Hello Ted, I am so pleased that my postcard reached you safe and sound. Thanks so much for the shout out to my channel, I really appreciate all that you do to promote our hobby.
I'm very glad you decided to come back to stamp collecting. You are a real asset to stamp collecting, this community and its creators. Thank you so much for being you! :)
The title of this video had me worried for a minute that you’d lost your passion and would be stepping away from the hobby. I’m glad that was only in the past as opposed to the present. I’ll be sure to give Chris’ channel a look. Happy Stamping Ted!
Saw Chris's audio. Sad to see influential people who have inspired their viewers "throw in the towel". I enjoyed his videos, and yours of course. Right now, with this election...I'm SO stressed out and very glad I have stamps to sort to keep my mind off the news for a bit. I can't imagine getting rid of my stamp collection I've spent so much time on....and I only got started a couple yrs ago.
Completely understand - I have had similar periods where I stopped collecting and passed on my stuff. Luckily last time I gave it all to my dad who was still collecting, then he turned around and gave it back along with all of his stuff because he having health issues. And so it goes. Sad that Chris is having regrets - this hobby is about joy and if we aren't having fun we aren't doing it right.
I’m glad you didn’t do anything rash. I regret throwing out my Germany Philatelic Society journals because there is one particular article I really really want to read again.
Hi Ted! Thanks for showing us bits of Dusseldorf. I always enjoy it to see glimpses of another place which I might not have the privilege to visit in person. It is such a shame that it seems as if "real" stamp shops largely disappeared. Buying online is just not the same as actually visiting a shop/dealer and see the "real" stamps and also benefit from the dealer's knowledge. I followed Chris's channel from the start. I feel a sort of a kinship with him and the way he thinks and makes decisions. It was a bit of a shock to see his audio video about his loss of interest in stamps, and his selling of his collection. It seems that it may be something that happens now and then with many collectors. A switch on and a switch off - strange. Wonder what brings it along - burn out? Thanks for your video. I just love your channel and videos! I sincerely hope the switch will stay on!
Nice coincidence. That´s exactly the area where I grew up in the 1960´s when Duesseldorf was packed with stamp shops like Bartels, Stuckert or the huge stamp section at Kaufhof right behind the Triton fountain as you can see at 1:55. My mom wasn´t shopping at Koenigsallee because this was far too expensive for average consumers, but she went to Schadowstrasse, Jan Wellem- Platz or the Kaufhof. I think that, like in other cities, the majority of those stamp shops went out of business today. Very informative, thanks for taking us along ! 👍 Greets from GER, U.
As one of my German viewers, you came to mind while I was there and I wondered if you might have roamed these streets. Too bad the stamp shops are all gone.
@@tedtalksstampsThe stamp shops are mostly gone here in Germany (I live in Stuttgart), but there is still a lot going on in philately. Just today I went to a larger regional stamp fair, with many very friendly private and commercial dealers. There was the Ulm stamp show two weeks ago, which was fantastic. If you go to these events regularly, you get to know people and can have a great and often very informative time. And BTW, one of, what I think is, Germany’s best stamp auction houses, is in Düsseldorf-Felzmann. Picked up some great lots from there in the past. Anyway…Ted, keep up producing these great videos, and farewast_de, I am super impressed by your knowledge of so many areas of philately (I see your comments with Silk’s, etc.) Regards!
Hi Ted! Great video man and I do relate. The same thing happens to me and especially after this election I’m just going to see a shrink. I’m sorry you lost that reference material, I know that is a setback. Love ❤️ you man!
Lived and worked in Germany 2004-2012. Wonderful country. In the larger train stations I always browsed the newsstands and would pick up a monthly stamp magazine, not that I could read German but just to look thru the articles the photos and the dealers listed in the back of it. At that time I felt that stamp collecting was very much alive and well over there, more so than in the US. I did accumulate some German states, I favored Bremen cancels but all are very interesting.
Ted, I went through the same thing a few years ago. In my case I just put the collection aside. I realized that part of the problem was that I had taken on too wide an area, basically world wide. Since then I have concentrated on WWII issued stamps as well as Churchill related items. I did reach out to Chris when he posted his video to let him know that we, all his subscribers, were going to support him what ever he decided to do. By the way, did you drop in to the Montblanc shop? I have a few Montblancs but not the expensive ones. Mine are vintage models that I paid max $100 for.
I guess it must be just one of those things that can happen to collectors. No, I didn’t go into Montblanc; I’d probably get arrested for vagrancy. 😄 There was, however, a Faber-Castell store also, where I did stop in and purchased a pen.
@danielste-marie779 I got the Ambition with an M nib. It’s the first time I’ve spent that much for a pen, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I am very pleased with it.
in late 1996 i lost my father to parkinson and very bad anemia and i lost interest to my stamps...but i kept them until things bettered and we lost an income also counted.I'm glad too because i didn't lose interest...i just set them aside. i was a late person to the PC [I borrowed my brother's] although another hard blow came to us in 2003 when i lost my younger brother at 42 from an illness and he was an allergic to penicillin too which killed him [due to the doctors mistake] I still look unto his loss as a very sad moment in our lives. My mother also left me in May 8th 2009[1 day before Mother's day]. I managed to fend for myself through renting our villas 2 apartments...until 1 day i sold the whole thing and moved to Athens where i am now.
Hi Ted it happened to me also. i was off the stamps for 2 or 3 years. but it came back 😁 in that time i was only collecting banknotes and sold maybe most of my stamps. Maybe sometimes we have too many stamps and we get feed up and wants to explore something else. Now i only have stamps. 🙂
I've kinda hit a roadblock too but for a different reason. I specialize in Tahiti/French Polynesia and Pitcairn Island stamps but the only stamps I need for Tahiti are very pricey. For some reason the lottery won't cooperate.
I think it's a fairly common thing. I sold my entire stamp collection a little over four years ago (for financial reasons), and then started up again a couple of months ago!

Thanks for the kind words, Pastor. And, likewise, thank you for your efforts in supporting the king of hobbies.

Thank you so much for the kind words.
Thanks for the video..... yeah, not too many "brick and mortar" stamp stores still around. Thanks for sharing a glimpse of Dusseldorf with us !
Glad you enjoyed it.
So glad you got a card from Smokey. Very interesting how you can hit this wall. It happens
Even weirder was how their was not even a conscious decision on my part. It was just, pfft, gone, and then, pfft, back again.

Nah, it happened once; now I'm immune. Thanks, Dan.

Yes, working on stamps is great for destressing from the news of the day.

My stamp collecting interest waxes and wanes throughout the year. I know it will come back, so I have never made the decision to get rid of anything.
👍 Yeah, that’s one thing to remember - don’t do anything you might regret later.
But there is a stampshop 400 Meter away from the Düsseldorf Main Station. I live 40 km away from Düsseldorf

@StephKy I wish I could have made it to the Ulm show, but it occurred too late in the month for me. We left Germany about 1 week earlier.

Which one did you get. I have a few F/C pens. They are smooth writers and some at reasonable prices.

Welcome back. Thanks for watching.
Hi Ted, can you make some more German or other contry philatelic shop? Por vavor muito obrigado :)
I would like to.
It's ok with hobbies, but with romantic pursuits.......
