- Oh, it's a winding road the life of an artist! I was just feeling like I'd got the place comfortable and knock-me-down-sideways: we're out.
I thought I'd just make it a quick update for you this week to loop you into the situation with the studio. Hopefully I'll be back on your doorsteps in a few days with better news, and, fingers crossed, the prospect of a new studio.

Same thing just happened to me. Looking for new studio space now around Manchester. Is a little sad but much like yourself feel very grateful for 3 peaceful and productive years in this space. Hope we can both find somewhere new to continue creating!

This is such a blow for you and the other little businesses. Even though it's a hovel not a garret (de rigueur for a starving artist),it's still a valuable appreciated space.i hope you find something soon. Don't get too despondent, keep well, good luck in your search.

My dad was an artist specializing in graphic design back in the pre digital analogue days when everything was made on large boards and graphic sheet film. He built up a collective of artists and my earliest memories (70s) are of helping him to move ‘office! Which he did multiple times. We lived in central London where he stayed in premises until the increasing rates forced him out. I remember him working in a basement which constantly flooded, an attic space only accessible by a steep curved staircase, a top floor with round windows overlooking Paddington Train station, a condemned room in Bedford Square, a space split across 3 floors with a tiny room on each, and he eventually said ‘fuck if’ and bought a large space in Kentish Town on the top floor of a building with no lift and windows that wouldnt open, and a high crime rate, all he could afford. He and his team were constantly relocating whilst trying to manage jobs that he’d secured but it taught me that (1) its who you know not what you know (6 degrees of separation and all that), (2) resourcefulness brings challenges but massive rewards (3) anything’s possible to a willing heart. Looking back I realise he moved 6 times in 10 years. Despite your physical challenges You sound incredibly inventive, resourceful and clear thinking. This may sound niave but is land expensive where you live? long term could you build your own studio?
Also, you could apply to The Arts Council for ‘open funds’.

I'm sorry you have to go through this! I hope an affordable new space comes along for you quickly. It may be an idea to reach out to local media, this is a loss of a community space that will affect many people, and perhaps an offer or some other form of help could come out of it. Sorry to hear that - positive vibes from China - I enjoy your videos and told my sister in the UK about them as she has just picked up oils. (I use acrylics). Hope you find somewhere soon - I use our backroom out of necessity.

A temporary setback and a story for the future.
Pity, it was a damn good place and setup so well. Probably a 12 month project now to concentrate on.
Your own plot with your own studio is the way to avoid this happening again. You're young and got lots to look forward to. Plan for the future as best you can and always remain positive. 👍

Very sorry to hear this, Benmo. Best of luck for resolving this soon. As crass as this might seem, would you consider enable the tipping function youtube seems to offer on this video to collect at least some funds to cover the move? Maybe that is not available from the UK.
I don't think that's crass at all - in fact, it's nice to hear it -I feel quite awkward about all that stuff. I have made a patreon recently, but it feels a bit uncomfortable plugging it! Have a lovely weekend

I saw you on one of vic's videos (Holly the cafe boat) and seeing as they're looking for somewhere to live and possibly buy, you could put your money together and buy something rural, to live on and have a studio 🤗
Haha, that is very funny. Yes, Vic and I have had many chats about the perfect retreat in the hills with space for both a studio and a lovely cafe. Dreams for the future!

Bummer, sorry to hear about this, but remember, every cloud has a silver lining (unless it's a new moon). It might end up being a case of a U-store-it and a lot of plein-air for a while, or you could find something soon, who knows? But it served its purpose of getting you well again, now maybe the universe is telling you to move to the next stage in your life?
Actually, mould is not good for you at all especially as you suffer from fatigue, so may be the universe is sending you elsewhere. Those spores get into everything. So a prayer for you that you find another wonderful spot that will be healthy for you.
