I bought this rifle in .177 and a nice gun it is. Bought it from Bradford stalker birtley , the gun was over £300, it didn’t come with sling swivels as factory standard, also the finish on the stock just in front of the butt pad looks rubbish with a band where the staining and varnishing seams to have missed, I did bring it to the attention of the person I was dealing with at the time but was informed they didn’t have another gun in to swap the stock with , no offer of a reduction or an offer of changing the stock if they sent for one, so basically I have a gun with a marked stock, great gun though if the service received had been the same quality I would of been a lots happier

I have this gun. I bought 3 last Christmas and joined a local gun club. It impressed me so much I bought the entire range of bsa springers. Plus all the classics meteor mk3 up to the new evo supersport, superstar and the under lever models. I have the tx200hc and HW. So I’m not comparing the lightning to my classic air rifles. Mine is 22cal and repeated will hit a pen dots at 25 yards the tenth as big as a pellet. the accuracy is almost tx200hc this is a fantastic little gun. One of the lads I shoot with can match a pcp at 50 yards. If I hadn’t seen it I wouldn’t believe. And he does it every single time. So I personally give 9 3/4 out of 10 and it feels and looks like it’s more expensive than it is. Just buy one future classic. Just one more thing. We use a pellet for a target at 25 yards. And never takes more than a few shots. Now that’s a decent air rifle

Works great with no drilling or damage and really looks the part.

@Phil Martin You can't put a spring kit in a gas ram air rifle. You would have to replace the gas ram with a spring and piston and I think the trigger would need modifying as well. A problem with the gas rams is they leak and need refilling, you can buy a pump but once the gas ram is beyond repair you have to buy a new one and it's more complicated and expensive than buying and fitting a new spring.

Those BSA models are confusing! By now I think I've found out that there's both a spring piston and a gas ram version, but what's the difference between GRT LIGHTNING SE and GRT LIGHTNING XL SE??? Please let me know...! :)
the XL stands for extra long, the only difference is the XL has a full length barrel shroud. I believe the suppressor length is the same as the standard SE, but the shroud comes down the full length of the barrel. And the ones marked with GRT are gas ram. so theres the SE (standard suppressor) the XL (long suppressor) GRT se (gas ram standard suppressor) and GRT SE XL (gas ram long suppressor). another thing to mention is that the XL (long suppressor) has a 1/2" UNF thread at the end of its suppressor where the standard SE does not. hope this helps apologies for the late comment

Nice review mate. I just went and got me one in 177, like the one you are shooting in the vid. Mine must have been built on a monday tho, because it shoots like a steaming pile of **** 9 different kinds of pellets/brands and it hates them all, JSB exacts, 5 diff kinds of H&N pellets etc. my gun spreads between 10 and 20cm @ 13 meters. (no wind at all) only with the H&N field target trophy, i get 10 pellets inside the black on an airrifle papertarget. in comparison with my zoraki pump airgun/pistol with open sights, i get about 2-3cm "offhand" at the same distance, wierd. also, the trigger is absolutely horrendous, with 5 miles of creep in the 2nd stage. too bad because the rifle is top notch on build quality and looks
Update: OK i tried loosening the "action" from the stock, mounted it back, tightened the screws and added loctite, and after some "fiddeling" it shoots like an ace. insane difference, very pleased with the performance now, so i take back my previous statement, the gun rocks. Cheers
Nice. Yea the trigger is actually one of the worst ones i have ever put my hands on in my entire life. Will investigate if i can polish contact surfaces or something to get it a bit smoother.
havnt taken it apart yet.i was thinking about swapping it with a smoot action trigger from gamo, i dont know if it fit's we'll see,..... probebly dosnt
i need you're opinion. i want one last air rifle before i get my rimfire license , i cant pick between this and the air arms pro sport , what would you suggest ?

A nice rifle without doubt, an I have shot most BSA air rifles over the years, but oh how I wish they would fit a proper barrel setup, instead of the damn pin that has been used since the ark, I honestly cannot think of a current manufacturer of quality air rifles that does not now use a proper cross bolt and shims, come on BSA, don't spoil the ship for a hapneth of tar .

This is a great looking rifle. I brought one based on this review. However it is not accurate and is not suitable for live quarry. Tin cans at 20 yards.
@@Battosai2021 Hi, Yes I'm not new to this. Tried all the top brand pellets. Stripped it and polished internals, changed breach seal and even got a a slightly larger pin for the barrel to correct the play. I even tried polishing the crown to no effect. 9 different kinds of pellets/brands and it hates them all, JSB exacts, 5 diff kinds of H&N pellets etc. my gun spreads between 10 and 20cm @ 13 meters. (no wind at all)
only with the H&N field target trophy, i get 10 pellets inside the black on an airrifle papertarget.
in comparison with my zoraki pump airgun/pistol with open sights, i get about 2-3cm "offhand" at the same distance, wierd.
also, the trigger is absolutely horrendous, with 5 miles of creep in the 2nd stage. too bad because the rifle is top notch on build quality and looks
Update:
OK i tried loosening the "action" from the stock, mounted it back, tightened the screws and added loctite, and after some "fiddeling" it shoots like an ace.
insane difference, very pleased with the performance now, so i take back my previous statement, the gun rocks.
Cheers
yeah worked for me aswell, now i need to find a way to put a diffrent trigger in or "tune" it
Mats VRS#10063 hi , im having accuracy issues with my grt 177 , could you please say how you sorted yours please ? Thanks
Great rifle
What's the power like in the UK spec? And do you happen to know how these hold up in the long term?
Some leave the factory at around 9ftlbs and some at 11.00ftlbs you've got to be lucky to get a decent one not a good one just decent one.
What's the best pellet?
This or hw97k blue laminate?
97....
i need you're opinion. i want one last air rifle before i get my rimfire license , i cant pick between this and the air arms pro sport , what would you suggest ?
Hello, I have a BSA Lightning XL 5.5 carbine. What gas ram would you indicate put in it? Thankful
What pellets do you recommend using for the bsa lightning?
[]][[]][[]][[][[[[
i got a brutal dadco die gas spring i need the steel spring version to convert
What's the average db volume on this rifle?
What would you say was best in this gun .22 or 177?
What are you going to be using it for?
Rabbits and wood pigeons mainly. At about 30 to 35 yards.
Kevin Clarke. . 22 caliber, definitely
@@racknload hi bud what u think of the gas, ram? In England, most think they r crap, think I might get this r HW 95?
I am left handed do you any good left handed air guns
fog360 Bushcraft he is left handed to
And I would highly recommend this gun😊
Have you shot cometa fusion? Compaire to BSA??
Can you turn the music up just a tad more just I can't hear anything else at all.
What does the XL stand for?
Extra long..
@@racknload Can't say I notice any difference in length compared to the to the GRT SE. The BSA website also states they are the exact same length. www.bsaguns.co.uk/air-rifles/gas-ram-technology/GRT-Lightning-XL-SE.aspx
What is the size of the rail because I'm not sure what scope to get for it
Bit concerned, is it Chunky.????
No, not at all, I did not say that!🤣
I Love it, I'm getting one tomorrow from Livens!
I bought one and it wouldn't group at 20bysrds so hack it went it's a very poor gun, and it will shock hell out of any scope with its harsh recoil
Hi RACKNLOAD i cant choose between the airsporter se or the Lightning xl grt plz help
Is there any more recoil in this version over the springer?
+Lander F Slightly less with it being a gas ram....
Now o find it more with a gas ram
How many shots does it take to break in
+Sam Evans 500 should do the trick...
Thanks
hi. what is inside of silencer?
+racknload whats the diference 117 and 22
A nice rifle without doubt, an I have shot most BSA air rifles over the years, but oh how I wish they would fit a proper barrel setup, instead of the damn pin that has been used since the ark, I honestly cannot think of a current manufacturer of quality air rifles that does not now use a proper cross bolt and shims, come on BSA, don't spoil the ship for a hapneth of tar .
Long barrell? La mía,26 cms de largo.
with lots of use on the spring version the bolts will break happend to mine and bsa wont repair without reseat
Which bolts?
Just wondering if this is the best gas ram airgun you can buy
I've tried to test it at gamefairs but its never out on the test bench.
Their are other guns like
Crossman venom
Benjamin np
Gamo grt
Has anybody tried all of these and this BSA just wanted to find out which was best
HW90
Does anybody know if you can buy the GRT SE version with an XL SE Stock?
I want one.
Exellent vídeo! What's the music!? Amazing!
José Tiro Esportivo Cheers bud, it's Dudio.
I found the trigger useless also grub screw holding on silencer was coming loose after several shots .
Mate, just discovered your channel brilliant reviews!!! new sub, couple of quick questions do you know if BSA do a GRT version of the lightning XL tactical and how does it rate versus the Wiehrauch HW97 black line the reason I'm asking is after a long time away from the sport I've decided to get back into it a lot has changed since the days of my old BSA supersport lol!!! thanks for any help you can give keep the reviews coming Im working my way through them all the best
AYNSLEY STOREY Thanks buddy! Love the Blackline! I would imagine they do the tactical one in gas ram but I'd double check with BSA. Break barrel or underlever, that is the question! You would not go wrong with either gun mate...
Thanks for the quick reply mate spot on!! I was leaning towards the Blackline you just confirmed it for me I think the German engineering is worth the extra pennies cheers !!
AYNSLEY STOREY Hey bud, no problem, and enjoy! If you are on facebook then join our group :-)
have seen and read a lot of bad reviews on this gun regarding low power issues sub 10ftlb and returned guns?.-mmm. nice looking gun but yes not why we'd buy one, well not wholly
LFC markeb like all mass produced things, there's always a few bad reviews. I have bought one Lightning XL SE .22 GRT and have got to say that I'm keeping up with the pcp boys and it's a super ratter. Don't use superdomes in it. Jsb exacts or AA
Tried different artillery holds etc etc. I brought a HW97 after this and it shoots like a PCP out of the box with virtually every pellet I put through it so its not me. I may have a Friday afternoon rifle but due to my fettling I cant send it back.
Comfort
But is it chunky
No, it's nor.... 🤣
@@racknload good video though mate I just got one off my mate
I've got the same gun
I think it's "Chunky"
Chunky
Should hit that easy! I can drop arrows into targets that size at that range from my Mathews bow with open sights shooting 69lbs 260ish FPS. Checked this gun out today stock feels nice, I liked the chunk stock.
Chunky!!! ,Chunky!!!! 😂😂😂
Music is terrible Rack! Good review though...
Old video mate, I don't do music in video's anymore....
Not bad gun but better of going for a Weihrauch HW95 loads better made gun, and better trigger and barrel.
Chunky was it. !!!!
Great looking gun
Want one :-)
Yeah, did I mention it was chunky? Lol 😄
