    What is your feedback on these leaked prototype photos? Are there any you would've considered adding to your collection? Let me know below!

    My reaction to the prototype photos is similar to when one of my favorite movies is released as a special edition on BluRay with deleted scenes on it (as a special feature.) I love seeing the deleted scenes, and I always say, "Man. I'd love to see the full film with the deleted scenes put back in." But realistically, I know I'm just going to get the deleted clips separately.
    Actually getting these cabs would be like us getting a "Director's Cut" of a film. Unfortunately, we're not gonna get the director's cut, just special features showing us the deleted scenes.
    With that said, of those prototype pics, I'm all there for a 720 with the proper joystick and the Paperboy with the handlebars.

    Holy schmokes!
    If Arcade 1up releases Spy Hunter, I am totally all in on that game!
    I played that game everyday for months on end in the early 90's before I went into work.
    Love Spy Hunter.

    My biggest grievance with a1up after all these years is their joystick tops screw off during play. I have this issue with all my a1up cabs even after using fitting tape on all the joysticks. This seems so fundamental yet nothing is ever done about it...

    My opinion on this matter is that just because we haven't seen these products yet, it doesn't mean they won't be released. In fact, every product typically begins with a prototype. Do you recall when we first caught a glimpse of the Dragon's Lair prototype? It is likely that it takes several years for mass production of these products to be completed in China. Therefore, any concept introduced by Arcade1Up will likely take a considerable amount of time to come to fruition.
    Unless arcade 1up sent pics out saying hell with it, show the community that we were gonna release these but said screw it lol

      True from Design, to Prototype to Production things take a long time - but I personally highly doubt any of these products will actually come out, at least from Arcade1Up.

    9:00 "Why would Arcade1Up do that, and embarrass themselves?" To be fair, I've been asking that a lot lately, especially with that contest where they asked people to make furniture, using their product. Someone's gonna actually try that and get hurt.
    You know who would've been into the Batman Babycade? Restalgia. I would've wanted it, too, but you know Restalgia would've liked that.
    My tinfoil hat theory about John D is that he's basically just creating a consulting firm, where he can do the things he did at Arcade1Up on a freelancing basis. A company will hire him, and he negotiates the licensing and puts them in touch with developers to port the game onto their hardware.

    I’d have bought Pong but I like odd looking shit. Same with 720. And if Spy Hunter was a standup with a yoke that looks more like the original, probably would’ve grab that too. SmashTV yes, Paperboy….not that one.

    Wonder if the leaks came out after an NDA expired, assuming there was one and it was only a year. Uneducated guessing….

    Spy Hunter is my favorite Arcade game. I used to own the Standup version.. but sadly, had to sell it. The Sit Down Arcade Cabinet version, is the BEST way to play it.. as you get much greater Comfort, Control, AND... you get overall better Sound too.
    One Special thing about Spy Hunter... is that the wheel has to be built like a TANK. In the arcade game... in order to be able to push the Baddies off the Road... you actually need to SLAM the wheel as fast and Hard as possible. The game actually tracks your "Bump Speed" and compares it against the Enemy's bump energy levels... and so the physics that occur from the collision energies... are thus semi-realistically portrayed.
    The original SH wheel has these two massive rubber bumper stops... able to take the hardest wheel slams, without any damages to the wheel, nor the wheel assembly. In fact, even with your hardest slams... you dont really feel that much of an impact, in your own hands / arms... because the Rubber Bumpers are so good at Absorbing most of the Impact forces.
    Spy Hunter also appears to have a higher resolution of tracking, on its controllers. The wheel and pedal... I believe both of them used a 10 turn pot (encoder). You can see the gear teeth are very small on both... and as such, likely have a much higher gear ration, and thus, a much greater level of player control.
    Most arcade games, used a 5k Pot, which I believe it had much less rotational distances.
    I do know that Hard Drivin / Race Drivin... 100% used a 10 turn Pot for its wheel. On that game, I believe you could rotate the steering wheel like 3 full rotations, before hitting the end-stop.
    One of the main problems with actual Arcade machines... tends to be extremely Worn (destroyed) Geared parts. Those smaller toothed cogs, didnt hold up too well... Most Especially if the assembly suffered from some loose screws, and got even a hair out of alignment.
    Interestingly enough... there is a small roller ball under the Pedal. If memory serves correct... I believe that its the same exact part, thats used in a Bally Pacman joystick (the Actuator).
    Another interesting thing... is that you can actually Bump the Switch-Blade baddies, from the very FRONT edge of their cars (using the Rear of your car). Its very tricky to do... but it can be done.
    And for fun... You can shoot the Weapons van as you are being lowered out of it... and it will blow up, at the same exact time. You wont be effected, other than your score may temporarily pause.. from kill1ng one of the "Good" vehicles. You also wont lose your Weapon, either.
    IMO... Spy Hunter needs a motorized cabinet version... that slides quickly, left to right (like a Printer Carriage). That would take the physical experience, to a whole other level. Adding some Bass-Shaker transducers under the seat, is also a good idea.

    I disagree that if the leaker of photos was A1up employee, this proves their failure to bring it to the market. Like you said the retailers and license holders and investors funding the cabs make the decision. These photos prove they tried to give you titles you wanted. They did listen to us, but unfortunately they weren't made. Also as prototypes, they can be altered in form before final model for mass production. Atari or atgames can takeover and fix them.

    • @PDubsArcadeLoft
      @PDubsArcadeLoft  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Appreciate the feedback, if your job is to sell to the retailer and you couldn't get them on board, sounds like a failure at negotiations and the point of sale to me.

    Drop the Spy Hunter and replace it with Pole Position (could've included Pole Position I & Pole Position II) and I would've bought it. I realize the advertisements in the game issue with Pole Position. But I would be willing to sacrifice the changes to the billboards if everything else was Arcade accurate. Either a standing version or sitting. With my back, I think a standing would be better.

    Spy Hunter is just like Star Wars.
    You don't reality how good it is until you play it on it's own original platform, just like Star Wars trilogy.

This wasn't talking down to him. Are you the kind of person who takes offense whenever someone gives you advice?

      @zackdreamcast 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PDubsArcadeLoft no but it’s your opinion that it has plateaued or “it was better back in the old days”. Coming across that it’s fact is essentially talking down to him and saying that what he has a passion for and loving is somehow not valid or lesser than what you experienced a few years ago. That’s all. You can say you had a great time then with all the new releases and newness of the company arcade1up. Maybe now is better that all the products are out there with no need to wait, easier to collect, and that it’s exciting to see what becomes of arcade1up will someone buy them? Will a new player enter the space? Etc etc. your opinion and experience is valid, but so is his.
