This was a very strong Northants side. David Sales for example was unlucky not to play for England. Curran, Ambrose, Bailey, Capel, Mal Loye (who didn't play in this final) Paul Taylor and Emburey were all internationals, and despite Northants not being seen as a fashionable (!) county, it does produce some good players. The pitch at Northampton is really slow though - or tends to be, so that's a problem they have to contend with.
Bob Willis winning the no shit Sherlock award there. "His job is to score runs". An opener, in a cricket final, at Lord's. Great piece of insight there.
I was 26 at the time. Of the players taking part. Kevin Curran died a few years ago. David Capel died back in the summer at just 57. Premature, as he was just four years older than my brother (who is a contemporary of Mike Atherton).
Handy all rounder (FC averages of 28 with the bat and 30 with the ball, but was even more successful in the one day games - especially with the ball). He stayed with Lancs. One of Wisdens cricketers of the year in 1999. I believe he's in the pub trade now.
@@RamjiRao_Listening Pakistan tour started in July Wasim akram was making come back in the team after shoulder injury and he was captain of Pakistan team at that time he skipped county season
Enjoyed this I was there and a pleasure to see Curtly

Farebrother a good left handed batsman .

Very sad. I remember those players from when I was about 12 years old.
Beefy: “ Austin a little bit short, and a little bit wide”
True, true
Kevin Curran passed away today while going for a jog in zimbabwe
Peter Martin looks like he should have been better than he was- physique, action.... it all seems to add up to a dangerous world-class bowler.
Ian Austin. Tubby little hero in this one. Now works as a taxi driver and rents a council house in Wigan - a little bit different to Athers and co!
Proper person
Jesus Christ almighty

One day game, 1996, I'm guessing a total near 180 for Lancashire. E.g Atherton taking 98 balls for 48.
Is Sunil Gavaskar gracing the commentary box.
21:12 😂😂😂
Where is Waseem Akram in this match
He was on national duty Pakistan was touring England at that time
@@hailodhi disagree. This match was after June. By then it was England India series.

Mike Watkinson, the wicket Luke's very good.
Atherton batting like it’s a test match
We won the trophy though.....
Slow cricket is best, even in a one day match IMO.
Tbh I thought his pedestrian knock had lost the game for them.
Some mullet Willis is sporting at the end!
No Great Wasim There, Maybe Busy With National Duty.
