Ah, I had enough of these crazy ideas myself.
For example, I thought of a 3D printer when I was about 8 years old, I think. But this one would be totally environmentally friendly. It would be powered entirely by sunlight, converting the light into energy, which would be split into three individual streams, getting fed in three "printer guns" that are pointed at a "stage", with each of the printer guns being positioned at a different angle. Then you basically placed an image of what you want printed on a photocopier, scan it in, and the apparatus would convert the 2D image into a 3D file, and then the printer guns would shoot a laser-like energy beam on the stage, where all three beams would hit a single spot, printing the stuff you desire.
Basically, it would turn light into energy into mass, and if needed, this could work the opposite direction as well, turning things you printed and that broke back into energy that then could be reused.
Apart from how futuristic that is, considering I was just a kid that heard 3D printing is something that can be done, but had no idea how it worked (and having no clue about electronics), looking back, I'm surprised how "accurate" the young me was on how a 3D printer worked.
And if anyone is still reading this and wondering, I came up with this because I wanted specific Lego figures, but couldn't afford spending money on the whole Set in which they were included.
I also "invented" Anti-Gravity wrist-glove-thingies, that looked somewhat like Iron Mans palm-repulsors, with articulated "finger-antennas" to stabilize the Anti-Gravity beam, that should help people by the construction of buildings.
And a robot that would project a hologram of oneself around it that could be operated remotely. That way, you could send that robot to school, and attend school from home, not missing any lessons.

It is very possible that the drawings of the sea horses being ridden in the ocean. He could have been trying to draw the Hippocampus. This was from the Greek Mythology and were described as very pretty or beautiful sea horses. I guess the best representation of the Hippocampus would be in the movie, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. Which is a really great book series and a decent movie.

I read a chapter in my school which was based on how the future would loook like.
(The fun they had)
This chapter was based on how the future school would look like. Children would have to study in their house with a robot as their teacher. They've never seen books and it's a story about two kids who somehow found a book which was very weird to them . As it was not moving as it was supposed to on a screen. And even that book was based on school so they were amazed as how everyone went to a building to study.
Actually this now became reality. Like in pandemic how students through out the world studied via online classes.
@Tigers and Tacos Isaac Asimov. He and Ray Bradbury were great sci-fi authors and had surprisingly accurate predictions of future tech. I teach English and often try to slip some cool sci-fi into the curriculum.

Ahh these are fabulous! All these technology predictions and in the early 1980s we still had a rented black and white telly. When we got an automatic washing machine in 1987 instead of the awful heavy twin tub my poor mum had to drag out each time to use, my mother and I sat on the kitchen floor with a cuppa and watched the clothes going zipping around inside. I can still remember how happy she was. Some technology is frivolous, some life changing. I miss her ❤️
I was born in 87, and understanding how tech lulls then jumps. Its sometimes fun talking to people 20 or so years older than me, they have showed me how to live off the land and i have shown them how to keep up with the times
I was born in 89 and fully incompetent of everything going around the world. It was in 2004 I discovered internet was a thing. While everyone at school boasted over the internet, I hated the word, didn't understand a word. And got angry when people said "YOU DONT HAVE INTERNET?!" And I yelled back I was too dumb to understand!
The next year, school enforced internet, and my life was screwed since.
I remember my dad got my mom a "portable" dishwasher for Xmas one year, probably late eighties, early early nineties. Portable in the sense that it had a retractable hose that hooked to the kitchen sink, and wheels so you could roll it around lol. She was so excited. She would look for reasons to run it lol. Now, if I bought my wife a dishwasher for Christmas. I'd have to live in the thing. After I had it surgically removed from my hind end that is. How times and technology change people, and attitudes. Love you mom, Miss you every day....

There are infact personal "Jet-Pack" devices being tested right now. I've seen several videos on it over this last year. So the one prediction from the 1950s was correct. Predicting "Super" or Flight abilities.
The Royal Marines assisted by the Royal Navy have been testing jet suits used for ship to ship boarding for a while now .

As a youngster in the sixties, I also envisioned waterproof homes. You could just shut a room, turn on the water and clean the room. I'm not sure what I thought we'd do with the TV or other electric items. I guess they'd be self-contained and self-washing. I guess these were mostly dreams of a kid tired of household chores.

I'm disabled and after I was in my car accident I was taught a lot of features on my computer that would help me do things. I bet most people are using a mouse, I have a camera watching where I look and moving the mouse for me. I still use the mouse, but the head tracking thing is awesome!
What if someone hacks the camera thing and watches u without knowing? 😢😖 well it’s very unlikely but ppl these days are upgrading and upgrading tech, it might be possible. That’s why I always block any cameras in my direction. That camera u have is amazing and it is probably amazing but that doesn’t mean it’s unhackable. If it assists you I recommend u keep using it tho.

I once watched a Lego movie in 4D. They had it in 3D and also had bubble machines to make it feel even more realistic.
I was looking for a comment about this, because 4d movies do exist, and are quite common in the uk depending on the movie
3:53 there actually is. There’s a band called Compressorhead that is made out of robots. While not an “army”, machines CAN play music.
Actually, automated instruments including player pianos and band organs were in existence in 1899. The programming was done by holes in paper (typically a roll but sometimes folded sheets in the form of a "book". The control system was pneumatic, where the holes would allow air (or vacuum) to enter a passage which, through proper valves and actuator (typically a bellows) , would perform an action (e.g. strike a key or allow air to an organ pipe).
In 1910 a self-playing violin with piano accompaniment was developed that was electrically driven, the paper roll allowed electrical contact to be made / or broken actuating solenoids tp perform the various actions.
So, in a way, the first recorded music was actually digital.
Also, in 1899 both the telephone and telegraph were in existence (commercial telephone systems were still in their infancy)so electronic communications were known.

I love vintage videos of what was expected to be happening in the "future " . There was one invention that was expected to happen that I liked, it was a computer that had the dietary information of everyone in the house and it would offer food options customized to each person, then would make it. Even if you were craving something it would find something modeled to your needs that would satisfy your craving. I would love to see that happen complete with the making of the food.

There is a science fiction story that's similar to that. A household robot was programmed to provide diets for each family member (they were all overweight) that would cause them to lose weight. Unfortunately, there was a glitch in its program that, long after the family members had reach their weight-loss goals, caused it to keep providing lower and lower caloric content meals, slowing starving them to death. The robot had also cut off all communication and access to the outside world.
In contrast to the VR, it will be obsolete maybe in the next 15 or 25 years. VR will be replaced by Full Dive, a virtual fully immersed world, where Matrix and Sword Art Online will be a truth from the past. Elon musk is still developing it. The device is named Neurolink/NerveGear.

I remember that office buildings, including hospitals, used pneumatic mailing to send documents back during the 1950s. So that's actually retro.
I remember the hospital I used to go to as a child (late '70's early '80's) used them.
Pneumatic tubes are actually very old technology and would have been well known to the writer of that 1900 article. At the time they would have been used to transport important documents around office buildings and even between them. However the prediction here was the extension of their use to private dwellings, which of course never happened.
My US Navy ship in the late 1970s/early 1980s had these tubes (called "bunny tubes") to send written messages between bridge, radio room and other places. A lot quicker than sending a runner, especially if we were at General Quarters. 😊
Weather control has been possible for decades. For instance the Soviets pumped silver iodide into the atmosphere to create rain clouds to spare them from the massive radiation clouds caused by the Chernobyl Meltdown.

What if in the future (~2100,) you had entire VR suits, a cure for cancer, instead of injections with needles, you could just send it straight to the muscle or with other, better alternatives, you could teleport signals, and… cats actually had nine lives. Sorry I’m definitely a cat lover (I’m obsessed) and had to put that in there.
I love my VR as a now bedridden MS sufferer I use it to see the world, visit museums and see A myriad wonderful thing that I could never otherwise see . I would wish them to consider us more in programming. As with floor level verses bed level. Distances moving forward or back etc. and to stop with everyone thinking everything needs 360 I can’t see behind me in bed and how often do people really twirl around constantly while sight seeing or playing a simple game. Keep it front focused if want to see behind me I’ll simply take the 5 to 10 minutes to expend the little energy I have twist myself like a pretzel and try not to cry as not to make vision more blurry. VR could be huge in hospitals, rehabs, and the homes of the trapped.

I just wanted to point out that the “Roomba” bit is inaccurate. The same company that makes Roomba (iRobot), also makes the “Braava Jet”, which is (basically) the mop version of the Roomba. Also, one of my coworkers told me the other day that he has a machine manufactured by Xiaomi that can mop and vacuum at the same time.

Back in the 90's, I never thought of owning a beeper coz I find it silly back then lining up a phone booth telling the operator your personal messages. I told my friends someday I will have a cellphone that I can directly text and send messages to anyone and it will also have tv and radio.
I thoroughly enjoy the longer videos, or should I say episodes. Don’t get me wrong, all your videos are interesting and informative, but they have only gotten better with length.

So back in 2016, I was implanted with something that over the period of the last few years has almost completely stopped me from having seizures. I would explain how this technology works, but that will take too much time. I’ve also heard that the same type of technology can under certain circumstances be used to treat disorders like bipolar and depression. So I predict by the year 2100 that technological implants like this will take the place of medication to treat the neurological components of mental illness. Maybe even before then.

Even as a kid in the 90s the thought of having live video calls seemed like science fiction. Never imagined in the near future that and legal cannabis would actually be a reality.
The basic technology for this has been around since the 1960s but one of the main reasons it didn't develop as quickly as it might have done is that people simply felt uncomfortable making a phone call knowing their face was being displayed at the same time. Of course this mindset has largely disapeared now with e the advent of video calling, Zoom, Teams etc but it took a long time.
The first clip wasn’t wrong, we don’t have one kid pumping electricity into classmates head but we definitely have one person pumping thoughts via social media into their peers brains.

These are no so much predictions as the ideas themselves being posited. It’s often artists who first imagine the future. Scientists take them up and do the heavy lifting.
Many Star Trek ideas are coming to pass. Communicators predicted cellphones. Food replicators are coming online as 3D Printing being developed for food, initially for the space program. Teleportation, cloaking technology, FTL travel are all being actively worked on. The peaceful coexistence of mankind..... THAT will take far longer, maybe impossible. 😮

You should read Fahrenheight 451, written in the 50s and predicts the future, It talks about air pods, and calls them seashells. (Its mostly about people losing personality, and books being destroyed with fire)

They made a movie back in the 80's about machines like that roomba with the knife. It was called "Chopping Mall" where shopping cost you an arm and a leg. Trailer even had a machine rolliing around the mall carrying a severed limb. I think it was an arm, but i could be wrong. It's been a few years.

Residential tower blocks in the UK were first planned after WW2 the first one was completed in 1951 and was designed by Frederick Gibbard , if you visit England now you can see them for yourself they're mostly in inner city areas . Later housing blocks are considerably shorter in height but are bigger lengthwise .

Back in the 60s my father had a school project in his home town of Kempten im Allgäu (Allgäu is a region in Bavaria, relatively rural if compared to Munich) in which he and his class mats had to imagine the year 2000. In my father's vision we should have:
- 3D TV with five TV stations (back in the 60s in Germany (west) there was just two TV stations).
- Cars powered by Uranium pills we insert like the chips in an autoscooter.
- A unified democratic and free Europe.
- A fully developed space programm with some bases on the moon.
- My father working for a large company and having a smaller penthouse with his family. (In actuall year 2000 my father worked in the Federal Army of Germany as a civilian administrator and we actually had a two story apartment in the house his own father bought right after WW-II in Munich, so, that's not that far off).
I myself have the feeling that we ...:
- could have the first Mars bases built by SpaceX.
- Much better AIs
- A much better recycling technology helping us to reduce the eccologically footprint in the world.
- Perhaps some earlier useable volumetric display projections.
And all such things within the next 100 years

The series Star Trek was done in the 60's, but it was supposed to be the 1990's where they thought space travel would be a common thing. It also brought us tablets, force fields and numerous others futuristic gadgets that is now used today.
I had to wait half a century for VR...and had to make do with holographic tech and stickers from Kellogs cornflakes! The 70's were fun times for new tech advances..😊
