- If you're planning to retire to another country, ANY other country than where you live, you NEED to know this secret. If you're already retired and living abroad, you could be wasting A LOT of money! Doesn't matter where you're from or where you're going, you can do this ONE thing and save money!
#retirement #retireabroad #savemoneylivebetter #thailand
I used small examples in the video but let's kick it up a notch. Instead of a 20,000 THB rental let's look at a 4,000,00 THB condo or home purchase. You're a foreigner so you're paying cash. Today, that condo would cost you $116,296, but using this secret, it would only cost me $108,108. Why waste more than $8,000? Watch and learn!

Thanks mate. Great advice🙏🇹🇭🙏
Hope it helps.
I have an extremely savy Thai who shops for anything big for me in Thailand, with her seemingly never ending ways of obtaining discounts, there's always a good saving...plus converting funds at the right time...a win win.
Ok, you might get things cheaper than me! 🤣🤣

I'm just thinking she has contacts in the right places, yet she laughs when I suggest such 😅
Excellent video. Covers everything I have been pondering about transferring money when I finally get to move. I don't think it could have been more complete without becoming over-talkitive. Absolutely the best Thai video clip I have seen in over three years scouring for info. Thank you so much.
Wow, thank you so much for that.
Thumbs up 👍 Michael
Thanks for the information. This will come in handy indeed!
Glad it was helpful!
Wise trigger feature and interest rates are really good. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
That’s a fantastic tip I’m definitely gonna do that.👍
Glad you found it useful.
Great video thank you for explaining wise and this technique! Almost 5percent on us dollars is more than I can get on my savings going to open an account. Concept is simple and easy. Keep up the great work. Thank you
Glad you found it helpful.
Very much appreciated this tip! Thanks friend.
Hope it helps.
Absolutely love this video. More tips and tricks like this please. I always do the same thing, convert my BHT when I get more, but never broke the pattern down the way you did here.
Thanks so much. Glad you liked it.
Good video. Using wise since 2 years. Didn't know about the peaks and downs, will do it 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Great information it makes a lot of sense, great content as usual much appreciated
Thank you
Very good info on retirement thank you😊
Thanks for watching
Wow. Moving to Hua Hin in early October from New Zealand. Just had a look at NZD to THB exchange rates - looks like at least a 10% trough-to-peak variation. Didn't realise how easy it was to set up the exchange parameters on WISE. Not often you can get a 10% ลดราคา (lót-raa-kaa) with under 2 minutes work!!! ขอบคุณ ครับ (kòp-kun kráp).
Awesome! Enjoy the move. Hua Hin is great.
@@RetiringToAsia Starting off by doing 1 month of volunteering work with 'Rescue Paws' in Khao Tao. Still deciding between Hua Hin, Cha Am and Jomtien for my retirement - might spend a month in each to help me decide!
Thank you very much for this information,I just found your channel,
You're welcome and welcome. Hope you enjoy it.
Awesome video, thanks for the great info
Thanks for watching
Amazing content. Thanks for sharing (I think Wise is brilliant too)
Thanks for watching
@@asiawithalex 100% correct, I’ve been a wise customer for the last few years!
They have the best rates & simple (as Michael explained) to do business with! I’ve been to Thailand lots over many years & just noticed Michael’s channel since we are spending around six months there! A great laid back area as he explains!
Great video...looks like you have settled in nicely to your new life...I've been following you since before your move. Thank you for the great, informative, and entertaining content.
I LOVE IT..."If you've got ugly comments, keep 'em to yourself. Nobody wants to hear 'em"...lol...
Thank you for sticking with me!
I got very lucky i just bought a condo when the thai bhat hit a weak point against sterling which made it about a 3% difference in my favour .. i think your peak 7% will be more difficult to achieve in reality but the theory is sound in that when you have fixed dates for financial data being released you can predict currency movements to a certain degree 7 % everytime is unlikely
Check the charts and make the move when it's right. Simple math doesn't lie. Congrats on the condo and timing.
I want to thank you for providing extremely useful information. Awesome job...I owe you a coffee when I get there.
Awesome thanks.
Awesome video, finally someone explained the famous wise app. Only one question, for those that don’t have an actual bank account in Thailand, how do we go about getting the funds once there? -any other way to collect the money transfer to the Thai account in wise once on site?
Without a Thai bank here, I think the only way to pull funds from Wise is with the debit/atm card and I believe, not sure, it's tied to your home funds and not the converted Thai funds. Check with Wise for more details or confirmation. Opening a bank account is super easy if you use an agent. I did a recent video interviewing the agent I use for everything. Check that video out for details on opening an account next time you're here.
@@aglaelavin6147 yes use your wise debit card. Cheapest alternative & very low rates compared to mainstream bank.
Smart 😊
Once in a while I'm like that. 🤣
Thank you, great info.
Subbed fair way back.
Great channel 👍🇦🇺
Thank you!
You’re on it!
Already had mine set to 37 automatically after it fell below of course 🤪
See ya in October 😎
Drinks on me 🍻
Sounds good. Thanks for watching.
Great video. I am already using wise but will keep an eye out on future exchange rates. I’ve added the alert as you’ve mentioned. I’ve moved to Thailand and looking for any tips and tricks I can find.
As a side note, were you in Central Marina last week? If it wasn’t you, you have a doppelgänger. Rob Pattaya.
I was there but I think more than a week ago. I don't keep track of time much.
Bang Saray, I’m coming soon ! 😊
Awesome!
Hi, interesting video that could help save many dollars, speaking of which do you think you could help in finding a pattern for the AUD. I had a look and to the untrained eye it just looked like it was all over the place.
Take a look at April and October. Once in a while July/August looks good too.
@@RetiringToAsia jeezzz that was fast! Thank you!!!
Super brilliant! Wow you nailed it. So I have a question say I have balances in both USD and Thai Baht and I’m using a physical WISE Visa card at the local Lotus store the card reader takes from the USD side how do I prevent that so it pays whatever I’m buying from the Thai Baht side… hmmm let me know thanks Michael great video 👌🙏🔥
Good question, and sadly, I don't know the answer.
@@RetiringToAsianonetheless lincredible video❤🙏💕 I gotta find out
You should be able to ask to use local currency no conversion definitely at ATM but I would expect in store also
@@daveholt5676 hmmm I will try this on the next purchase thank you!
wow great advise, I have a wise account already so I'm halfway there...lol. but I don't have a Thai account yet.
Great. All you have to do, when the rate is good, is hit that Convert button and you're set.
Do you have to file a thai tax return as well as the US one?
Potentially, and if I do, it's no big deal.
Hi Michael. My name is Shawn and I moved to Jomtien with my wife a month ago. I know about the interest from Wise, but it says you have to be a US resident. We do have a US address with Wise but live here full time. Can we hold money in Wise and get interest without breaking the law?
If you're still a US resident, you're not breaking any laws, regs or policies. I'm still a legal resident of VA paying state and federal taxes.
@RetiringToAsia Thanks.
10% isn't much and it depends on your tolerance.
20k baht is too high for any single guy.
Your budget is not everyone's. Many single guys can and do pay much more.
Excellent informative video, well done
Easy to do but most people don't think about it. Thanks for watching.
Excellent vlog, thank you.
Have you ever wondered what the correlation is with so many male expats in SE Asia having tattoos?
Much more than the average of males in one's home countries.
555 nope. Can't say I've ever wondered that. 🤔 Until now....
@@RetiringToAsia
Definitely has to be some correlation, as it's much more than just coincidence.
Certainly supply and demand. Demand for baht is higher November to February because it's peak season. Makes sense.
@@RetiringToAsia
?
My guess is it is because many tattoo folks have a personality it's very high in creativity and trait openness... And my guess is, those same people are the type of people that would leave their home country and go live Halfway Around the World....
3.43 baht/$ - I'd suggest a check of that although I didn't exchange money on that day luckily 🤣
Clearly, I misspoke and should have said 34.3
Yes,of course we all do that from time to time...I was just sitting in my condo and bored...your video was simple and useful,no doubt it will help many of your viewers👍
I don’t live in Pattaya yet, so can I open a Thai bank account from the US? I hear it’s not easy. Great info!
You can't. To open a Thai BANK account you have to be here and have a Thai phone number but you can open a Baht account with Wise and use this method to get baht cheaper.
Ok, thank you.
You dont save anything, if you have a budget of $2000 a month, whether you get 69,000 or 70,000 baht, its still $2000 a month. So you are not saving anything, you just have an extra 1000 baht to play with.
😂😂 new math? Since we don't use dollars here...your $2000 got you 68,000 baht, but I got 74,000. If your budget is 50,000 THB/Mo., yes we both pay 50,000 but I have more left over. Looks like a savings to me but you do you. Thanks for watching.
Wait, so you can open a savings account with Wise and keep some funds in Baht? Is there a limit to how long you can keep it that way?
You saw my account page. I keep a balance of Baht and dollars. Transfers from baht to Thailand move faster than if I transfer from my usd account too. It's NOT a Thai bank account. Just an account holding converted funds.
I use Wise all the time for quick transfers but have seen reports before of peoples Wise accounts getting hacked. Therefore I'm nervous keeping any large balances in there
Do you think the highs and lows of baht value are correlated with high and low season?
Thanks for the info btw.
Possible. The current strength of the Baht is said to be coming from the PM change but not sure. Might blow the October pattern. 🤞
One more question please: How do I drill down to that page on google finance?
Shoot me an email. No need for Google finance.
It maybe my old laptop that is the problem, but that Wise link is not working, not sure if anyone else is having the same issue.
I just checked it and it's working for me. Try copy and paste to a Chrome browser. What country are you in?
@@RetiringToAsia Jomtien Thailand just up the road from you, 👍
did copy and paste work? if not, email me and we can figure it out.
