He has the perfect baritone voice ever. And tho its been mucho years since his going home to the Father, his music still lives on and will forever be missed.
I’m a Caucasian man and my mother loved James Cleveland. She told me she was friends with a black American lady who she would visit and she had his records and Mahalia Jackson’s records playing in her home. And my mother just loved both of them and others. I don’t think my mother knew or cared that he was gay. Mother was living when he died and she seemed surprised when I told her I read that he was gay. She shrugged it off and said “ I don’t know , but I know he can sing and play that piano”. Mother died a few years later.
I thought about this song one day and how they use to sing it in my grandmothers church. I decided to search for it online and i found it. I remember it was sung and I didnt know it then as a child but it moved you and encourage you to continue with God. Thanks for sharing. Much Blessing!
Thank you so very much, for posting this old classic!! I came up in the James Cleveland era, didn't understand his souldfull singing, back then......but now, since I have reached my senior years, Oh how I understand the lyrics, NOW!!!!!
Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Beautiful classic worship hymn that my late father, elder Norman Daniels would play on his guitar, piano cordian and banjo, strumming and stringing along in worship to our Lord Jesus Christ 😊
Once again you have done it. Thank you Dwayne. I love this kind of sacred music. You should hear Mahalia belt this out. Oh this would make my church go off. Evelyn Sallie-White would destroy Morning Star Bapt. Church of Christ with this one.
I have 2 renditions of Mahalia singing this. One from her 1962 album MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE UNTO THE LORD. The other is from a 1968 concert in France. Indeedy!

I think we would b speculating that the organist was doing something wrong. It seems whoever the organist was they accompanied him well. But that look was something to behold. I glad I wasn't on the recieving end of it. God bless Rev Cleveland. True music genius.
And to think of the times that this was recorded (50s 60s), and what African Americans had to put up with(racism & white supremacy ... Lord help me to hold on

I wonder what year was this. James Cleveland look very young. Can't believe he was gay.

Gospel is not gay, straight, bisexual etc. It's just simply gospel music.
