  • Phil Watkins shares about the origins and stories from the Prayer & Recovery Circle that has been going strong for over two decades. In 2001, 12 members of Travis Park Church went to San Francisco to attend the Empowerment Journey hosted by Glide UMC to learn more about their extensive programs. From this experience Taylor Boone, Bonnie Terry, Jerry Foster, and Phil Watkins decided they would launch a Wednesday Night Prayer and Recovery Circle. The group first met in the Narthex at the back of the Sanctuary and sometimes in Travis Park on a good weather day. Over the years the group grew, eventually growing to upwards of 100 people prior to the pandemic. This circle is a community where people feel valued, heard, loved, and know that they have a place. All are welcome to come as they are.
The Prayer & Recovery Circle meets every Wednesday at 6pm in the Labyrinth Room of Travis Park Church after Alamo City Street Choir (5pm sharp). After the circle is concluded, they have a meal together. The Prayer & Recovery Circle is led by Phil Watkins and Katherine Paredes.
