I thought that was really cool. I think the DLC will have to do with the arks getting corrupted, therefore the earth will be too, and you are humanity's last hope
So, what is your story of Ark?
Mine is that as humans or homo deuses have evolved through era of our living, they developted new technology, where they got to the point where they created Element. As they used Element for their tech, It became more and more unstable it turned into infection, that created Titans. Earth becomed unstable of supporting life, so we or homos created clones of dinosaurs and other creatures, which they placed in Arks that launched from Earth.
As the humans developted on Arks, the life on Earth has slowly began to vanish. As we saw in the video, the Arks cured the Earth from Element as the new life started to spread around the planet. But the Aberration Ark also landed on earth, and it is still containing Rockwell, who will maybe get free from his prison and start spreading Element once more. Maybe there will be another story where we defeat Rockwell for good.

I don't think it's Helena.
The One Who Waits appears to have existed for most of the time the ARKs have, and Helena appears to be more recent. The accent is also way more British than Australian.
Anyways, I *think* Homo Deus and the Overseers are one and the same, the Overseers have simply become overwhelmed with stored information and fallen into the same patterns. Meanwhile, TOWW is younger and thus hasn't fallen into that issue yet and is being far more active in resisting the effects.
It's still a bit confusing, but TOWW mentions a few things in the notes that the Homo Deus here makes reference to (such as seeing the sunrise)

Yeah I’m under the impression that Helena is the one who waits. If you read all of the explorer notes you’ll find that Mei Yin says that the voice talking to her sounds familiar, an event placed after Helena disappears. Furthermore Diana’s revival occurred after this and The One Who Waits talks about being the one to clone people from the dead. You really have to read all of the notes for it to make sense but I for one am looking forward to ARK 2

This is what I can figure out. Remember Diana and Santiago? They remember a civilisation that was starting to run on element in the far future, so I reckon that the potential world - war described by Santiago in the explorer notes happened soon (few decades or maybe a century) after their last memories of Earth. Element was already in use widely, but a war being fought with it meant that so much element went into the soil that it became corruption and started destroying the environment and corrupting creatures and (supposedly) turning into some sort of hive mind lifeform thing (extremely dodgy and questionable science detected). Too late, everybody on Earth realises this and now everybody is going to die. So they start the Ark project which is to send the Ark space stations into orbit and these are run by extremely advanced AI systems, the head of which being the overseer (as each Ark has an overseer as evidenced by the Aberration explorer notes). These collect DNA samples from many creatures throughout prehistory and put them in their respective ecosystems on certain Arks. These also collect DNA samples from humans throughout history and clone them, which explains why everyone mentioned is from different time periods and remembers stuff up to a point, the real them is still experiencing life in said time period. As for how this works, I'm thinking something along the lines of Terminator except the robots sent through time are collecting DNA samples instead of killing people. These people and creatures will repopulate the planet once the element levels have gone down enough. In the meantime, they've got some bosses they can defeat and creatures they can tame and generally they live their days on the Ark. The heads of the project volunteered to be turned into Homo deus so they could run the entire thing long into the future (these are the seniors/elders mentioned by ???/The one who waits/probably Helena). The Arks are sent off while the dwindling population of Earth eventually disappears, due to many possible reasons. The element formed titans, and it also created creatures like those on Aberration which Rockwell suspected were mutated or something by element getting into their DNA. The city survives only by an old defence and police system (the shield seen in meteor showers, and the enforcers and defence units). This is how things stay until all the note writers get on the show and progress from Ark to Ark until Aberration, where they screw up and more or less destroy it. They build the Gateway project to get down to Earth, Rockwell turns himself into le tentacle freak and after being defeated becomes one of the broken Ark's guardians. The rest of the crew leave for Earth, find the state it's in and try to figure out what the heck is going on. The titans and their corrupt minions get on the show and start wrecking everybody. Santiago designs and builds some Meks along with the thing that makes the MegaMek, they hold out for a bit, Santiago sacrifices himself for everyone, Helena is lead to the tomb of ascension (that secret room in the forest cave) and becomes a Homo deus, Diana and Mei Yin are the only ones left and they fight off the titans to the best of their ability (scarring the King Titan) but they die meaning that (technically) Helena is the only note writer left. Many (I know not how many) years later, we, the survivor, drop in on the scene and follow the footsteps of the note writers all the way to Earth where we defeat the titans (or purge them of their corruption) and topple the King Titan which means that the levels of element are finally low enough for the Arks to return and they sort the rest of it all out. We're turned into a Homo deus as a favour and everything goes happily ever - "I AM COMING FOR YOU" (le tentacle freak, 2018). Look who showed up, should probably have destroyed the rest of the aberrant ark.
Yeah this is the best explanation of the story I have seen, but two questions is homo deus and evolved human compared to us Homo sapiens and also I am not sure about destroying aberration because it is just so interesting to me at least.

I've always thought Ark was a complete mess regarding the story.. but HOLY Rockwell! It all got pieced together in the end, and has gone from one "meh"-game to probably top 5. Can't WAIT to get home from work so I can play!

Glitchy gameplay doesn't make a game shit. Skyrim is insanely glitchy and is still my no. 1 favourite game of all time. Besides, there are mods to make the game smoother and help.

yeah the ending of this DLC really showed that what was actually happening i thought we were on an island but it was more then that :) cant wait for reveal of the next one
I had to come back to this and I'm *really* glad Wildcard stuck to their guns and didn't change or rush the story when people were complaining about how confusing it was. The story is genuinely brilliant (with near unlimited spin off/expansion potential - there's NO reason we can't be dealing with earlier challenges the faced by the various arks/survivors even 20 DLC's in) and allows for a huge and interesting array of characters from the entirety of human history (and future) to be added and forced to interact with and adapt to historical/fantastical/mutated creatures. Genesis is a great example of this - the arks must have THOUSANDS of sub-processes running to maximise efficiency/chances of success and the Genesis Simulation is just one.
I've not come across another STORY, let alone a game, which so effectively combines my three great loves (creatures, fantasy and sci-fi) into a single experience which not only *works* but feels greater than the sum of its parts. When I first started playing ARK it was a game with a few dinosaurs and some inexplicable weird alien shit scattered around (and very difficult to find, other than the obelisks) and, honestly, I was content with that. I'd have probably been content with a game that didn't let me tame dinosaurs and instead demanded I survive them by using stuff like TEK armour too.
So, when it turned into a game with beautiful biomes that I could look at through a hyper advanced scanning interface (Tek Helmet) while shooting energy weapons at a mechanical Rex from the back of a Griffon, I could *not* have been more happy.

I've been in love with ark since it came out on early release and honestly, you have no idea how much I'm geeking out and loving it. THAT ENDING!! OMGGG
same lol i have so many theories. my original one was that aliens took the humans as slaves and tried to strenghthen them against dangerous creatures such as dinosaurs. then when we ascended, they would use our dna to make even stronger humans. that was the only explanation i could find for tek xD. but now i doubt this because the arks rejoined earth without any resistance, obviously under nature's control
Bruvboy2018 that's actually a really cool theory! Maybe it could be where Tek is actually human technology? Like have you seen how our technology is now? Imagine how it'll be in a few hundred years. And maybe because of how our technology has broken down the earth, we decided to send different environments into space to stop them from being corrupted but then rockwell injected element into himself and ended up bringing corruption into aberration. But when we defeated the titans, it got rid of the corruption from the earth and allowed the arks to come back.

Bruvboy2018 no it makes sense 😂 cause when we 'defeated' rockwell you don't actually know if you defeated him because he just goes back into the pool of element. Maybe we just weakened him? But as we leave and go to extinction, he's been able to become stronger and maybe ends up releasing his reapers and unnamed (?) Onto Earth which means you have to try to battle and then maybe the ending is rockwell becoming that homo deus thing like Helena and him and her thanking you and going off together or something? That'd be really cool

Ok this is just a thought but what if the reasons the ark exist was because the titans came (or were mentioning to be like bioweapons and it backfired) and brought the corruption which then started to take over Earth and the humans, in order to survive, created the arks and split humanity and so when the strongest person or tribe was brought to earth they could defeat the colossal Titan and cure the corruption. bring the arks back to earth along with all the humans and creatures to repopulate.

This theory sounds real tbh
The explorer notes indicate that what happened was Element was discovered (either it was manufactured or it was literally discovered). Exactly what it is isn't explained (or particularly known by the characters), but it seems to have some ability to self-replicate. Santiago reckons that the Earth got the way it is because of mass use of Element-based weaponry.
Anyway, once it got past a certain threshold it started acting like a weird hive mind that could corrupt things. Again, it's not confirmed whether it was always like this and it just wasn't behaving that way, or if it only activated once it got to a certain mass. The ARKs appear to have been created as refuges away from the corruption, with the intention that they'd return and destroy what was left, but they weren't able to return because there was too much Element corruption and being programs, they didn't ever go "Well, we'll give it a shot anyway".
The titans are basically outgrowths of the corruption itself, acting as a sort of command-and-control node or somesuch. In destroying the King Titan or whatever it is, you crippled the corruption enough that the corruption level got below the threshold the ARKs had, triggering them to return and recolonise the Earth while destroying what was left of the Element.
And then there's Aberration, where everything went to shit and Edmund became corrupted. And it was still following the programming to return to Earth, so who knows what crazy shit that'll unleash.
I must admit that I liked the design of the overseer and Rockwell bosses far more. While the king titan is imposing and over the top, it also reminds me too much of godzilla/mechagodzilla, while the overseer for example had an interesting design and a great build-up with the commanding platform leading up to the boss.

They announced this before Abberation and possibly even before scorched earth.
They admitted they already wanted to work on Ark 2 which would definitely be coming, but felt they needed to finish the story first and wouldn’t continue until then.
They kept saying it all had to come full circle, which it has now.
Rockwell was in the beginning and is now the only Element corrupted being.
At the end of the cutscene where it’s shows abb, when the obelisk was turning purple you can hear something or someone say “I am coming for you.” Change it to 2x it sounds better for me. It could Rockwell.
The ending is so good, your basically playing as a clone, idk XD

Syntac, I've followed you for years and have enjoyed most of your content. But your lack of knowledge of the story of Ark is a disgrace. Go to the Wiki, read ALL the explorer notes. It will take you half a day but at least you will know what is going on, the purpose of the Arks, and that you are suppose to fight the final boss with the giant MEK.
the bigger disgrace is the fact that he has worked with anthomnia who has progressively been analysizing ark lore for some time now, so he should have known.

The real disgrace is that it takes you half a day to read what would take a slow reader a maximum of 2 hours to read.

For anyone who was wondering, the sound coming from the Rockwell was translated to "I AM COMING FOR YOU"
this is the only time we have seen syntac take on the king titan on cam
What I think is cool is that at the end of the cutscene you can see the island, the map we all know and love, the map we started out with, is the last thing we see.
I think that there is going to be 1 last dlc where you are going to team up with helena to defeat new evolved also stronger rockwell which wants to corupt everything with element but you and helena cant allow that so you are going to have 1 last boss battle
in abberation rockwell became the overseer and as the overseer the ark system will continuously revive rockwell constantly but with the arks touching down on earth rockwell is still the overseer of that ark
