my husbands job.... if he were retired , it be easier to find a place because we wouldn't be locked in to one area ...but damn....housing market is rough out there ....good luck on your hunt !
I have had the most stressful time finding an apartment in DC! I feel you! Applied to like 10 apartments and was either not the first person or when I was the first they created a bidding war, finally was accepted for one today
Wishing you all the luck!! Something that really helped me was i put out my own ad of what I was looking for and I put everything about us on there and someone reached out to us❤❤
its wild how the housing market is now. we can't basically move in Vancouver because if you move now a 2 bdr is like 4k a month for rent. Also no one allows pets so there are like 1/5th the amount of apartments you can rent if you have one. It sounds like LA is the same.
How far from where you live now are these houses? (Not asking specifics, just like, how far from your current area do you have to go to get this kind of space?)
I’m still watching this video but I really wish you would have listed the price and location area for reference. I’m actually “possibly” moving to the LA area and really would love to know more details. Thanks for the help and feedback though! Anything helps 😘
I bought my house 2 yrs ago and I was the first person to see it. There was 4 people on the open house behind me. I fill the paperwork right there while people was going up the stairs to see it 😂
Re: The Shower door + Bathtub. I hated that so much when I moved to California. It just felt they were ALWAYS hastily caulked and just felt ugly and dingy. Hate those doors.
Yes it really is timing. Me and my husband also try to think that it wasn't meant to be if we don't get a certain opportunity at that moment. Often times later we get an even better opportunity. But i am someone who can really get frustrated if i really wanted a certain house or space for your company and we don't get it. Especially when i already pictured ourselves there. It's the autism that makes it hard to deal with things that suddenly aren't going to happen.
It sounds like why you have to do is look at places a few hundred bucks under the price you actually want to pay, and then overbid. Not saying that is right at all! Just my thoughts on what it might take to get a place in LA right now.
What does age have to do with it? It’s the second time that some variation of it has been mentioned-you’re young or in your 30s. Does the landlord see 2 35 year olds more “ideal” than 2 45 year olds????
They see older applicants as more reliable than 18-25 year olds. But if you’re “too old” they assume you’re not financially reliable because you “should be buying a house”
Its so interesting how different the places are in the US - the number of bathrooms, the walk in closets.. also here you nearly always have to bring washer, fridge etc
I hate to be that person and I’m not sure if it’s already been shared but be careful about taking video of people’s homes and then posting on such a large platform. I’m a real estate broker in Houston, TX and in my market, you need written permission from the homeowners to take video. Even if you’re not showing the address, it’s a thing here so you may want to double check how it is in LA 🤷♀️
I would go back 2 AZ if I were you and just come back to LA for the weekends or so..or rent a small studio or so only to record..this market in LA is crazy..this people must all be loaded..and writing an application ??to rent a house..looks like applying for a job..when you least expected it there will be a something popping up ❤
I looked at a house I loved but there were no lights in the bedrooms. The house was like 60 years old and they said typically at that time they didn't do overhead lighting. That was weird to me but still loved the house.
Aww man, so many nice places! You’ll find the perfect home when you aren’t even looking ❤ Rentals in Australia generally never come with a fridge or washer & dryer. I’d honestly be grossed out if they did 😂
That place without lights in the bedrooms. The grout in the bathrooms! Yuck! It was making me crazy. I wonder why the landlord doesn’t hire someone to clean these places before trying to rent to someone else. 🤪
Yup, same craziness happening here in Gold Coast Australia 🇦🇺 I don’t even e remember how many places I applied to and got denied. Then months later we got the best house I’ve viewed and the price was also cheaper than a few other worse places I looked at. Paciente is the key, but also checking the rental apps every 5 minutes lol
I would love to know how much these places actually cost. I love seeing places and prices. Thank you for showing us and I know you will find one when it’s right😊
I hope hope hope you guys are saving to buy your own place. The market is just out of control and I don’t see it getting better. Good luck with finding a place. ❤
It’s horrible everywhere right now. I’m in Philly area and it’s a cesspool with crime and trash but I’m still getting outbid everywhere I apply. I wanna leave this area but I can’t because of work.
Not particularly uncommon to not have lights in the bedrooms (at least here in MN). Every place I've ever lived has been the same (varying areas and age of buildings).
I’m watching from Australia and I’m shocked that you don’t have to buy your own appliances 😅 and also you have to pay to apply! Woaa Also, renting is so hard everywhere! I’ve been in my 1 bedroom apartment for 1.5 years and when I was looking at places it was insane! I saw a place where I had to queue (yes queue) with other like 20 something people for a 1 bedroom apartment 😣 madness. One last thing, I feel like agencies lie with their photos, you get to excited for a place and go and see it and it waaaay different haha specially when it come to sizes 😔
I hate glass doors too that are in bathrooms,I remember the one apartment my family lived in when I was little had one and I had walked into the glass door because i wasn’t used to it lol
my dream of living in a city like LA will just have to be on hold until the economy gets better cause i refuse to put myself through that. ill be in my small town era for now😂
I'm not sure if you're willing to move outside of LA County, but I'm in riverside and I have a 1bdm 1bth with washer dryer, assigned parking, appliances and includes water/sewage for $1600/m. This is rhe average for my area, and the 2bdm are $2300 in my complex. This seems to be the average in my area (riverside/corona) but I'm also only a 30mins drive to Disneyland, 20mins drive to Yorba Linda, etc etc. It gets hot but it's worth it financially imo
I’m kind of confused so are you currently renting a house and wanting to find a new house to rent? For some reason I thought ya’ll lived in an apartment and when you showed your patio recently it threw me off. I guess that makes sense but it wasn’t the first thing I thought of when you mentioned renting a place. Love the videos! ❤
You need to get out of LA county. Everything there is super expensive. We live on the boarder of LA county , in the IE and where we live is still expensive. You need to go more Inland.

its wild how the housing market is now. we can't basically move in Vancouver because if you move now a 2 bdr is like 4k a month for rent. Also no one allows pets so there are like 1/5th the amount of apartments you can rent if you have one. It sounds like LA is the same.
Carrie I miss you! Hope you’re doing well!
How far from where you live now are these houses? (Not asking specifics, just like, how far from your current area do you have to go to get this kind of space?)
Ugh, and that application money each time 😞 I feel like some of those are scams...
I'm sorry y'all are having so much trouble. It's all about timing and finding the right place.
Yes it really is timing.
Me and my husband also try to think that it wasn't meant to be if we don't
get a certain opportunity at that moment.
Often times later we get an even better opportunity.
But i am someone who can really get frustrated if i really wanted a certain house
or space for your company and we don't get it.
Especially when i already pictured ourselves there. It's the autism that makes it
hard to deal with things that suddenly aren't going to happen.
You may have already gotten their permission and in that case, I’ll hush 😅
No she doesn’t. Go learn the 1st amendment. 🤡🤡🤡🤡
I would watch an entire channel of just you vlogging open houses lol -- give us all the house content!
Home #7 reminds me of Alexa's place.
Are you open to buying? Or strictly renting?
I would go back 2 AZ if I were you and just come back to LA for the weekends or so..or rent a small studio or so only to record..this market in LA is crazy..this people must all be loaded..and writing an application ??to rent a house..looks like applying for a job..when you least expected it there will be a something popping up ❤
Beaumont is a nice new developing area, closer to Palm Springs which I heard is the best place to thrift!
I looked at a house I loved but there were no lights in the bedrooms. The house was like 60 years old and they said typically at that time they didn't do overhead lighting. That was weird to me but still loved the house.
Aww man, so many nice places! You’ll find the perfect home when you aren’t even looking ❤
Rentals in Australia generally never come with a fridge or washer & dryer. I’d honestly be grossed out if they did 😂
Whatever will be, will be!!! Sending good vibes to you and Drew!
How frustrating but definitely don't settle. You will find something when the time is right. I also hate tubs with glass doors. No thanks!
Have you thought about moving somewhere completely new? Raleigh NC is amazing=)
LA and North Carolina aren't comparable. 😅
LA has lots of studios and has the entertainment industry.
I grew up in LA but lived in Durham for five years. I loved the triangle so much. If my family were closer we would’ve stayed there for sure
When I was looking for my home, the market was the same way. Also my budget range would have only 1, 2 new houses every month.
Isn’t buying even worse though cause you’re over paying? We can’t win out here in these big cities lol
It’s horrible everywhere right now. I’m in Philly area and it’s a cesspool with crime and trash but I’m still getting outbid everywhere I apply. I wanna leave this area but I can’t because of work.
if you’re willing to go south (Laguna Beach area) you’ll have no trouble finding a rental with very little competition!
Not particularly uncommon to not have lights in the bedrooms (at least here in MN). Every place I've ever lived has been the same (varying areas and age of buildings).
I wish you'd come back with your weekly vlogs 😢
I’m watching from Australia and I’m shocked that you don’t have to buy your own appliances 😅 and also you have to pay to apply! Woaa
Also, renting is so hard everywhere!
Girl I feel you so hard on this rn 😭
Random question but what does drew do?
I hate glass doors too that are in bathrooms,I remember the one apartment my family lived in when I was little had one and I had walked into the glass door because i wasn’t used to it lol
Buyers are buying site unseen like never b4
my dream of living in a city like LA will just have to be on hold until the economy gets better cause i refuse to put myself through that. ill be in my small town era for now😂
Maybe that just is the universe telling you to stay where you are ?? I could be wrong though. Do what makes you happy 😆
we are also looking right now and rent is soo expensive in LA 😫what is the average price youre seeing for places like this?
In Australia we have to buy our own fridge, washing machine, dryer etc
Is it normal in the US to have a fridge already in a rental? 😮 in aus it’s always byo fridges + washer/dryers
Yep that’s normal in the states !
Where are you finding the listings?
we found all of these places on Zillow!
Crazy what landlords can get away with considering their jobs are literally to do nothing and make someone else pay their mortgage 🙄
Just to echo what some others are saying but if you're comfortable with it, hearing prices would be much appreciated!
How can they show the place before the tenant has moved out?
Not having washer and dryers and fridges in a rental is crazyyyyy 😮
That is a crazy rental market wth
I’m kind of confused so are you currently renting a house and wanting to find a new house to rent? For some reason I thought ya’ll lived in an apartment and when you showed your patio recently it threw me off. I guess that makes sense but it wasn’t the first thing I thought of when you mentioned renting a place. Love the videos! ❤
in another vid she said some of the reasons. the area they're in, loud neighbors and other reasons. maybe to be closer to certain things
We rent an apartment, but it has a private patio! It’s been sooo nice!!
I wish you could vlog more. I miss your vlogs❤
You need to get out of LA county. Everything there is super expensive. We live on the boarder of LA county , in the IE and where we live is still expensive. You need to go more Inland.
Looking for a place to experience comfort is awful I’m here with ya 😅
Also bring your own fridge seems crazy to me
@@deidref96RIGHT?!? I thought that was so strange but apparently it’s super normal in this part of town!
What is the Range of rents please from.........to .................. Thanks!
I would imagine places this size probably get rented to families with children
Wow, that would worry me that they had the lights covered with plastic. I would assume there is a problem with that circuit or something. 😬
