Major brawl breaks out in Taiwan parliament

- Taiwanese lawmakers shoved, tackled and hit each other in parliament on Friday (May 17) in a bitter dispute about reforms to the chamber, just days before president-elect Lai Ching-te takes office without a legislative majority.
In chaotic scenes, lawmakers surged around the speaker's seat, some leaping over tables and pulling colleagues to the floor. Though calm soon returned, there were more scuffles in the afternoon.

Oh, Times, you miss the part someone snatched the document from an elderly chairperson.
and he said to the media that he respect the elderly
If the elderly chairman forcibly passes a bill in violation of democratic procedures, what he does is not necessarily right. You need to understand the facts before making a comment.
@@rwejiq Did you miss the b*tch talking her way out of the situation when she hit something on somebody's face . Just cut the crap and drama and behave like grown up adults. A typical DPP politician lacks class and morals taking a woman down like an MMA fighter. He does not realize how detrimental and low his behavior is. Nothing can be lower than those types of people.
Taiwanese are very proud of this because they believe this is true democracy when people can express themselves freely. Taiwanese demean Singaporeans "choose livelihood over democracy" and "can vote but have no democracy". I don't know what good has come out of Taiwan-style democracy. Singaporeans have used their political rights to vote for an elite, incorrupt, highly-efficient government who has united migrants from different ethnic and religious backgrounds into one people and led them to build a first-world country where people live in a safe, harmonious, prosperous country with high standard of living. If Taiwanese had such leaders like Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong and such a excellent government, they would surely be like Singaporeans, continue to support them with their voting power to mandate them to continue to rule.

I'm not sure this is true, but this is what I've heard. Please fact check at your own discretion.
The KMT and TPP parties had the majority seats. They tried to pass a bill without a public disclosure or parliament discussion. To block these bills (unreasonable or not), the DPP party clashed with the KMT and TPP parties.
all that energy from pineapple cakes, bubble teas, taiwanese hamburgers, have to be released somehow somewhere

It's the National Party which started the brawl to bring shame and disgrace to the Taiwanese Parliament this time. When the National Party becomes the ruling party, the DDP will do it.

These brawls are staged gentlemen's agreements to buy the favor of the public so that older Taiwanese folk will believe they are being fought for.
@@NewkFritz I didn't say they want to be like Singapore. I said if they had good leaders like Lee Kwan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong and an effective ruling party like Singapore, they would have continued to vote for such a party to mandate them to continue to rule. If you employ a good manager and your business is doing well, why would you wish to remove him and replace him with another one? Unless you think someone can do a better job.
To give some insight behind the video. According to the DPP(current government )male legislator, at first he claimed that he did not remember that he had tackled a female legislator from an opponent party and knocked her off a "stadium" by grabbing her ankles! After people told him it's all caught on the video, he then explained that he accidentally "slipped on a piece of paper" which caused him to leap in the air and bumped into her 🤣 Now the DPP social media, news, TV stations are painting him as a hero for saving Taiwan's democracy.
Fake story
From the footage, you have what appears to me to be the male DDP politician did a MMA 'physical grabbing' on the poor lady with the extremely high probability it will get her physically injured & possibly killed! What the heck is Wang mei hui talking?
@mediationlight2023 😆 lol, you are pretty lazy for being a DPP cyber warrior. Read different news, cross-examine them, and draw your own conclusions. Don't ONLY watch DPP medias ok~😅 That male DPP lawmaker had interviews with reporters... or you only watched the "edited versions" 🙄 怎麼民進黨的網軍程度都這麼差嗎?
@mediationlight2023 Allow me to reveal another behind the scene insight for you fun facts check list then 😉 A male DPP legislator who climbed on people's heads 😲 to try to attack the legislation house dean (he failed) and fell to the floor as a result was sent to the emergency later. He gave interviews at the hospital (while he claimed he was in extreme pain 😆 ) and accused the opponent party members of "attacking him" and calling the dean heartless.
Here comes the best part, later on a security video from the hallway angle was released. Showing he and at least 15 DPP members were breaking the door to ambush the dean from behind. In the video, you can hear he was encouraged by a senior DPP member to charge (this senior member is well-known for sleeping with a coworker, for which he claimed he was just renting her room for $8000NTD, such event earned his nickname Wang8000) After he was sent to the emergency, the senior member simply went home 😆 🤣 你既然都要學習事實查證了,我就加碼幫你再分享王8000慫恿啪啪熊爬人牆摔倒後討拍的事件咯~
@jertan2171 exactly, right? But no no no, that's called DPP defending Taiwan democracy according to their "green medias" 🙄 He is a hero in their suppters' eyes, who cares about what laws we were trying to pass that night, I need to show my supporters how hard I "fight" for our opinions 😉
This is what the West will call a "vibrant" democracy in Taiwan like in HK during the "Revolution of the Times" days.
It's what the West loved to have for these places so they can't focus on economic development.
I think you meant US. EU is also strongly influenced by US.
You do realize this isn't the first time this happened right? Taiwan is actually known for those parliament brawls, it's almost a tradition for them at this point, once they threw rotten fish at eachother to prove a point on fishing legislation, has nothing to do with the west.
I'm taiwanese. I have to say that this time the majority (over 60%) support the controversial reform bill. It makes our government more transparent.
Some Chinese Communist Party legislators are sponsoring black-box legislation within Taiwan's Legislative Yuan. They force the bill to be filed without content and discussion. This is unacceptable to the people. On May 24, 100,000 people took to the streets to protest against the black-box legislation, which has no content and no discussion. , forced voting, shameful opposition party!
Wow they even have their names printed in large fonts on their vests...
Most shameful parliamentarians ever! Disgraceful
Politics is not without bloodshed, either in light or the shadow.
Taiwanese are very proud of their style of democracy : the party members who have lost in the election still have the right to fight (literally) against any decision made by the elected government, ignoring the parliamentary votes.
Legalised law without vote? where's the democracy? using "security" is lame excuse to push law without majority vote.
At least it shows that people can be vocal and show their feelings ✅. This would never happen in the People Republic of China, mainland.😑
Because Peoples Republic of China is a one party state and would NEVER allow this nonsense in its congress. When the Chinese congress meets its to create serious policy not this buffoonery that takes place in Taiwan. No wonder the mainland political system is superior to this joke of a Parliament. .
Fyi Mainland China = People’s Republic of China, established in 1949/ Taiwan=Republic of China, established in 1911.
Republic of China (ROC) is the official name of Taiwan, according to its own constitution. BTW, you are too sensitive. Noone mentioned PRC here LOL

Because there will not be such a low-level primitive society in mainland China
Reliving the 90s!
So what was the reforms going to do?
utter shame
丟臉
Over the last eight years, the DPP has committed numerous disgraceful acts, and they've tried everything to prevent the bill from being passed. Those who have closely followed recent party negotiations know that DPP legislators never seriously read the provisions but merely delayed proceedings with the aim of obstructing the bill's passage. They even proposed 80 different versions of the bill, with each version differing only in punctuation and a few words. Despite their majority in Congress, the DPP failed to deliver on the reforms promised over the past eight years. It's clear that there's no bill that can't be passed, only those that the DPP doesn't want to pass. Holding all the power, they have allowed Taiwan's wealth gap to reach 66 times while deceiving the international community with claims that only the DPP can protect Taiwan's sovereignty, resulting in severe hardship for the people of Taiwan.
Can someone please explain to me what the bill is?
Boy, what a scandal
Shame indeed.
The guy trying to step over the crowd is a DPP joke. He emphasizes resisting China and protecting Taiwan, but the first-aid kits he sells (under TW Department of Defense’s project) are bought from Taobao (made in China) and resold at a price 10 times the cost. He must try his best to perform, because this legislator is not elected, but appointed by DPP based on the quota of the party's vote ratio.
cost 10 USD vs price 100 USD
The US is giving the good example. Taiwan follows.
你是什么玩意?

This is so chaotic. I hope they find the best resolve for the better future :(
this hardly a brawl, more like some light shoving.
1:27 She is saying Republic of China while the translation is Taiwan. Why does this channel intentionally mistranslate what she was saying?
Because there is a general gaslighting campaign to erase the inconvenient name of this country. Hard to call claims by the PRC that this island is part of China nonsense if you know the name of the political entity ruling the island calls itself the Republic of China.

American vs Chinese fighting, I didn’t see any Taiwanese here
Taiwan’s ancestors immigrated from China’s Fujian Province (Qing Dynasty) 400 years ago (to steal or usurp aborigines’ land). Most of the immigrants were exiles or poor people, just like Australia today. KMT (jointly fought with the United States in World War II Japan) retreated from mainland China in 1938, losing to the Chinese Communist.
Taiwanese aborigines and Maori are of the same culture.
@@brunoccjthe KMT was defeated in 1949, not 1938. Also, although the Chinese inhabited Taiwan hundreds of years ago, these were mainly pirates and fishermen. It was mainly Dutch colonists that displaced the native residents, not the Chinese authorities. The Dutch imported Chinese slave laborers into Taiwan, which increased the Chinese population there. The Dutch were later overthrown by the Qing Dynasty, which gave China official control until the Japanese invasion of 1895. Taiwan was returned back to China following ww2, but the civil war forced the KMT into Taiwan.
It should be noted that the Qing Chinese avoided mixing with the natives due to segregational beliefs. As a consequence, the natives occupied the eastern island regions, while the Chinese settled the west.

Fight for democracy!!
The number of legislators from the KMT and TPP parties exceeded half of the seats in the legislature. They tried to forcibly pass their proposed bills without public disclosure or discussion. This was not democratic. To block these unreasonable bills, the DPP party clashed with these two parties.
If bills are created through private agreements and passed forcibly without discussion and public disclosure, can democratic countries accept such a legislative process? Clearly, this completely violates democratic procedures.
The KMT has always been a pro-China party. The TPP is a new emerging party in Taiwan that has risen in recent years. In the early 2024 legislative elections, many young people voted for the TPP because they were long tired of the ongoing party struggles and hoped that the TPP could bring a new atmosphere to Taiwan's legislature. However, after gaining seats, the TPP repeatedly cooperated with the KMT to propose bills that favored Chinese interests instead of benefiting the Taiwanese people.
Regarding the attempt by a majority of legislators who disregard democratic procedures to forcibly pass bills, I do not consider this conflict shameful but rather a fight for democracy. If you are someone who follows international affairs, you might understand Taiwan's situation on the global stage. Taiwan constantly faces pressure from China, which often uses military threats and harbors intentions to invade Taiwan. If the DPP peacefully allow these pro-China legislators, who hold a majority in the legislature, to pass bills without public disclosure or discussion, Taiwan might end up like Hong Kong, and the world could lose another democratic country. Most Taiwanese people support democracy and do not want to see Taiwan become like Hong Kong.
On the night following the conflict, many young people gathered outside the legislature to protest, expressing strong opposition to the undemocratic legislative process.
But following the majority vote is a democratic process by itself.....
@@kaiyazubibi Without discussion, without consultation, without enough time for each member of Congress to read the entire bill, it was passed directly. Even the members of the caucus who proposed the bill did not fully understand the content of the bill, so they voted with majority violence. Is this your democracy?
