I had the Aspen, definitely preferred the kilt v2. The Aspen was too harsh and had to keep volume and gain too low to work with my rig which I felt limited the pedal from being fully operational within the parameters of my rig. It did not kill my kilt.
i had the Kilt V1 and loved the overall flavor of it, but my biggest problem was even without the low-cut in, it still cut too much low end for my taste. i also found it very brittle on the high end and had to run the tone way down (opposite of what you guys said you found) to get a good tone. for context, i was running into an AC30HW. the Case Study appeals to me for the perceived increase of low end you can get with it.
I actually compared the V1 and the Aspen on my channel. I ended up getting rid of both, but I do think the V1 Kilt is a little more open while the aspen is a lot more focused sounding which some could say is the brittle thing too. Me personally, I think I prefer the V1 over the aspen, and ironically, now the V2 as well. The volume taper is slightly deceptive because the aspen is more gradual vs the kilt is a lot more on the 0-5 range and 5-10 is marginal, but actual volume output, I did not notice the jump in headroom at all on the aspen
"This here is the Aspen Overdrive. You can tell its an Aspen cause of the way it is. Wow!"
Since u been gone!!! Love that jam!

Same feeling, Kilt is still king of the hill!

Bass knob is perfect! You can cut way more with the Aspen if you need too
