I only built a small normal oil refinery while working on my nuclear plant. I also had to build another one so my power grid didn’t crash when I turned on my plutonium setup
Based in Blue Crater I'm doing regular fuel right now for power but also using fuel for the fused modular frame alternate heat-fused frame recipe - when we get the new switches this will become a backup to the nuclear generators in the event of an issue with fuel rod production - nothing worse than a cold-start of the entire grid! Not sure it's worth upgrading to turbo fuel, I'm producing far more packaged fuel than I'll ever need for the automated trucks, but I like a challenge for efficiency so might do it anyway :)
I don't think turbo fuel is worth it. The 1800/min Crude Oil from the coast can produce 60000 MJ of power, using the diluted blend fuel setup. But Sulfur is so valuable for other high-end products that the only recipe that's not wasting too much sulfur is the "Alternate Turbo Blend Fuel". which requires 1200/min Sulfur to increase the power production by 20k to in total 80000 MJ.
Yes, I also went the turbofuel route. Made it modular with blueprints in mind. One module use up 30 oil and 53 compact coal. So when I needed more power I just put down 4 blueprints on top of eachother, 2 in the middle and a waterpump and some connecting with pipes, belts and power. Then make the fuel gens and I had a lot more power. It's fully built now with 14x2 modules so 840 crude oil and 1500 compact coal. Hopefully this will be enough until I make nuclear for real :)
The issue about half way into this video, not having enough power to start up your power plant is the best (and probably only) use case for the geothermal generators. If you tap all the geysers that's 2400 MW (or 2.4 GW if you prefer) Connect all of them up to a separate grid with enough power storage to even out the power production. That separate grid is then the perfect starter motor for any power plant including nuclear. The once the real production is running you just disconnect the geothermal grid again, and it's a great backup for restarting a stalled power production in case of a tripped fuse, clogged input/output somewhere, or a pipe bug messing something up.
You didn't need to have a whole section of machine producing canister, you could have had just a single container full of them feeding the water packager and reuse the cannisters when they get out of the diluted fuel system.
I actually skipped regular fuel and went directly to turbo, but i use the Turbo Blend alternative which i luckily found quite early on. I also prefer the Blend recipe as though it uses almost twice as much Heavy oil it also uses almost half of the much rarer sulfur and requires less buildings. I wonder why you don't build the power plant next to the factory saving yourself a logistic headache, but i guess i'll find out in the next episode. 🙂
There isnt really a logistics nightmare with trains, actually it may be worse next to the factory since then you have more train congestion. Spacing things out allows less time trains have to overlap their travel paths.
You find the nitro rocket fuel, 600 crude makes 144,000 MW and you skip the turbo fuel and compacted coal steps. This saves in the power required to make the fuel, netting even more fuel!
When they increased the oil on the map and reduced the fuel generators to use just 12/m of regular fuel I usually said regular fuel was plenty enough with diluted fuel. But now that we need turbo fuel for other game elements, I'm back to on board for team turbo fuel. But I like the blended version more. Thanks for the video Total!
I did this same thing, probably identical setup. The only issue I ran into was the 600 crude, over time, started to deplete from my large fluid buffer and I had a slight issue with the HoR refineries struggling to stay fed with crude oil (even though the math was exactly correct)
It might have to do with how pipes work when the intersections are vertical. It’s a really annoying issue that I had to figure out when I built my own plant
@@wadz668 Not sure but I remember seeing something about that meter also including backflow. Maybe why it shows 602, but yeah it showed 600 constantly for me but the buffers ended up draining
Fluid mechanics in this game are super wonky. I spent about 5 hours monitoring and dialing in my oil plant to make sure everything was running at 100% efficiency as I didnt want to have to chase down issues later in the game. I could keep all my refineries running at 100% from the crude oil line but the refineries turning HoR to fuel were hit and miss and when I checked the piping flow rates, it looked correct but I was still ending up with the refineries at the end of my production line switching on and off. No matter what I did, the pipes never fully filled and the flow rates were spiking up and down by 20-30. I had 1 pipe at 400m3 and another at 200m3 merging to make 1 full pipe but it just didnt work out regardless of how I set it up and using flow regulators everywhere to dial it in. Ultimately I just overclocked the end refinery so all of them but one are at 100% and the end one runs at like 83% but will make sure the lines dont back up. Once you do that, the math downstream for the fuel gens gets janky so I made the end of my pipe elevated with roughly 1-2m3 of fuel overflowing into a packager for some packaged fuel for my jet pack when I need it and just sinking the excess. I like building everything to exact numbers but sometimes its just not in the cards in this game. Specifically with any of the fluids.
12:50 Thats where I build my base and small part mega factory as well as my first few space elevator part factories ;-;. There are pure nodes for like everything there but the lag is real. Also I built my big factory for all the little parts on the 3 way edge of each of those biomes, so it changes color and fog level depending on where I stand, which I'm not sure if I hate or not. I'm hopeful 1.0 improves things there.
The numbers are wrong. 600 Crude with the HOR alt is 4:3 so 800 HOR which using DPF (Refinery) or the DBF (Blender) makes 2:1 or 1600 Fuel. I mean, unless 100 Fuel was being used to convert Rubber (best use of PR + Water) to make some plastic, then ok, maybe.
Sorry but you've confused me here, at 6:00 you say packaged fuel, do you mean packaged turbo fuel? What recipes are you using overall? I already have a blender making fuel form heavy residue + water with the Diluted Fuel recipe (no packagers), would I be turning fuel into turbo fuel or packaging the fuel? I was looking at turning Oil > Heavy Oil Residue > Diluted Fuel (blender) -> Turbo Fuel seems much more efficient use of Heavy Residue and therefore, Oil or is it the production rates I'm overlooking?
You have the best setup for max output, I see so many people bragging about their use of other turbofuel alts, and I giggle cuz they haven't done the math, or their calculator was on drugs.
@@daveisnothere um, what math would that be? Are you saying that using the blender recipe for non-turbo fuel results in less turbo fuel per unit of crude or that the blender fuel recipe consumes more energy and therefore less energy is produced per unit of crude overall after deductions? Desperately waiting for the update so i can play again. That power update would change so much what i've built already. Plus, the majority of my factories are in the northern forest.

There aren't many people on YT doing megabuilds in long standing series that I can find other than Kibitz and he's already finished U8 and has started on Cities Skylines 2 videos as well :(
I've always wanted to do a packaged fuel power plant as a way to put it out of the way, but the logistics always stumped me - just making sure there's enough cannisters, that the loop doesn't stall, etc. Might try again for 1.0.
I’m trying to do your setup now. Watching this video over and over for a week now trying to reverse engineer it lol. Hope if there was better view of build plan.
It can be worth it to bp and build excessively large power storage, maybe smaller 10 GWh plants all over map, or a giant power tower you just slap a few floors onto now and then. If you build like 10x your max grid cap, you get about 10-12h when you initially start teetering past the cap. It really helps in case of things like upgrades, or dedicated server if someone goofs up power plant or overbuilds. The priority power switch can also help as a last restort to shut down low priority factories. But you may want to build factories with a minimal capacity or big output buffers in case of power outages, to prolong the recovery window before catastrophic failure, when a hard global restart can be very painful. And geothermal can be great on a separate grid to charge power storage, run hoverpacks and in-building hypertubes.
He is actually smart playing human psychology like he is. The mind is naturally attracted to "bigger" things. "Man searches through 10,000 pennies" is going to get more clicks and is more appealing than "man searches through $100 in pennies" it's weird, but it's proven.
I turned 600 Oil into 74,100 MW. So with 600 oil turning into 800 fuel / min using the packaged fuel recipe. I added 600 Nitrogen Gas, 800 Sulfur, and 400 coal / min in 8 separate blenders to make 1,200 Rocket Fuel and 200 Compacted Coal / min. I know its a year after this video so this may not have been possible then with the available recipes. Still its the best now. If you want to double it for 148,200 MW you can use 4 blenders instead of 8. Put 2 power shards in each, and 4 Somersloops. Sure that 16 Sloops for an extra 74,100 MW so you have to decide if that is worth it.
@@romanz2861 Top Center near those oil wells in the wet lands. I trained in my nitrogen from top left, and there is also a sulfur nearby which is almost enough. Is this still up to date? I just turned 300 crude oil through alt HOR and blender Turbo Fuel into 300 Turbo Fuel, so "just" half of your output. How does this work?
@TotalXclipse Thanks for the Reply. Still, Crude Oil -> HOR -> dil. Fuel -> Blender Turbo Fuel = 450 Crude Oil into 600 Turbo Fuel equals 20GW. Even if you use 600 Crude Oil, that would give you approx. 27GW. Where do the 40GW come from? Somersloops?
I haven't got to that part of the video, but a lot of people package and unpackage because depending on how far you're moving fluids, it's easier to move items than fluids and unpackage it. Plus you can sink extra packaged items but you can't sink fluids
I've had the same issue with the stuttering in the estuary. I've also had to give up on lumen, it seems to chew through my 3050's VRAM in minutes, and the textures aren't good enough on the foundations to build on. I'm also working on a similar fuel project and was debating on whether or not to integrate turbo-fuel; I'm not super sure I will. Right now, I've got oil going to polymer resin to residual plastic going into packaged fuel and those up to the power plants. That's got me 520 plastic and enough fuel for 40 power plants -- should get me to 1040plastic and 80 powerplants @200% overclock on those same oil nodes.
Turbo fuel is the power source that just mocks me from a distance, its biggest bottleneck is sulfur and there isnt a whole lot of that to go around sadly :c
@@TotalXclipse I should have specified “Heavy Turbo Fuel” which uses only refineries and no diluted fuel. I don’t see anyone using it and didn’t know if there’s a negative I’m missing. It makes 30 a minute. I’ve started building using that recipe. Thanks.
@@KennethSmith59 the downside of using heavy turbo fuel is that amount of sulfer needed for compacted coal. the best and most efficent recipe would be turbo blend fuel as it uses less sulfer and outputs 45 turbo fuel per minute
The entire map in U8 is stutterfucked, especially on dedicated server. Also, travelling too fast (riding train, any road vehicle, slide jumping before jetpack, hypertube) will crash the client, possibly the server. Normal run and jetpack is about the fastest travel, switching to hover near rail lines, power lines, and bases, to conserve fuel. FYI use Biofuel in jetpack. You can legit fly 2-3km with ease if you run-slide-jump off a tall building.
But even so, time saved with nudge and blueprint delete offsets and is greater than time lost via slow travel and crashes, especially if you limit travel by having materials get feteched via train on an as-needed basis, or popup local mini factory, or calculate mats needed and pre-ship via train. A mini-mall bp and train unload manifold could help speed up the process of setting up a popup build site for bigger projects.
Clarify: Hypertube cannons, of the linear rail gun or circular cyclotron variety, these high speed hypertubes can crash the game. Also, they may simply just not work too well, as the new physics engine used with the UE5 upgrade changed more than vehicle physics.

@@TheLargeLebowski Another terrible comparison. Turbofuel is STRICTLY worse than nitro rocket fuel, stock rocket fuel, or even just good old diluted fuel. Turbofuel is just for reusing the compacted coal coming out from the nitro rocket fuel process. It's not subjective, it's STRICTLY worse.
Your title is more than a little inaccurate though I guess "I turned 600 oil, and a ton of plastic, coal, sulfur, and an ocean of pumped water, into 40,000 MW", it could be a bit of a mouth full. Still the point is that there are many more resources that go into this than just oil. Even if you got a pass on the water, the coal and sulfur are also as rare and valuable as the oil compared to everything else.
You can do this on the north west of the map, there is coal, oil and sulfur with the sea near, you can do a smaller setup, I'm producing ~1100 turbo fuel with 600 crude oil, 750 sulfur and 600 coal You just need to overclock all extractors to 250% Hope this help

I just turned 300 crude oil through alt HOR and blender Turbo Fuel into 300 Turbo Fuel, so "just" half of your output. How does this work?
blender turbo fuel is a different recipe - you need to turn it to diluted fuel with HOR alt first then turn it to turbo
The industrial fluid storage looks like a giant grenade 😂.
how to manage about PS in pipeline without pump???
it starts arround 8 minute mark but i dont get all what to use is there a spreadsheet?
HOR, to diluted packaged fuel, then creating turbo fuel and packaging that i dont get it realy xD
I built 110 power generators with rocket fuel , 600 oil, 71,500 MW.
How come you are packaging the turbo fuel? Why not just pipe turbo fuel directly into the fuel powered generators?
I haven't got to that part of the video, but a lot of people package and unpackage because depending on how far you're moving fluids, it's easier to move items than fluids and unpackage it. Plus you can sink extra packaged items but you can't sink fluids
What area of map is this?
Im confused why you are using packagers at all
Turbo fuel is the power source that just mocks me from a distance, its biggest bottleneck is sulfur and there isnt a whole lot of that to go around sadly :c
“Last episode”, okay I’ll bite. No playlist in description to click into no other links. Sometimes it’s not the algorithm guys… yeesh.
It's there... Click description, scroll down to the video cards and then it's the first of the four videos displayed ☺️
Why not use the turbo fuel alternative recipe and bypass diluted fuel?
Because I don't have blenders unlocked yet :)
@@TotalXclipse I should have specified “Heavy Turbo Fuel” which uses only refineries and no diluted fuel. I don’t see anyone using it and didn’t know if there’s a negative I’m missing. It makes 30 a minute. I’ve started building using that recipe. Thanks.
@@KennethSmith59 the downside of using heavy turbo fuel is that amount of sulfer needed for compacted coal. the best and most efficent recipe would be turbo blend fuel as it uses less sulfer and outputs 45 turbo fuel per minute
i dont normally do turbo, just diluted till i get nuclear. but im lazy lol prefer to work with belts than pipes. pipes and trains drive me mad lol
Wait a second if im correct they double the power u get from fuel gens in 1.0 Wich means u get 80 000 MW that cant be true...
Also crossing many biome zone boundaries instantly crashes the game client.
My brother rented a server I played on said server for 200+ hours then one day I put together a new pc installed the game on said pc and now I can’t join the server I’ve tried all suggestions I even uninstalled and reinstalled and still can’t join any have a suggestion?
Check your new firewall isn't blocking server access?
@@TotalXclipse it shows it is allowing access
I suppose I can go back to windows firewall see if that works
hmmm I've no idea then@@lwreaper187
This should still work in 1.0, yeah?
but why would you use this when you have nitro rocket fuel?
@@BPFACTS88 Why does one climb K2 when Everest is right there? Because I intend to do both!
@@TheLargeLebowski lol thats a terrible comparison, theres nothing challenging about these setups
@@BPFACTS88 Okay, why does one eat a bearclaw when a donut is right there? Does that cater more to your sensibilities?
@@TheLargeLebowski Another terrible comparison. Turbofuel is STRICTLY worse than nitro rocket fuel, stock rocket fuel, or even just good old diluted fuel. Turbofuel is just for reusing the compacted coal coming out from the nitro rocket fuel process. It's not subjective, it's STRICTLY worse.

Why term it as 40000MW and not just 40GW?
Your title is more than a little inaccurate though I guess "I turned 600 oil, and a ton of plastic, coal, sulfur, and an ocean of pumped water, into 40,000 MW", it could be a bit of a mouth full. Still the point is that there are many more resources that go into this than just oil. Even if you got a pass on the water, the coal and sulfur are also as rare and valuable as the oil compared to everything else.
You can do this on the north west of the map, there is coal, oil and sulfur with the sea near, you can do a smaller setup, I'm producing ~1100 turbo fuel with 600 crude oil, 750 sulfur and 600 coal
You just need to overclock all extractors to 250%
Hope this help
@@Le_Ashe I had a baby already since I posted that comment. Ok, not really but it was 9 months ago lol. I actually enjoy how complex this game is.
@@K162KingPin The baby is your factory lol
I love this game so much, i spent like 5hours yesterday just to try to find pretty walls idea for my factory
If I were a beginner and watched this video I would be more confused than before.
In my opinion, it's really poorly explained and there are too many incomprehensible cuts.
so much talk dude and trash video....
I made 600 oil to 80 GW
