      Great Content, Thank You
Have you ever cut in half a Danner Quarry? I bought a pair 6 years ago before I subscribed to your channel, the Quarry used to be my favorite boot until I became "educated"! Now I want a pair of Whites Boots! Seriously though, it would be interesting to see how the Danner Quarry stacks-up/compares to all the other boots you've reviewed.
BTW, "reviewed" is perhaps not an accurate description of what you do, Analyze/Document would be more accurate. Thank You Again 👍😉

@@hkguitar1984 I love my danner quarry pair they seem well built to me and very comfortable at least for me I’ve been trying to figure out what type of leather they use but seems good enough. But I’m thinking the same now I’ve had multiple Chippewa red wing and danner over the years I’m ready to try something higher end the bear slayer was probably my favorite but I like the jk ot wish they made it in a lace to toe and solid rough out or smooth side

@@larstueschjth2658 They are not widely available in Switzerland, Meindl and Lowe are probably the most common traditional style hiking and hunting boots, also lots of Scarpa, Salomon, La Sportiva, and Salewa, and more recently Mammut, Arcetyx, etc.

@zacharykurtz2149 my previous Danners were not the Elk Hunters. It was a lesser built boot with a glued/bonded outsole. I beat those boots but also cleaned/treated the leather properly. They finally failed after 25 yrs.
I'll pay a little more for the name and the stitchdown construction for boots that will probably take me to my grave.

I’ve had my Elk Hunters for about 4 years, I’ve largely been very happy with them. Recently did a hard week of grouse hunting in northern Maine, really put em through the wringer, did get my feet wet once but that’s the worst I’ve gotten all the years I’ve used them for hiking and hunting. Not crazy about the outsole but I can just get that replaced when it wears out.

I think you kinda mentioned something, but didn't realize the full implication of what you said... By using the same construction from the insole to the outsole they are consistent across all these boots (with the one exception being the outsole in this case). From a customer standpoint this is a good thing. If I've tried one pair of their boots and liked them I would be very likely to buy a second pair since I know they are likely to feel the same as the first.
I wonder how many people buy multiple pairs of boots from one company because of the consistency in the product design. (I know I'm one of those people with multiple Grant Stone and Jim Green boots because I like the feel and construction of them...)

As a hunter - the Elk hunter with 400 Thinsulate and the 500T Trophy are important in the higher cold comfort.. I do NOT wear hunting boots for style. I DO NOT roll up my pants leg for style. I need a boot that will keep my feet warm - not sweat - and dry without snow and slush pouring over the top. $350 - 470 is a lot of money. I am not made of money. But I do not want to freeze.

Merrell Ontario mid boots would work, look similar and cost $100, right now Jan 2025. But you might only get 2 years out of them. They're not going to look as good as these Danner boots, but pretty close. I bought a pair today, Customer service gave me a 20% off. They're $190, marked down to $118 -20%= 95+ tax about $100 shipped. But maybe I'd rather just get $675. BOOTS 👢 from JK , the OT's and imagine that I'm saving $100 by not buying the Merrell boots. It's a tough call. JK boots will last forever! And look better. I wouldn't fill my shoe collection with too much cheap shoes

My early 1980's Elk Hunters were beautifully leather-lined. Back then, as I recall, Danners all were made with dark brown "vegetable-tanned" leather, nice and soft compared with the hard af rough-out "chrome-tanned" leathers that Euro boots were made from, if you were shopping for a hiking boot. The leather lining of my Elk Hunters wore out pretty quick at the heel, and Danner doesn't fix leather lining in their recrafting.

Danner calls this the “bob” outsole. It’s one of the reasons I bought the Elk Hunters. I have three pairs of Danner Canadians which are insulated for winter use. It’s a VERY comfortable outsole and does a great job of shedding mud, rocks and snow. The other big reason hunters like this outsole is that it’s quiet. You can walk through the woods without creating as much noise. However it’s not the best outsole for superior traction so beware if you are in mountainous terrain. They’re best suited for field use and relatively flat woods.
Elk hunters are very narrow at the toe. I wear ultra thin socks with these and love them that way as I bought them for summer use. If they are as good as the Canadians I will be happy for a decade or more.

I do agree danner can be a bit overpriced for the material they use but if you live near the portland, OR store they have really good customer service. I took in my moc toe boots cause the stitching around the toe was coming apart, they said they could fix it but also noticed some other problems and told me they cant put in a toe cap to prevent the leather with wearing out, replace the eyelids cause my laces were getting shredded, gave me new laces, put some glue the the sole cause it was coming apart a little bit. I was priced $30 just for the stitching but when i went to pick it up they said it was free. Right now im rocking some JK OT boots but always have some danners as my relief pair of boots until I break inmy JK's

The mountain series are probably their best looking boots. A lot of them have such weird panels all over and it takes away from a more simple heritage look.

as someone with toe problems and a tendency to have heel slippage in boots i actually find lace to toe much more comfortable.

Hunting boots are simply a marketing term. There is nothing in this segment that isn't done better with conventional high end hiking boots.

I honestly like my danner USA boots more then my red wing or Chippewa boots I’d like to see you cut up a rain forest or quarry I own both I’ve had the Rain forest for 4 years now I wear them every other day I’m a mechanic so I’m on concrete blacktop climbing in and out of vehicles over lift arms and welding with occasionally slag dropping onto them and they’re holding strong

Have you ever talked about or reviewed leather treatments? Curious if you have any recommendations for boots like the Danner Elk Hunter and others. I really like Huberd's Shoe Grease, but am not sure if I am helping or hurting the leather my boots are made of...

Hubbards is fine, it'll add some oils to your leather keeping it moisturized and it has some pine tar in it to seal the pores. A lot of people really like obenaufs heavy LP, which is bees wax based and is a long-proven option. That's my go to for all my leather hunting boots

The lace to toe design is a lot more like the Danner Light (not Mtn Light) or Explorer. I like the Danner Light II and Explorer a lot more than the Mountain Light boots. The Explorer’s basically a 6 inch Rain Forest boot.

Love Danner boots. Their Tachyon's are my favorite regular duty boot. Don't buy Garmont. I had two different pair mold up on me after a few months in korea. I dried them out every night and everything.

If your hunting involves a lot of standing around in cold and/or wet conditions, then the Gore-Tex liner may be great. Personally, I do a lot of vigorous hiking and my feet sweat. Not a good combination for me. Gore-tex is a big exaggeration of benefits and it ups the price of the product considerably. It's waterproof OR breathable, not both at the same time. I'd rather have leather or some other natural fiber touching my socks, not a synthetic liner. So, far, it looks like Danner is not the boot company for me, but maybe that leather-lined Danner version (if it exists) will get some air play eventually. Thanks for your review!
