    Organic horticulture is the science and art of growing fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants by following the essential principles of organic agriculture in soil building and conservation, pest management, and heirloom variety preservation.
    Mulches, cover crops, compost, manures, vermi-compost, and mineral supplements are soil-building mainstays that distinguish this type of farming from its commercial counterpart. Through attention to good healthy soil condition, it is expected that insect, fungal, or other problems that sometimes plague plants can be minimized. However, pheromone traps, insecticidal soap sprays, and other pest-control methods available to organic farmers are also utilized by organic horticulturists.

    it is totally a win win situation without a doubt planting fruit trees, but we need to educate the local dumb councils of this importance, about 9 years ago in Essex, Havering council cut down all the fruit trees growing in parks and grass verges. when contacted about a perfect apple tree where i used to live which i used to eat getting cut down, they said we dont want people to slip on the fruit. or was it that they did not want people to get something for free, im guessing the both !!!!!

      I would be angry if I had known that tree, all we can do is support projects that try and reverse the trend. Thanks for watching and sharing, take care.

      Yes "pheromone traps" for fruit tree pests such as Codling moth work well.

    Using dry wood for mulching.. doesnt it suck up the moisture of the soil..

    • @LondonTreeSurgeons-Camden
      @LondonTreeSurgeons-Camden  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting point, if the mulch is drier than the surface layer I think you are right, it probably would, slightly. But overall the benefits of mulch preventing evaporation from the bare soil will far outweigh that, mulching is really only replicating the natural state we would find in a woodland.

      Yes, it sucks up the moisture and holds it there. That’s the purpose. The mulch being absorbent suppresses weeds and retains water.

    Rather than ignoring the scabs and picking up every aphids by hand.. why not make an organic solution..

      Try googling waste decomposer ( NCOF).. its easy.. its effective.. and its cheap.. here in india.. once you get the bottle.. prepare your own culture.. and you are good to go for years..

      Good point an we would always suggest you tackle every pest and disease in as many ways you can as long as it is organic. We have a video coming out soon on organic homemade pesticides but like the harm-full chemical alternatives nothing works perfectly.

      Trees woods & forest gardens - agroforestry arboriculture i have started using it myself.. on trial basis.. as for commercial purpose you need to have good productivity.. so i am using it in a small plot and will compare the results at the time of flowering and fruit setting.. i will update the results..
