We discuss the days before the Godfather character when Charles Wright was billed as Papa Shango. During his time in the World Wrestling Federation, Shango would enter a feud against Bret Hart.
WWF Booker Pat Patterson made it no secret that he didn't like the Papa Shango character and thought it would hurt Bret's career. Hart however insisted that the matches continue.
We also talk about the series against Bret's brother-in-law, the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith. And we wouldn't close without asking about former WWF Champ Bob Backlund.

Bret has always praised the godfather and wished the wwf had stuck with the papa shango gimmick he got along with all of the bsk members taker and yokozuna especially he considered his closest friends during his time in wwf/wwe.
Solid gimmick, just need to adjust as time goes on.

in one of the Dark Side of the Ring documentaries on vice, Godfather talked about smoking weed and getting high with Gillberg and Butterbean lmfao. sounded like the most hilarious shit ever
Bret had lots of love working with Papa Shango in 92/93 over the years. Look at the house show and dark match results over those years they worked a lot of times.

Yeah it might be the wrong interview but I think it was the timeline 1992 interview he did with Sean Oliver where Sean brought up the Warrior puking cause of the voodoo and was expecting Bret to bury the whole thing and IIRC Bret did concede that perhaps the puking was a little too much but he said that he thought it was a pretty cool gimmick at the time and something different. Of course he was talking in the eyes of early 90s gimmick heavy WWE but compared to a lot of the other dumb gimmicks they had going on at the time it was kinda cool and different for the audience at the time.
I love the Papa Shango gimmick. Voodoo Man rock. Love the Papa Shango promos.

Im really glad to see that this guy seems fine, happy and in good shape. He seems like a very good guy. I think Papa Shango should have been pushed as a villain a lot more we could of have a great evil champion and a great fued with the Undertaker and Warrior.

I loved Papa Shango. When Undertaker was snatching up Mabel and the Godwin dude for his Ministry of Darkness, turning them into Viscera and Mideon, I was hoping they’d transform the Godfather back to Papa Shango, maybe even with goth/zombie “hoes” 💀

2:31 - Well Saturday Night's Main-event started in 85, 7 years before Papa Shango was created, so I doubt you and Bret were part of the show's first main-event 😂😂. (I think he meant first SNME on Fox, after they left NBC)
Yeah I think that's what he meant. He also said when he was in right to censor he and tatanka had matches with Luger and Bulldog. But Right to Censor wasn't until the attitude era. When he teamed with Tatanka against Luger and Bulldog was when they were part of the Million Dollar stable.
I actually think he meant Raw,,Sat notes Main event on Fox wasn't till the 2000s I believe, Lol,Well at least we know he can get good weed,lol Ya Shango and Godfather were great gimmicks,Even NOD was cool but he didn't do much,Rock Farooq and later Owen Hart were the stars of that group
@@valeriearseneault4266 Saturday nights main event returned in the 2000s, but back in 92 when he was Papa Shango, there were a couple of Saturday nights main events on Fox

I think he meant when Saturday Nights Main Event moved from NBC to Fox

@@undertakerfanz628 It was the Main Event on the SNME reboot on Fox so I'm guessing he meant that, either that or he didn't know about SNME from the 80s and legit thought that was the first one ever but I find that kinda unlikely.
