    Something that added to the incredibly alien effect of the film mix (and isn't really possible to reproduce here) is that Zimmer seems (to me, at least, as a production layman) to have chopped up the vocal track to make it more staccato and layered certain sections to emphasise them

    • @RenVasTerul
      @RenVasTerul  2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Yeeaaaa! Man I was trying to figure out this effect for so long! I actually really wanted to do something like that, but I just had no idea how to approach it really. And yes, this was a truly outstanding mixing approach on behalf of Zimmer. Truly alien vibes!

    • @Deathrape2001
      @Deathrape2001 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zimmer says he chopped it up & put 'too much compression', so maybe 'Ren Vas' can do the same & make an album of 'Dune-ish' / demonic throat singing material =) Might also try distortion? But not krappy 'pedal' or 'digital' distortion, but quality stuff 2 flavor just a bit, like good tube amp distortion =D Not all the time, just in parts. Details...
      th-cam.com/video/93A1ryc-WW0/w-d-xo.html
      Also pitch shifting & 'harmonizing' would B cool, or maybe 'vocoding' of the throat singing? So many possibilities 4 'scary sounds' ~;-D

    • @snogger6
      @snogger6 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      He mentioned it was a massive amount of compression on the voice, and likely a ton of EQ in the bass (wouldn't be surprised if the bass frequencies had their own EQ settings) and then he also separated the syllables so they'd hit the compressor and you get that staccato, almost percussive, otherworldly effect.
      And your performance is AWESOME. Well done!!

    But really, you need to make a 10min loop of it. Then an hour loop of it. (Yes, I know about the Loop option, I was making a point 😃)
    I would play this to sleep. I would set this as my alarm. If I got mad at work, I would start this on my phone, leave it on the desk, and walk out - but then, y'know, wait minute and go back in to get my phone before walking out again.
    Your skill is *fantastic*!
    I was serious about a longer loop, PLEASE! Any one else agree?

    Much to our parent’s dismay, a Navaho Indian (Native American) taught my brother and I how to throat-sing when we were 8 and 9 years old (early-1970s).
    It’s easier than people think, and you can get some REALLY STRANGE EFFECTS if you know how to open your nasal passages during certain notes and syllables.

      Bro, mongolian throat singing became a niche interest and then a big meme years before this came out. If anything, the fact people associate this with mongolian throat singing is because the community is so active and mongolian throat singing is mildly popular within internet culture. But its even more popular with people who are interested in far east cultures and histories.

    The movie's Sardaukar throat singing chant is something that would fit well into the legions of the bloodthristy Daevite Empire from the SCP Mythos that worshipped and zealotrally follows the will the Scarlet King Khahrahk.
    The singing reminds me of a combination of norse and mongolian throat singing which in the SCP Mythos a fragment of the Daevite Empire that was stationed on Earth did take over large portions of mongolia.
    Edit: I completely enjoy the idea of the Daevite Empire and in my head canon believe they are still out there but the true Empire is far larger and far more powerful then one may imagine. After all a Empire that has been around since the days of the mythos's Ancient Humanity and went to multiple wars with them for a long time maybe far greater then what was depicted. Still raging a cosmic war even after the fall of the order of Ancinet Humanity and Adam El Asem was complete.
    *"Like a unending flood that washes and consumes the small pebbles of stone of the ground, amies shall be shattered and dimensions shall be torn asundered by the mighty legions who serve our creator and father, Khahrahk the Scarlet King who breaks the will of lesser deities grinding them to scarlet dust. We are the Daevites a neverending, and always enduring Empire that never sleeps, the true children of the Scarlet King and nothing may stop the Scarlet crusade and the Dark Below's advances where all shall be remade anew. Not the siblings Yaldabaoth and her abominations and faithless pretenders or Mekhane and his mekhanite cowards,, not the order of failure Rakmou Leusan, and certainly not the remnants of Adam's seed who once defiled us but fell."*
