    They say pimpin' ain't easy! Enjoy our brand new series with the legendary Godfather (aka Papa Shango, Kama, Soultaker), exclusively on Title Match Network. Produced live in Las Vegas, April 2022.
    Back in the day, Godfather was known as Papa Shango in WWF. One of the most infamous (and somewhat controversial) storylines in the early 90s featured Papa Shango putting a voodoo curse on the fan-favorite Ultimate Warrior.
    The imagery in this Papa Shango vs Ultimate Warrior feud is the stuff of legends. Find out why Sid Vicious (then known as Sid Justice) leaving WWF is the reason these matches took place.

      Shango!!! It was even said that everything was being set for a return of his persona as a much darker, scarier version as the leader of the ministry of darkness in 99

    Papa Shango in Undertaker Ministry of Darkness in 1999 with the Brood would have been epic.

    How can you not like this man? So nice, candid, he's not bitter, doesn't hate on anyone, takes responsibility. Papa Shango was a great character and a believable threat to Warrior. Loved that fued, and as a kid I was worried for Warrior because of the voodoo spells.

      He didn’t really have much to share, so he probably got cut for time. He worked a short angle with him, never took it anywhere big. Workaday stuff. No party stories, no real behind the scenes stuff, no personal connection. Why would they include him?

    • @zachary_attackery
      @zachary_attackery 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@e32b61 why would the include Jim Ross and Jim Cornette who literally met Warrior ONE TIME for a meeting for almost the entire episode?

    • @e32b61
      @e32b61 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zachary_attackery That’s an washer one. Because Vince McMahon refuses to participate in these documentaries, and they need someone to corroborate the “Vince” stories. Jim C. and Jim R. were witnesses to a pivotal events in Jim H’s career; namely, his altercations with Vince McMahon that led to his being fired. They weren’t interviewed because they were great buddies or nemeses of his, they were there as corroborating witnesses.

    It's a little ironic they got along so well considering their philosophies on the business differed so much. Godfather was in it for the wrestling and the fun of being around people like that. Warrior was a loner who saw it entirely as his job. Nothing more. Was purely in it for the money. So it speaks highly of Godfather's charisma and character as a Man that Warrior liked him enough to want to continue to do business with him with no issues whatsoever.

    I actually was fortunate enough to see a house show at the New Haven Coliseum headlined by Papa Shango and the Berzerker vs. The Ultimate Warrior and the Undertaker. Obviously it wasn’t a technical masterpiece, but it featured some of the most over-the-top but believable, colorful, talented, over with the fans talent to ever grace a WWF ring. My memory is a little hazy, as I was ten years old, and this was 30 years ago, but the match began by Taker getting Pearl Harbored (I apologize for using a somewhat, archaic, offensive, outdated, albeit ubiquitous with pro wrestling, term… I just think it’s the most accurate term for describing someone being jumped before the bell in a early 1990’s WWF match, but I digress…) by Shango and the Berzerker before Warrior was even introduced. Then we saw Warrior bolting down the long steep entranceway to the ring…. He was already half way down to the ring before his music began and Fink began announcing. Once Warrior hit the ring, he and Taker proceeded to clean house while Warriors music was still playing. They actually kept his music going for several minutes into the action, since the match hadn't officially started, so we were treated to Warrior and Taker destroying their opponents for several minutes while Warrior’s amazing theme played. Another highlight in the match was Taker performing a double choke slam to both Shango and Nord. While I’ve seen countless live wrestling events, some before, some after, that night in the late summer of 1992 was one of my absolute favorites.
