If you're not recording with an analog compressor I would still typically always use an EQ first still to just clean up the vocals before adding any compression. That's my preference!
@@goobstersroom thanks for the quick response bro. I want to get more into mixing vocals but I don’t have the waves subscription, I’ve just been using like stock fl studio vsts mostly but I’m slowly getting the hang of it.
At 10:22 I brushed over this which it can if you’re too heavy handed or not careful but I felt like these vocals needed it so I didn’t see an issue. Again it varies from song to song, source to source you just have to reference other songs and use your best judgment
I got a new PC with maxxed out specs and I cant fix bad latency while live monitoring in ableton live... ive tried all the tutorials and cant find the fix is ableton just garbage or what am I doing wrong? I had zero latency on my macbook with worse specs and the same gear im using now
I'm not too sure I don't use ableton so I can't really say... If you're using a lot of plugins while recording just try to make sure they have a low latency mode for recording. If you can lower your buffer length as low as you possibly can that would help. And this is more of a pro tools thing but there's a delay compensation option that helps keep all your tracks in sync together I'm not sure if Ableton has a feature like that but just look up delay compensation and see if you can find something online. If you have a maxed out computer then it should just be a setting that you probably don't have on right whether that be on a plugin or in the DAW Another thing is to make sure that you have the most up to date drivers for your audio interface because that could cause issues as well. To find them just look up whatever the make and model of your interface is on google and then put drivers after that and you should be able to find them. Once you download and install the most recent up to date drivers make sure to restart your computer and then test it from there. If none of that works you could join my Patreon (link in description) and I have a membership option that's $15/month where we could hop on a call and I could provide technical support to help you with the issue but I would try everything else I mentioned out first unless you want to just get straight to the point then you could book the call immediately. Do u use the same aux bus for the lead and the stack, and on the stack do u remove a lil more of the bass or sub frequencies on the lead dub or u leave it and only remove whatever bad frequencies stick out or get in the way?. How bout the stacks?? R they on the same lead vox bus as the lead and dub bus?? Holla back. Been looking for a video like thiz for 10 months since i got out of jail homie. Good shit
Yeah bro you basically got it I do route all the stacks to the same lead bus and as far as the processing goes I go over that in the stack section, I remove lowend frequencies so they don’t pile up bad when paired with the lead vocals same thing with the dubs. Such as removing the lows and making space for the clarity of the vocals to shine through by cutting the frequencies in the stack where I wanted the presence of the lead vocals to shine through

It’s all in the recording, you have to record like there’s No mixing, mix like there’s no mastering. Jayblicky got it right with it all being proper Room treatment, microphone technique, gain staging, preamp and compression etc… That’s why getting the cleanest possible recording is super important because if you do that then the mixing process will be much more enjoyable and take less to get to a better end result! If you wanna learn more I have a video on my channel called, “Why your vocal recordings suck!” Which goes more in depth into all these other concepts!
One more question about this way of mixing. I fuck wit the vocal chain on here for this style G, but my next question is, lets say we didnt record in/print with a compressor in the recording stage, does the order of the plugins change. Like should i add a 1176 by waves first then glue it after wit the CLA2A ONE AFTER THE OTHER, or throw a comp on, then eq, then throw a 2A then eq again if needed? Lmk these r things ive been tryna figure out for a long time.
If you didn’t record with compression I would use an 1176 or something a bit faster first to tame the transients and dynamics of the vocals first always that’s the right idea! Use that 1176 first only for the transients so that way when you hit it with another compressor such as the CLA2A. That way each compressor isn’t doing too much which will help the vocals sound more natural with less audible pumping or artifacts coming from one compressor doing too much
