I was running a 14 on the front with 48 on the rear was good for the dirt but not so good on the hyway, so I thought I ride on the street more then the dirt so went back to 15/48 , I have dirt bikes at home I can take out if I want to dirt ride but really the XR can handle the dirt with stock gearing just need to know how to ride, what a perfect bike

Kk bike delivered to PNW from Europe, had my sprocket in a week. Most spline coverage, outstanding quality. Top grade hardware. Installed with moly grease on shaft. Installation was simple and bulletproof. Accept no substitute, buy the superpinion.

'23 w 14/48... Only way to go for switchbacks and boulders. I don't want to jump up the hill but mountain goat up with total control and balance. Might go 13/48 and ride it in Trials... Ha .

Thanks for the vid man , Love my xr650L ride safe . I just ordered 14 :) .Had it in mind to do , you pushed me over the edge :) hahah , Now to set my sag , or maybe a lowering link , even at 6' I tippy toe and have to lean to one side at stop lights . Its not cool when severe trail rides the grounds not even lol.

You might want to consider running a 47 tooth back sprocket from sunstar. I also have been running 14 and 15 front counter shaft sprockets with this setup without having to change the chain length. Also a lot of people run a bigger tire in the rear for instance a 130 versus the stock 120 which also changes the gear ratio.

    • @ronmower3694

a 130 vs a 120 is the width, not how tall it is. only the 80/90/ would do that so a 120/80/19 would be shortr than a 120/90/19. not being a smart ass,my brother

This might be a little long winded, but hopefully not confusing. A lot of people go with lower gearing but never talk about performance outside of the trails. I recently watched a video of a guy touring the country on a DR650 fitted with a 14t front. He says that it makes it a faster bike. Not top speed, but throughout the rev range, in every gear. The theory being that the torque increase applies in every gear, not just first on single track. So I’m wondering if this is something you have found, or have you not focused on that part. I put a 16t on my street bike, and while people focus on highway performance and lower revs in top speed, I found that it seemed to increase the top speed of every gear, making it more useable on some city streets. Less shifting. Just curious to see what you think, if it applies the other way as well.

I find the bike more useable through its entire speed range now.

use Superpinion to prevent damage to your driveshaft, simply the best.

@@jerseyshoreguitargarage We thank you but we don't want to be compared to ignoble copies. Ours is a product that we created with a lot of effort and sacrifice, we patented it, it is made in Italy and has nothing in common with a terrible Chinese copy. it would be like comparing a Louis Vuitton bag to a copy. It might be well made but it's still just an illegal copy.

This IS my intention… first of all it is bold of you to advertise your sprocket on my TH-cam video. I should just delete this comment thread.
Secondly it sounds like you’re scared to have your product compared to all the others. I intend to purchase them all at full price and do an honest comparison.

Whatever gearing you run, get the PBI countershaft sprocket as it is wider and will protect your countershaft splines from damage, this is a known issue on the 650L.

Is 15/45 too tall or do you just need more low to mid range power to make it perfect?
If 14/45 was perfect as you said why did you load the bike up on the trailer to take it home?
Really on the power that you currently have a 14/48 might be your perfect compromise.
I always like to first free up and or to a reasonable & economic point make more power before sorting out gearing. Displacement is fine because you have plenty of torque. While 40 hp is sufficient 60 like they got out of the xr650r would be lots of fun without apparently going off the envelope in terms of reliability.
I don’t know what you can get cost effectively but I think I would research that before settling on gears & chain. 🎯🤷‍♂️

This is a prime example of trying to make an XR-L into something it’s not. It’s not a race bike. It doesn’t need 60hp. I believe this ratio is perfect for ME because it FEELS right. I trailered to the trails because I live an hour and a half from them… don’t be judgy.

I've been looking at bikes & liked the 500x but then I saw this one.....lol, it seems the manufacture put a gear that could end up
stripping the splines? What a nightmare if it happens to you & it would if I'd bought it... but not now b/c I know about it. So you
can do 90 or cruise at 70mph w/o any problems? Living where I do, using the highway is a must & it's 75mph ruling out most
smaller bikes. I could tool along at 60 but that's dangerous & it's also a danger running at 75 w/o having in more power that'll
get you out of trouble. Yeah, I'm all caught up in what I need based on the intent for the bike. Thanks for your video. peace

I can top out at 90, cruise at 70, and ride single track next to KTMs. The XR650L is a whole ass motorcycle that identifies as a dirt bike.
