  • Taiwanese lawmakers shoved, tackled and hit each other in parliament on Friday (May 17) in a bitter dispute about reforms to the chamber, just days before president-elect Lai Ching-te takes office without a legislative majority.
In chaotic scenes, lawmakers surged around the speaker's seat, some leaping over tables and pulling colleagues to the floor. Though calm soon returned, there were more scuffles in the afternoon.

Taiwanese are very proud of this because they believe this is true democracy when people can express themselves freely. Taiwanese demean Singaporeans "choose livelihood over democracy" and "can vote but have no democracy". I don't know what good has come out of Taiwan-style democracy. Singaporeans have used their political rights to vote for an elite, incorrupt, highly-efficient government who has united migrants from different ethnic and religious backgrounds into one people and led them to build a first-world country where people live in a safe, harmonious, prosperous country with high standard of living. If Taiwanese had such leaders like Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong and such a excellent government, they would surely be like Singaporeans, continue to support them with their voting power to mandate them to continue to rule.

To give some insight behind the video. According to the DPP(current government )male legislator, at first he claimed that he did not remember that he had tackled a female legislator from an opponent party and knocked her off a "stadium" by grabbing her ankles! After people told him it's all caught on the video, he then explained that he accidentally "slipped on a piece of paper" which caused him to leap in the air and bumped into her 🤣 Now the DPP social media, news, TV stations are painting him as a hero for saving Taiwan's democracy.

He gave interviews at the hospital (while he claimed he was in extreme pain 😆 ) and accused the opponent party members of "attacking him" and calling the dean heartless.
Here comes the best part, later on a security video from the hallway angle was released. Showing he and at least 15 DPP members were breaking the door to ambush the dean from behind. In the video, you can hear he was encouraged by a senior DPP member to charge (this senior member is well-known for sleeping with a coworker, for which he claimed he was just renting her room for $8000NTD, such event earned his nickname Wang8000) After he was sent to the emergency, the senior member simply went home 😆 🤣 你既然都要學習事實查證了,我就加碼幫你再分享王8000慫恿啪啪熊爬人牆摔倒後討拍的事件咯~

Over the last eight years, the DPP has committed numerous disgraceful acts, and they've tried everything to prevent the bill from being passed. Those who have closely followed recent party negotiations know that DPP legislators never seriously read the provisions but merely delayed proceedings with the aim of obstructing the bill's passage. They even proposed 80 different versions of the bill, with each version differing only in punctuation and a few words. Despite their majority in Congress, the DPP failed to deliver on the reforms promised over the past eight years. It's clear that there's no bill that can't be passed, only those that the DPP doesn't want to pass. Holding all the power, they have allowed Taiwan's wealth gap to reach 66 times while deceiving the international community with claims that only the DPP can protect Taiwan's sovereignty, resulting in severe hardship for the people of Taiwan.

Taiwan’s ancestors immigrated from China’s Fujian Province (Qing Dynasty) 400 years ago (to steal or usurp aborigines’ land). Most of the immigrants were exiles or poor people, just like Australia today. KMT (jointly fought with the United States in World War II Japan) retreated from mainland China in 1938, losing to the Chinese Communist.

@@brunoccjthe KMT was defeated in 1949, not 1938. Also, although the Chinese inhabited Taiwan hundreds of years ago, these were mainly pirates and fishermen. It was mainly Dutch colonists that displaced the native residents, not the Chinese authorities. The Dutch imported Chinese slave laborers into Taiwan, which increased the Chinese population there. The Dutch were later overthrown by the Qing Dynasty, which gave China official control until the Japanese invasion of 1895. Taiwan was returned back to China following ww2, but the civil war forced the KMT into Taiwan.
It should be noted that the Qing Chinese avoided mixing with the natives due to segregational beliefs. As a consequence, the natives occupied the eastern island regions, while the Chinese settled the west.

    另外,从现场打斗影片来看,议员们还是比较克制,只是部分使用了抱摔、裸绞等杀伤力不强的地面技术,并未使用一些搏击、肘击、拳击等会造成严重伤害的格斗技术。

    Fight for democracy!!
The number of legislators from the KMT and TPP parties exceeded half of the seats in the legislature. They tried to forcibly pass their proposed bills without public disclosure or discussion. This was not democratic. To block these unreasonable bills, the DPP party clashed with these two parties.
If bills are created through private agreements and passed forcibly without discussion and public disclosure, can democratic countries accept such a legislative process? Clearly, this completely violates democratic procedures.
The KMT has always been a pro-China party. The TPP is a new emerging party in Taiwan that has risen in recent years. In the early 2024 legislative elections, many young people voted for the TPP because they were long tired of the ongoing party struggles and hoped that the TPP could bring a new atmosphere to Taiwan's legislature. However, after gaining seats, the TPP repeatedly cooperated with the KMT to propose bills that favored Chinese interests instead of benefiting the Taiwanese people.
Regarding the attempt by a majority of legislators who disregard democratic procedures to forcibly pass bills, I do not consider this conflict shameful but rather a fight for democracy. If you are someone who follows international affairs, you might understand Taiwan's situation on the global stage. Taiwan constantly faces pressure from China, which often uses military threats and harbors intentions to invade Taiwan. If the DPP peacefully allow these pro-China legislators, who hold a majority in the legislature, to pass bills without public disclosure or discussion, Taiwan might end up like Hong Kong, and the world could lose another democratic country. Most Taiwanese people support democracy and do not want to see Taiwan become like Hong Kong.
On the night following the conflict, many young people gathered outside the legislature to protest, expressing strong opposition to the undemocratic legislative process.
