Man you can't beat the sound of a shovel! They configuration of that heads ports and combustion chamber make such music it's virtually a hemi where EVOS an up are a wedge chamber like most V8s like SBC and others. I loved my old 80" shovel. EVOS and newer sound decent enough but they don't have that blap the shovel has when crack the throttle at a lower rpm. The other day I was at a store and Harleys are everywhere so I don't pay attention to em and I heard a a bike fire up and chug off it caught my ear Shure as shit a shovel. Love em, if take a shovel over any other. And properly build as reliable as anything and the old Harleys leak oil well yes it's true but it can from shovels and back having old school paper gasket from back in the day.
I was laughing so hard at him trying to start it. just because I’ve been doing the same thing to my shovel all day and it makes me feel like I’m not alone 😂
When my 74 don't wanna start I talk to her . After she starts I apologize (sincerely ) for all the foul language. Shovels 4 ever ...all I've ever owned...
its the real life kicking a harley my friend had a 73 he made it kick only this vid is very familiar of Tommy.I have owned a few shovelheads prettiest idling bike ever.
I have my late friend custom built chopper after his passing, he had engine work done before his passing, so when i got it, it had to be put together again, i had never worked on one and never rode, everyone was so negative about getting it running and me riding it, a year later, i kickstart it 5 in the morning and take it around the block a few times and let it idle while i warm up my SUV before leaving to work, and no one says anything about it, i wonder why....i think it's because i can't hear anything but the roar of my shovelhead.😂
@@gramsgamingnwhatever9057 i have a question, when I'm out on a ride, and it's warmed up, it starts running rough, then stalls and when it cools down it runs fine until it warmed up, it sounds like it's running on one cylinder and starts popping on idle, any advice?
The coil checked out good and the electronic ignition sensor just replaced , i was checking things out yesterday and I think i found what could be the issue, i didn't realize i been stripping the spark plug thread until the front kept turning, i figure that I'm losing compression and after it's warmed up, the heat expands that compression lost at the spark plug threads, could that be a issue that is causing it?
@dannymartinez8314 It would have to be a significant loss of compression for it to start running weird. And you might want to check spark plug gap and plugs.
What jets you gots on that s & s, bc I noticed if you gone one lower on main, they start way easier without out losing much at top...just sayin peace always Chuck
Never heard of the 1978 harley Davidson Cold Start model, must have been fairly obscure and unpopular due to the name and its interpretation. Sure does live up to its name tho....
Do the hard kicks really help? Honest question. I don’t have much experience with shovels but I’ve started a few of em up just kicking through it lightly. I bought a shovel a few months ago and have been chopping it. Any advice would help thanks!
Wov, that shine must have taken some elbow grease ;-) Looks incredible!! :-) 👍

That's awesome man just take your time with it and you'll get her going!
righteous hog there bro, awesome!
Thanks man I love that old bike!
illustrates the difference between a muscle powered civilization (up until 1850) and an oil powered civilization perfectly ;-)

Pump the throttle a couple times then kick it twice to prime the cylinders then turn the key on and kick it works every time for me

Those are cycle shack drag pipes. You might be able to still find them?
Can you link me to them floorboards please? I'd like a set for my '79 FXE. Thanks.
Sorry for late reply but Im not sure where to find them? those are the original footboards for that FLH. Im sure you can find some on ebay maybe?

@dannymartinez8314 ignition coil may be crap and check points if it has them. Let me know what you find.

You know I'm not sure if it helps that's just the way I have always started her up. But she likes it rough!!
Buddies was a pain to start until he got rid of the mag and went to electronic ignition.
It's leaking oil before it starts holy crap...
That's what they do.
Key off, two squirts with the throttle, and two kicks on the kicker.
Choke on, key on, no throttle, and it should start.
Cool bike
Get rid of the rap!!!!!!
My question today is, has kicking hurt your knee, if not I would like to know your secret.
