I have fond memories of going to Ireland via Holyhead and catching the train at Longport, I recall that the platform was crowded, dad carrying the cases and mum fussing over us excited children....but of course I'm talking about 1946 when I was 10 years old. No footbridge at Longport then just barriers. Later I worked at Billington and Newtons brass foundry which was just 100 yards from Longport Station. Happy memories. Thanks for the video.

Etruria did have some passenger increases for the National Garden Festival that was close by during 1986, but then tailed off once that closed. An absolute faff for any wheelchair user passengers to switch between one side of the station and another too, surely a ramped bridge or underpass would make more sense?
Longport is also the closest station to Port Vale's football ground so occasionally gets some busier use on a match day.

Didn't knew about the National Garden Festival and it is a faff about wheelchair users, it's the same at Rugeley Town but that is a much longer walk. Need to visit Longport on a Port Vale match day to see if it busier than usual. Thanks zawtowers

4:24 when did I ever knew LNWR trains would stop here?

It's explained later on in the video but since EMR only serving the station with a 2 hourly service, LNWR stepped in to add additionally at Longport to keep it a hourly calling point

Very interesting video. :) I've been through Longport a few times including ones where I've fallen asleep on class 156's travelling between Crewe and Derby hence why I've decided to nickname them sleepy units. XD Also shame about the automated announcements not working for Longport, the announcements should wait until you're livestreaming before they break haha. XD

So you are avoiding using East Midlands Railway to get to Longport but you are using Northern, London Northwestern Railway, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry. Or does CrossCountry not stop at Longport. Interesting stuff.
And yes Avanti West Coast Class 390 and Class 221 trains pass through Longport. Should know that because the platforms are too short for the Class 390s and Class 221s to stop at Longport. And yes the concrete footbridge needs replacing with a new footbridge with lifts.

The whole idea was to used Northern but with London Northwestern Railway was a addition to add in the video, the idea wasn’t to avoid EMR, it was to the quirky services.
There no point for Avanti and CrossCountry to stop at Longport, however if you watch Ian’s video, you can find out what happen to the footbridge in his vlog th-cam.com/video/QSBv7hCwrME/w-d-xo.html
