I had the privilege of watching Lea Salonga live over 20 years ago when I saw her performance in Miss Saigon. I took my Mom for a Mother's day gift - front row centre. To this day she sang my favourite version of "On my own" from Les Miserable ever! I think she is the best singer to come out of the Philippines thus far.

Her voice is like a very sharp samurai that cuts so clean and hits with power. You may never notice her breathing that some may think that it's a lip-synch but it's not. Yes, anything by her is great so do Pocahontas...& Milan, Aladdin & all of her theatre work! My fav performance of hers is a duet with Michael Ball from Les Miserables called A Little Fall of Rain... Just for reference she was the singing voice of Jasmine in the original "Aladdin" by Disney as well as the original "Mulan" (Edited out Pocahontas cause I was wrong!) Yes, anything by her is great so do Pocahontas...& Milan, Aladdin & all of her theatre work! My fav performance of hers is a duet with Michael Ball from Les Miserables called A Little Fall of Rain... I've seen & heard it so many times, but it still makes my cry. Every. Single. Time! She's so amazing! Great reaction! We should all be awed & thankful as she's the one who opened the door for all the amazing filipino singers we have today!

First of all, just wanted to mention you were spot on when you mentioned Disney princess because she's the singing voice of two Disney princess--Jasmine and Mulan. Second, Lea is no stranger to the West End since she was the original Kim in Miss Saigon (major tear-jerker and powerful) and Eponine in Les Mes. The extremely accomplished Lea (pronounced LAY-AH) Salonga is one of my favorite voices ever!!! Please PLEASE react to her in the role of Kim in Miss Saigon. Specifically her duet song, "Sun and Moon". Its perfection!! Ps- You mentioned Disney, she was the singing voice for Mulan and Princess Jasmine. Lea was also deemed an official Disney Legend by Disney in 2011.

Lea is the singing voice of Jasmine and Mulan, not Pocahontas (though she has sung the Pocahontas song in concert - “Colors of the Wind” - as well as many other Disney characters). And she was in several seasons of The Voice of the Philippines as a coach. Lea is considered the “broadway diva” of the Philippines. She got international fame for creating the lead role of Kim in MISS SAIGON in London (age 18) and on broadway (age 20) and also won all the major awards for her portrayals. In her home country of the Philippines she began working in theater at age 7, had her first lead role (Annie) at age 9, released her first album at age 10 (it was certified gold), and did various film, tv (hosted a musical tv show when she was 12-14 with her brother), theater, concerts and albums before she went to London as a teenager.

Yes, Lea Salonga became the voice of Disney just as you surmised, singing 3 or 4 of the theme songs for their movies (like “Aladdin”). She is both powerful and richly soulful at the same time. You ought to check out her audition-still on the internet-of her being picked for the first time to sing for Miss Saigon when she was like 14 years old. Lea has become one of the few "Dames/Queens" of the Broadway stage since her arrival in Miss Saigon in the 1980's?? I do recall a documentary about finding "Kim" in which Lea was eventually successful, but it's a great look at where she began her "American Dream"

Oh hell yeah!! Lea is the first Kim in Miss Saigon and she got that part when she was only 18. Known to have a perfect pitch and enunciation, she is one of the best. Also sang 2 of the Disney songs: Aladding (A whole new world) and Mulan (Reflection). I am one of her biggest fans and she is also a big ARMY (V being her bias) :)

From what I understand, she's the Asian version of Elaine Paige/Julie Andrews. Basically, she's "up there" within the musical theater community and possibly the lone Asian singer/actress at the top of the foodchain,lol. She's the only one who became the singing voice of 2 Disney Princesses as of now, and not any Princesses but the ones that sung 2 of the most iconic Disney songs of all time.
