hi carrie-- regarding marriage, i used to be kinda against it or at least think it was pretty silly. but as i've gotten older i've realized there are a lot of benefits to it. taxes is the most obvious but another big thing is social security. obviously no one wants to think about this, but if y'all stay together and one of you eventually dies, you will not be able to collect the others social security. however, if you were married for at least 10 years (even if you got divorced) you could collect the others social security. if you bought property together, getting married would also make things way easier if you ended up splitting up or one of you died (you can create a contract for this though). not being married also creates other challenges if one of you became very sick, as far as making care decisions. no one wants to think about this stuff because it's all sad and awful but it's life. so just something to consider.. i assume a lot of people just ask you this because of the *wedding* part of marriage/thinking it totally changes your relationship but there's a lot of boring legal benefits of marriage lol.
This!! People always say, “oh it’s just a piece of paper. We don’t need it.” But that piece of paper provides so many legal benefits in times of trouble 😕
I'm not sure about every state in the U.S., but in some states you can fill out Healthcare Power of Attorney (HCPOA) paperwork and have it notarized in order to become the legal decision-maker for your significant other (even if you're unmarried), or anyone else for that matter, should that person become unable to make or verbalize healthcare decisions for his/her own care. It can be filled out for a friend, family member, or anyone else who wants you to be their healthcare representative/decision-maker should they become incapacitated. As far as I understand, marriage (in the U.S. at least) only really provides tax benefits if each person is in a different tax bracket. The person making a significant amount less than his/her spouse will help bring the other person's income down to a lower tax bracket which will equate to paying less in tax money if taxes are filed jointly.
I think in Canada, most of these things are accessible to people who are considered common law. So I think it's possible without marriage! But I could be wrong
Doesn't help for this trip since it's too late, but when you're traveling and have a bunch of sweaters/jackets that are bulky, I'd really recommend picking up some vacuum bags that just have a pump you can bring with. It really cuts down on the bulk of things that are mostly just air.
@@emilyjohnson7496 Just bring the pump with you, they're usually pretty small, something like the size of a bicycle pump. Easily fits in an average suitcase.
Even if your flight is delayed, you should always still go to the airport for the original scheduled time! Sometimes delays can be changed and moved up sooner and they won't always wait for you.
20:11 - I am now 35 and a divorced woman at 30. I am constantly struck with societal standards regarding marriage. My first marriage was really hard and well, I don’t need to get into it, but after ten years I woke up and got out of an unhealthy relationship (and yes, we tried to ‘work on it’ a few times). Anyway, I am in a very fulfilling and healthy relationship now, and it feels like we always get side eyed for not having gotten married yet. My sister moved to London from the US on a Global Talent Visa. It was always her dream to move to England....and she was granted the talent visa. However....she moved back to the US after less than 2 years because even with her 6 figure salary...it was just too expensive for her to live there comfortably on her own and she said the taxes were a nightmare...they took so much money out which goes to the royal family and all that and it just blew her mind how she felt "poor" making the money she was a year and it still felt like it wasn't enough. She moved back home and is making nearly double here in SoCal than she was in the UK (working for the same company this entire time by the way). It's not easy at all.....she went through a lot to get that visa approved so for her to move back so quickly...it really showed me that it's a lot harder than it seems to live there even though it's a beautiful place to visit. She lived in San Francisco and NYC too before moving to London and said London by far was the most expensive for her. On the other note....my boyfriend and I never really fight either. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think people in healthy stable respectful relationships shouldn’t be having big knock down drag out fights. I think that level of like disrespect and anger toward your partner isn’t healthy. Yeah you can get mad and have arguments and disagreements, but screaming at and insulting someone you’re supposed to love is not healthy imo. Like respectful partnerships should be talking things out
I’m not sure if you wouldn’t be able to do what you do on a six month visa. He would not be taking jobs away from any Britain’s, and that’s kind of the purpose of not working so far as ther countries are concerned. You might wanna double check if you haven’t already. When you are in the UK, you are working already. That’s why we get all the great footage from the UK.
I've always wanted to live in London as well but there gun laws are so strict that my husband would have to sell I'd say about 95% of the guns he owns. Also we realized that we love where we currently live. We have so many great friends and chosen family that it wouldn't make sense for us to move. If we do move we wanna move to the New England area. As for marriage my husband and I got married half because it was something we both wanted and it was the only way I could get on his insurance and get back on medications and treatment for my schizophrenia. For TS and Kelce... I hope they're both happy but has a football fan it gets soo annoying when the broadcasters cover them more thanthe actual game and its gotten to the point where if the Cheifs are playing we won't watch them.
The gunlaws are strict throughout Europe, because we dont need them. The level of violence is extremely low, crime levels in general is much lower, because we are more equal, classwise. We do have poor people, homeless and the like, but no where near the levels in America and it breeds less crime. You would'nt need all the weaponry to live here.
@@louiseerbslisbjerg7854my husband collects guns to shoot at the range. The only guna he has out and about for self defense are a couple pistols. When I first moved into my flat in London, for the first year there was a dog downstairs who no joke, barked for HOURS on end. My son is married to an English girl and has 2 sons with her, their children have duel citizenships & it’s not easy for him. Once he gets his citizenship, he can’t have a job where he works out of-the country. No, it’s not easy!
Like respectful partnerships should be talking things out
💯💯
Come to Ireland 🇮🇪🍀
Im Austalian, he is from Northern Ireland. We would not have got married if immigration wasn't so old school.
I married my husband so I get to pull the plug... kinda kidding but I wanted to make sure I can legally get in the room and his parents can't stop me
I feel like i should just donate you my British passport at this point
Omg am I the first comment? :)
Aren't you not interested in coming to latin America? There are solo many beautiful countries to visit and it would be cheaper than europe 😂
And sure you might have less crime, but you also have less people than the United States. Yall countries aren't perfect either. Germany has a rising Neo nazi problem. Italy has far right conservatives in power.
@@DanceLouisDance who has less people? Europe with about 1M citizens? also, why does it matter? do you all live in the same city or are you spread out throughout a big ass territory?
I remember when you lived at that flat with all those loud neighbours, theres nothing worse than your safe space being constantly disturbed!!! When I first moved into my flat in London, for the first year there was a dog downstairs who no joke, barked for HOURS on end. I'm talking like.. 2-6am.... it was torture... we constantly told the council but they had to come over to listen to the dog to verify the dog was actually barking and of course it would stop by the time they got there.. or they didn't think it was that bad!? And we were like how about you sit in a quiet flat and listen to a dog yelp all day then!!🥲
