Coming from a Miles alumni this is the best I ever heard this song being played by a HBCU. I wish all bands can play at this tone such as FAMU and BCC. This the sound that made me wanted to play an instrument. Now every band is blasting loud, trumpets screaming on every song, drum section over powering the entire band and there aren’t any more wood wind players. Please let’s go back to this tone sound and volume 🤗
Mister PrettyBoi1911 as a band alumni from the SWAC I definitely agree but I say now more than ever it’s a time and place for the CRANKING and screaming trumpets .. pop tunes yeah classics like this keep it simply classy and show bandsmenship with most importantly musicianship ✊🏾🎼
A Thomas we’ve all been in your exact position at one point and one time ✊🏾 it’s up to you to keep our programs alive Young one!! I am from Mississippi so I’m your neighbor I marched SWAC but went to every high school band camp famu had
There will Never be another 100. EXCELLENCE in musicianship at its finest...we've been waiting to FAMU to bounce back and here they are ladies and gentlemen; the Standard
The band sounds so very full...and I am enjoying that I can hear the woodwinds on this song. Sometimes, the woodwinds are drowned in marching bands. Great job piccolos! EWF would be proud to hear all you guys!
I keep listening to this because it’s just SO GOOD. Trombones ON point Woodwinds reppin perfection No drag or confusion from the rhythm section section ❤️ Just absolutely wonderful
Ahhh yes. I was an undergrad the year the Hundred first performed this on the field around 40 years ago. It was a medley that also included "Boogie Wonderland" by the Emotions. ***Joe Bullard voice*** "Often Imitated, Never Duplicated."
This is arranged and sounds so good. The woodwinds are very clear. It shows that every song a band performs does not have to loud and overloaded with brass. Great Job!
I just found this, and is it EXCELLENT. Such a full sound from the entire group, playing a very tight arrangement. I love at 1:58 when it circles back with the opening notes!
Famu ate this song up!!! This is the best I have heard In The Stone played. I would love there to be an #InTheStone challenge where all the HBCU's play this song, or just bands in general.
The person filming the band is right-handed, because they keep showing the right hand side of the band more than the all. IJS. This band sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Here from the 2006 rendition they did where they rushed the tempo up a little bit. It still amazes me how FAMU has got this one so dialed in. Literally one sound.
We learned it from guys of the PHENIX HORNS!! EWF Horn section....they came to our first January Camp....big dudes in furs with gig bags...our arranger was there audio engineer...they broke it down for us and by Sunday afternoon....we where ready to go....they shook all of our hands and left...WHAT A WEEKEND!!
That’s was the best I heard In the Stone played since Drumline lol
Famu was the one that studio played in the stone in drumline lol
Famu was not the band that played in the studio....It was actually the band that was in the movie
@@MARCHING100PAPARAZZI Correct. Southwest Dekalb High School played In the Stone in Drumline.
It was Sarj arrangement in the movie though lol

Great comments. I'm a high school 'band-head' from New Orleans. This sound is 'clean' and not brass-heavy. Best I've heard as well.

Coming from a former sonic boomer, this sounds amazing. Clean, balanced and very articulate. 👍👍

BETWEEN THEIR GOSPEL CHOIR AND THEIR MARCHING BAND THERE ARE SOME SUPREMELY TALENTED PEOPLE AT FAMU.
Lord have mercy, I was was captivated at tone, articulation, clean, and clear sound. Why can't all bands be like this? This is musicianship.
There will Never be another 100. EXCELLENCE in musicianship at its finest...we've been waiting to FAMU to bounce back and here they are ladies and gentlemen; the Standard
Wen i say FAMU is the only band that can play "any" song & make it sound like the actual recording. ......& that's coming from a BOOM fan👍👏
Weeping because I love this song so much! Excellent job FAMU! 🙌
This is so fire! 9 days in and they sound like that! Great year to be in that number!
I feel sorry for people who didn’t attend an HBCU.
Me too!
Like me...I am sure I missed a great experience and of course the band
Yes indeed
I sincerely regret not working harder in school to have better grades to attend one
No worries over here. That’s what TH-cam is for 😊
This band has the "BEST SOUND" and skilled musicians. The best in all country‼️💚🧡💚
From a Marching 101 Alumni F'91.... The 100 is well on it's way back!

I know Dr. Foster would be proud!!
..and this year is his centennial.
This takes me back to my years in high school
A longer version from the movie "drumline". You all nailed it! The last 8-10 measures of the song has a great climax.
The arranger from Famu did the arrangement in Drumline
That was amazing. Hope to see yall at the Honda botb
Now that right there sounded Soooo Smooth !!!!!
