couple of quick notes to everyone:) the rounded handle on the custom is a one off, most others will be squared off like the original. The weight difference is from the massive internal lightening pockets. The first batch of Kawaiback was .250 thick ti, now they are .188 thick.
I always liked the first gen Kawaiback but that second gen is a real gem. I love how he softened the edge of the second gen! Deferentially on the want list......someday!
I want thank you Jim & Jake for this review it helped tremendously and I'm so happy with the end results I think your mtd-tech is great in cost very affordable and also I think you will compete with Strider and Reeve in that arena of mid techs very well done may God bless you guys, Sincerely Smitty
Great review as always!! Don't know what you paid for your custom but my Kwaiback which should be at my door in a week or two only cost $50-$100 more then what's be charged for the mid-tech :)
I'm gonna go on record right now that if I win your giveaway for the 1st run, after I get my 2nd run I will auction off whichever I prefer less and donate all the proceeds to something awesome.
i have many knives and i seem to be interested in certain knives at certain times and i am in the hoback kwaibacks at the moment but anyway do you know why kwaibacks have a upswept blade?
So are the kwaiback knives that are in the 750 range midtech I'm in the market and would like to know cause they don't have flat head screws but they also don't have a custom pivot
Got it thank you grate vids btw you I blame you for moving me from the sabenza and the xm18s to the custom world really grate vids and I wish you luck on your knife making journey
One thing you said bothered me "titanium backspacer would cost alot more" . Is 10 bucks alot to you? ....maybe not even 10 bucks of titanium. I did 7 paramilitary 2 clips of titanium with 55 dollars worth of titanium.
the aggressive rear gimping on the mid tech…Not sure i dig that as much…..kinda breaks the flow of the design. I do prefer the flathead accessible pivot though. Hope Mr. Hoback's axe logo makes it on the there….as it actually looks awesome, and he does them at a scale that doesn't overbear the blade or frame. Regarding the pricing….from my searches…..the customs went up significantly once the word on a good thing got out there. Thank you for this preview El Captain Skelly. :D
I missed it, R these productions hand ground, or machine or fixture ground, doesn't matter really, just curious. Way worth the $…Like a CRK or Strider, but I think cooler looking.
How much does a pivot pin cost, like $5?, but the coin option, or flat head cut for me is way better, cause in the middle of The Sierra's there ain't no screw drivers(usually). I like the production better. Maybe he will make Ti spacers available?
I wish some of these custom guys would just do an email list. I really don't want to have to check Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc to be up on new releases. Who has time for that? Ain't nobody got time for that! Just set up an email list people!
@Jim Skelton meant masses but I am sure some asses did get in on it. I mean we are both on the list right?!? @Jake Hoback is that something that changed?? I thought the email said it was going to be cpm 154
Great vid Jim. I am ancy as can be for my midtech. As soon as he released to theasses that he was doing a midtech I sent him an email. Already paid my deposit, now the true waiting game begins. No to figure out what to sell to make room for it...... hmmmmm
NewToKnives All I can say is that I paid a CONSIDERABLE amount more for my Kawaiback then you guys are talking about. LOL. I could only go off of what I paid.
And ps , I like hard use knives. I like 3v. I love fixed blades. This is a grail knife for me. Strait up, this and a rock stead. Function over look for my personal taste. I wish to have this one day. Oh and I emailed him and begged. Also didn't work. Se la vie
sickjohnson It is the only thing bothering me. I see "religion", together with "government", as the two big cancer tumors of this planet. But I couldn't pass this opportunity. It will be my first midtech and my first 400+ USD knife. Jake was one of very very few custom knifemakers who actually responded to questions/emails from me and one of even fewer makers who could and wanted to make it tip-down carry for me. So I have no respect for religion, but a shitload respect for Jake. Kind infidelic regards from Amsterdam
JDYTC sickjohnson I'm firmly in the infidel camp with you guys, but I constantly try to remind myself that there are two major religious types: the kind that want to push it on others and make laws based on their faiths, and the kind that just do right by their beliefs and generally think that government and religion have no business together (and often that gov't has no business many other places either). I can say without a doubt from my own interactions with Jake that he is the latter, and therefore great people in my book. I just happens that my mother was religious, and really liked the Psalms markings, so seeing one on my edc will remind me of her as a nice bonus.
Casey Bennett Like I already stated, Jake is the nicest guy ever. And I meant my diagnosis concerning the two tumors as two separate evils. I'm a libertarian. www.georgeoughttohelp.com/ beyonddemocracy.net/
Tried to get on the list, didn't happen. Tried to buy.... Never. I honestly have been upset for quite a long time about this, i just can't get it, I can't buy it. I was on the secondary list, never got an email saying I could buy it. I got the sorry email. Super Lamo.
Blade steel on the midtech will be CPM S35VN boys:)
Jim and Jake, you're all around nice dudes. I wish there were more like you two.
Thanks!
Great video Jim...as usual! Thanks for the honorable mention. Can't wait to check this one out.

Is that a zero grind on the contoured custom? I love how there is no real visible secondary edge!
Awesome vid man, I can't belive I missed his first run, but thank's to you I'm now on his second list! Thank You Sir!
Can't wait for my midtech, already got my deposit in and ready for the 1st run to ship! Another fantastic video Jim!
I'm on the list for his second run mid tech, he mentioned something about dlc coating, so we'll see, I'm super super excited ! Thanks for the vid Jim
I was on the backup list but got an email today saying that my spot was open and ready! So excited
This will be my first midtech, my first 400+ USD knife. I am freaking excited.
Kind regards from Amsterdam
I always liked the first gen Kawaiback but that second gen is a real gem. I love how he softened the edge of the second gen! Deferentially on the want list......someday!
I can't wait for the next run of midtechs, there's no way I'm missing it now that I've seen these.. They're amazing!
I'm sold! Add it to my list of knives I "don't need" according to my wife and definitely can't afford but have to have.lol
This vids killing me, watched it a few times! Can't wait to get the midtech! Keep the great vids coming!
I want thank you Jim & Jake for this review it helped tremendously and I'm so happy with the end results I think your mtd-tech is great in cost very affordable and also I think you will compete with Strider and Reeve in that arena of mid techs very well done may God bless you guys, Sincerely Smitty
Jim, do you think the screws going into titanium inherently makes is weak or cause problems with centering?
Great video once again Jim
Sweet, very cool midtech. Thanks
That murdered out Kawaiback is sick man.

☆☆☆☆☆ Awesome of you to give your place on the mid tech's list on your next giveaway.
What is the steel on the midtechs? I don't think its 3V, but I really have no clue.
154cm
ReelissuesTV
CPM S35vn
Hey Jim didn't understand the use of the sharpie. Can you explain pls?
Just eliminates, or greatly reduces the stick of ti to steel as it breaks in.
Thanks Jim that's a great tip about the sharpie
From the vid I can also see that the new Custom has skeltonization inside, which I didn't see on your old version
i have many knives and i seem to be interested in certain knives at certain times and i am in the hoback kwaibacks at the moment but anyway do you know why kwaibacks have a upswept blade?
It follows the traditional shape of Japanese Kaikens.
What is the weight specifically?
So are the kwaiback knives that are in the 750 range midtech I'm in the market and would like to know cause they don't have flat head screws but they also don't have a custom pivot
Sour they've evolved over the years now but if it's less than a grand, it's a midtech
Got it thank you grate vids btw you I blame you for moving me from the sabenza and the xm18s to the custom world really grate vids and I wish you luck on your knife making journey
does anyone know what the blade steel was on the first run of the mid-tech???
One thing you said bothered me "titanium backspacer would cost alot more" . Is 10 bucks alot to you? ....maybe not even 10 bucks of titanium. I did 7 paramilitary 2 clips of titanium with 55 dollars worth of titanium.
Is that a Bible verse stamped on there?
the aggressive rear gimping on the mid tech…Not sure i dig that as much…..kinda breaks the flow of the design. I do prefer the flathead accessible pivot though.

Hell Yeah, im on the list !
Can't wait!!!
Great video again Jim. Jake can't wait for mine so excited, I think the inscription will be John 10:1-10 The Good Shepherd and His Sheep?
How much does a pivot pin cost, like $5?, but the coin option, or flat head cut for me is way better, cause in the middle of The Sierra's there ain't no screw drivers(usually). I like the production better. Maybe he will make Ti spacers available?
Jake puts a lot of time and work into his custom pivots, they are pretty intricate. And time of course = money
U really love knives sir
These look sick.
I actually like the Midtech a lot more :O
Oh man. I wonder how much one would cost.
I wish some of these custom guys would just do an email list. I really don't want to have to check Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc to be up on new releases. Who has time for that? Ain't nobody got time for that! Just set up an email list people!

I don't know if Jake releases to the asses.
Jim Skelton You said asses!
Nice knife Ps. 23 very nice. .
Wish it was overbuilt like the original. Don't like the pillar construction. A backspacer would look great. I do like the pivot screw.
Am I missing something that my custom order is only ~$100-150 more than my midtech order?
To clarify I am just making reference to you saying the customs are so much more when getting them direct.
NewToKnives
All I can say is that I paid a CONSIDERABLE amount more for my Kawaiback then you guys are talking about. LOL. I could only go off of what I paid.
Jim Skelton You got jacked jimmy!...lmao... j/k....lmao... We both know these tools are worth every penny, brother..... another great video...
nevermind....just read Jake's post below...answering my question
i have a custom coming up in the next week that will be for sale
where?
what do you mean where?
where will you be selling it?
Usn
If you want it I could have Jake send it straight to you. But like Jim said there not cheap
And ps , I like hard use knives. I like 3v. I love fixed blades. This is a grail knife for me. Strait up, this and a rock stead. Function over look for my personal taste. I wish to have this one day. Oh and I emailed him and begged. Also didn't work. Se la vie
tacfan72 not 154cm its cpm 154.
It's nice but the 'psalm 23' engraving puts me off big time
I'm 110% infidel...and I would think that it should bother me too, strange that it doesn't bother me one bit.
